What Is Correct Idle For An Ls 400

Recommended Posts

The tutorial is for the 1990-1994 models but the 95 on is very similar.

One thing I did notice was that in one of the picture the TPS has been removed, there is no need to do this, just be careful not to get the cleaning fluid in it.

If you do remove the TPS it will need setting up again but if I remember correctly there is also a tutorial for doing that on the same site.

Also a screwdriver to remove heavy carbon deposits may be a little OTT, a shaped lollypop stick will do the job without marking and a toothbrush is good for added scrubbing.

Also the hoses and clips under the TB are a little awkward as mentioned but make sure they are all refitted correctly and tightly.

Finally make sure you mark the positions of the throttle cables and particularly the kickdown cable with tipex or similar as misadjustment of the kickdown cable causes some very weird gear shifts! ( from experience)

I had a similar problem and cleaning the throttle body cleared it right up.

Its really really easy to do with basic tools and I agree no need for a screw driver scraper I used a roughed up end of bamboo cane and a tooth brush.

Just take your time and don't rush, 2 hours max.
