Assuming it was purchased from dealer, take it back. He probably retains responsibility if this is an actual fault although it is an old car.

Difficult to follow this with so little punctuation but I think he admits that you have a three month warranty and that you are by Post 1 only two weeks into it. The cash adjustment is not relevant - your first option should be to go to the Trading Standards Department of your local authority. It may well be that you have to get someone else to repair it and then sue in the Small Claims Court.

Thanks for the advice,i'll be speaking to trading standards tommorrow,i just think after 2 weeks the dealer should be willing to do somthing not palm it off onto the warranty company but hayhoe it will get repaired one way or the other, really want to keep the lexus other than the humming it's great nice and smooth and comfortable. sorry about the punctuation lol i hope this was better, thanks again

It might be worth considering taking it to a Lexus dealer just for them to take a quick look at it. They may be able to give you some indication as to what is wrong without charge. Depending on who you are dealing with Lexis dealers can be very accomodating and you may find that your problem is easy and cheap to fix.

If it is not, it may be useful to have the information / diagnostic from the Lexus dealer to take to the garage who sold you the car, or to the Trading Standards.

If you have a 3 month warranty and only have had the car two weeks, surely things are in your favour.

P.S. - The threat of going to Trading Standards or of writing to the specialised press such as Top Gear, What Car, Auto Express etc "for advice" can often lead awkward dealers and garages to reconsider their way of thinking!

Just purchased RX400h '57 and have experienced the same sound. I mentioned it to Lexus service guy, and he tells me that it is normal due to the CVT at lower speeds, but no problem at higher speeds.

thanks to all for your comments, picked the car up from my local garage and he has taken it to the main dealer as he couldn't find where the noise was coming from,he checked all oil levels and they were fine so off he went.i now have the car back with the noise even louder now (not my local garages fault) the diagnosis from lexus now is the bearings between gears 1,2 and 3 are worn and need replacing so looks like an expensive job to me price in the region of £2500 for a rebuild so not a happy bunny with the dealer who sold me the car now going to trading standards if i dont get any help there it's off to my solicitor i think

thanks for all your coments again regards chris
