Tyres

When i bought my is300 the fella had just had new 225 budget tyres fitted, made by Westlake (who?)

Reckoned the 4 cost him £250 fitted and only bought them as he was selling the car.

They look pretty good and seem fine in the dry but do give a bit of road noise. Bad thing is that going around country lanes when wet with leaves etc on the road, the rear end slides all over the place around bends. I'm thinking that this this must be due to these cheap tyres, does anyone else use budget tyres and have this problem? Really dont fancy chucking out £500ish on a decent set..

Hi the only contact between you car and the road is your tyres, and to be honest I am surprised how many people seems to opt for budget tyres(not my cup of tea not that i am rolling in money). However you dont have to buy top of the range ones as you can go for middle of the range and still get something decent for less than a £100 a tyre or thereabouts. You can try Falkens,Hanook, firestone etc

To be honest, if i was to change them would go for Bridgestones as had them on the is200 and never had a problem, although they did wear pretty quickly.

First time had a car with budget tyres and can see why the things are so cheap, guess thats why they call them "ditch finders".

At least now all new tyres have different performance stickers on them so one can see beyond looks alone.

Said in another thread, I was a little dubious of the Hankook (V12 Evo) tyres that came with my IS, but did like the fact they were all virtually brand new. But, they are awesome tyres! More grip than you can shake a stick at; it's even hard to get them to unstick when trying! Only slide I've had in the wet was when I turned the TRC off, and side stepped the clutch in 2nd at about 4k rpm, on a roundabout - LOL. Not the quietist tyres ever, but nowhere near the noisiest either. Can't complain for £75 a corner either!
