Home Made 30 Mph Signs

I don't know if this is just local or more nationwide but people around here have begun putting up the small 30 MPH repeater signs on a little pole and then sticking them in their gardens.

I suppose there are pros and cons to doing this but to me it is yet another distraction to motorists and the job of speed limits is down to the local authority and the implementation of said limits the responsibility of the police and I don't need a sign in someones garden as an extra reminder.

I have held a full driving licence for over 33 years and never had a penalty point on it, this may be due to a combination of luck and careful driving but nevertheless it's clean without these reminders and I drive commercially all over the UK.

So what do other members think of these signs?

I think they are a waste of time, same as the LED signs at the side of the road. There's one at the bottom of a steep mile long hill near us. Nothing until you are meters from it then BANG lit up like a christmas tree....SLOW DOWN...I;ve seen cars jam brakes on like an emergency stop, now that's unsafe to following traffic to me. Not to mention how distracting the sign is.
