Audio / Nav Frustration

Recommended Posts

I cannot browse media, the button doesn't even show up.

iOS 8.1 didn't fix it. :(

If you mean when using Bluetooth then neither can I, only when connected by cable can I browse. I never have been and just thought was a Bluetooth limitation.

Fun morning in the wind and rain. Toys were out the pram big style, big red cross through the phone after 1st call. After 5 miles of swearing and mutterings I stopped for a coffee and a bacon roll and decided I wasn't moving till I sussed it.

So I removed the pairing and phone and started again. 5 straight calls to voicemail all perfect, stopped and started car 5 times and connected every time. Was that all it was? So I set off again, switched my Mobile Hotspot back on (it was off during this break) and then dialed voicemail. 1st time ok, 2nd time no connection and red line through phone !! cue a few more expletives.

Then I suddenly twigged, MOBILE HOTSPOT. Quickly disabled it (sorry Officer) and low and behold the red line went instantly and the phone connected. Proceeded to make multiple calls and my boss also rang me and all perfect, no drops, red lines or anything.

So hopefully looks like Bluetooth and wifi to the phone at the same time was causing it.

No traffic though of course which was annoying as the A1 was shut, but I switched it over to RDS and nothing came through on that either.

Will see if I can get connected services to work over Bluetooth but not managed it so far. May end up investing in a mifi dongle and just leave it in the car.

So hopefully sanity on the way to some sort of parity :hohoho:

As a test at lunchtime I forced it to access the hotspot through Bluetooth only and although I had to sit for ages it eventually popped up traffic from internet activated and I got traffic data. However again I then tried to make a call and all sorts of problems again.

Turned hotspot off again and phone was instantly OK.

Enough is enough, don't know if it is the Iphone, the Vodafone SIM or the car, so just for my sanity I've ordered a 2nd hand 3G mifi from fleabay. I have a 30 day sim for data from 3 which I've never used so will give that a blast and keep the phone for calling and the mifi for traffic. It's a shame its going to cost me extra but its a drop in the ocean for traffic loveliness :driving:

I do yes. It was working for me with an Iphone 4S on iOS 7 using Bluetooth. Iphone 6 with iOS 8 doesn't work.

Hey DJP, do you simply leave HotSpot turned on on your Iphone and the car picks it up when you start it? Or do you have a particular sequence you do to get Hot Spot connected? Mine only connects once in a blue moon and then only after much tinkering turning things off and on.

Hi Bridgy, if you have an Iphone to get mine on I had to toggle the hotspot on and off and then leave the phone on that screen until the car connected. If I left Hotspot running all the time in my pocket it would never connect.

However as I said above I'm leaving it off now and swapping to a separate mifi device, was too much of a black art for me.

I only turn the hotspot on when I'm going on a journey where the internet traffic might be useful, or if I want to download a memory point from the portal. It connects every time (so far!!) and is fine. I'm on version D and don't intend updating.

BB - my company phone is BT Mobile via Vodafone and the network doesn't allow simultaneous phone call and data connection, it will turn off data if you are on the phone. Previous contract was with O2 and it didn't do this. When we asked BT about the behaviour they said it was a Vodafone network policy, to preserve signal for phone calls. Don't know if this is true, but this is maybe the root of the issue.

My car/phone (android) combination works best with phone connected via Bluetooth for calls and wifi hotspot on and connected for everything else. It seems much happier and I get much less aggro this way than if I try and share the Bluetooth connection for data. Then I get all manor of weird issues with the phone and the car.

Colin, correction from me. I do and have had the browse button when connected via Bluetooth if I'm listening to apple sourced music. I subscribe to Deezer and can listen via Bluetooth but can't browse.

I am on Iphone 6 with latest software and it's fine.

Well, I played around with Hotspot at lunchtime. Re-pair my Iphone 6+ 8.1 with the car (Version E). Turned on the hotspot and restarted the car. Everything worked, phone and audio player connected then wifi connected to hotspot. Turned off the car and waited for phone to show that wifi connection to car was lost started the car again. Phone and audio player connected, no wifi :( I give up!! Surely I don't have to keep re-pairing the phone every time I want a hotspot connection!! This is so poor for an expensive luxury hi-tech car.

Sometimes it takes a few minutes for the car to connect to the phone wifi hotspot in mine. Sometimes it is very quick.

Did you save all the wifi password and settings etc in the settings page in the car??

Yup, saved and have the option to reconnect auto to favourite connections. When I go to setup/wifi on the car and show available networks, it shows a number of networks but my phones hotspot ain't one of em!! Turning the hotspot off and on again doesn't seem to help. Weird!!

Iphone only tends to show it's wifi when you are on the hotspot page. If you look when you turn it on there it says Hotspot is says now discover-able.

This was the only way I could get into a system where it loaded every time. So I basically toggled it on and off every time I started the car with the Iphone then left on the Personal Hotspot screen.

One other slight issue I've noticed with Ver "F". I can no longer delete memory points from the NAV. Not sure if this happened before, but they just will not delete now.

2 days driving with supposed RDS traffic and it never showed any? It still had details of the roadworks but never any traffic issues?

Hopefully the mifi arrives today so can fire internet traffic back up.
