I haven't seen another new shape GS on the road in the North East since I had my first test drive last April. I did see a new GS250 parked up at the White Swan hotel in Alnwick a few months back. I do see the occasional old shape GS. RX's are common, CT's fairly common and IS's less so - I've never seen a new shape IS outside the dealers

Scary. I've noticed that you can pick up some of them now, with low miles, 12-18 months old, for much less than £25k. That is stonking value for money compared to an IS, or dare I say it, even an LS £ for £

I knew that they would hit a cliff early on - but in the long run privateers will keep a heady demand, or so I hope, else mine will be worth £10k in a year or 2…. :-(

Hi Silver Arrow, we have spoken before when I asked you some questions about your GS 250 you may recall, as I was considering my options. I have to say that I am very disappointed with Lexus, who seem to have used the 2.5 engine as a stop gap to bring the vehicle onto sale, and then drop it for the new 300H. I have seen the values of the GS 250 plummet, and as you quite rightly say what value a 2 year old model. When my 2007 Gs 300 SEL got to six years old, I really wanted a new Gs, but, as it turns out, the dealers were not prepared to deal on a new vehicle with sunroof media etc. I have to say, as things now stand, I am pretty glad they didn't..

I had the problems with the Xmas tree light coming on in Aug 2012..VSC, ABS, Traction control etc, and on the second occasion took it to dealer for analysis. Diagnosis, 2 x oxygen sensor, 1x ECU, cost £2500, reduced as goodwill, to £1200! Through the pages of this excellent site, and advice given, problem solved via a new £25 petrol cap. Have to say that I lost confidence in dealer after that, and changed marque, but must admit I do seriously miss my GS, love the lexus cars, smooth quiet power, and would certainly love another, but I do feel that somebody within Lexus have lost there way on the design they are producing. The new GS is not a 5 series, nor should it be, Lexus, in my opinion should be a luxury vehicle, not the halfway sports saloon with 19'' wheels they are trying to sell.

I do think they have problems with the current Gs models.

The ramblings of a frustrated ex Lexus owner.

I don't necessarily agree with the above. I would be looking for a gs when I move on from my isf and would want a m5 competitor. The isf is my first lexus because it took them this long to produce a m3 etc competitor. The m3,m5,amg market is vast! Lexus have the f models coming out but also the non f models to keep to their true colours with softer suspension etc

Hi Larryadler - Actually, scouring the ad's pages seems to indicate that on the face of it, at least, the GS250 doesn't fare much worse than an E350Cdi, and thats a diesel. You can pick up one of those, in Sport trim, for not much more than a GS250 Lux.

I'm disappointed with the engine and gearbox. It's merely adequate - when most cars today have smoother gearing, more torque, power and MPG; and thats with their petrol engines that are smaller! Overall, the GS250 is OK, but the gears can be snappy, especially in Normal mode, and it doesn't really have enough torque to stop it from ust revving/dropping gears. It's at it's best just wafting about sedately in Comfort mode. You can't hustle it like you can a 5 series, without it feeling a bit barge like. But in wafting mode which is how I drive it most of the time, it's superb!!

So may be it's not too bad. Having said that, the E class has been out for 4.5 years, and is so much more dated in terms of interior, drive etc. but is much more economical and quicker.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing; I've commented on it before - you buy with your heart in most cases, with Lexus your heart wins your head over once you appreciate how much more you get for the money.

If I had waited 12 months, I would have been able to buy a GS just like this one, and still kept my old 5 series ('57 plate 525d M Sport Auto with a few bells and whistles, only 34k on the clock - 1 owner), and it wouldn't have cost me any more. Food for thought.

Will I ever buy a new car again? Probably lol.

Even the new IS300h - you can get a nearly new Premier for around £33k before haggling, which is already over £5.5k (+metallic) less than new, and it's still only a few months old.

There are more Moggies about overall than GS's lol

So, if you or anybody else happens to spot NKA 936 on any vehicle......well that was my first number

plate.

Funny how one remembers one`s first (most things!)
