Lurching 400H

Recommended Posts

I've noticed my 2007 400h has a tendency to sort of lurch forward when going downhill. Usually as I'm braking. It always happens in the same spot on certain roads. It's got to the stage where I'm actually anticipating it happening, and even though I know it's coming it can be quite unerving. I've done a search and found an old thread where the cause was thought to be a combination of gearbox and ecu fault.

Anyone else had this problem?

Mine does the same. I think its the transition between the generators charging the batteries on light braking then the brakes coming more into use if you carry on braking.

Or something like that. Hard to explain :)

They all do it.

It is a transition from braking via the electric motors to the mechanical brakes being engaged and taking over. Mainly happens downhill when you go over a bump and a minor wheel slip is detected. There is a slight delay between the electric braking being turned off and the mechanical brakes being applied.

A software update could have solved, or at least reduced, the issue. Unfortunately Toyota never saw fit to implement it.
