Plastic Undertray?

Recommended Posts

Whilst under my RX400 the other day I was wondering if I'm missing something, there is a plastic undertray fitted to the front crossmember BUT nothing covering the sump of engine and gearbox, should there be a plastic tray there which has to be removed for oil changes etc ? Or is the bottom of engine exposed ?

Yes, just checked and it stops at the jack Point.

I had a look around for a silver under engine cover that you see on most 4x4's but couldn't source any for the RX. Anyway the wife has a Rav4 with a silver plate and on measuring it looks like an exact fit for the RX. They sell for £59 on eBay so might give it a try.

Thanks guys appreciated you took time out to have a look and that I,m not missing anything. Seems strange they don't cover that area up like all my other toyota/lexus have had.

Undertrays (full) are there for mostly drive by noise regs not engine bay protection as most people think, the protection is given by the small foward shields mainly to keep gravel and stones from entering the FEAD belt path, they will stop a little direct water splash but are not effective at keeping 80% of water away from the engine, thats why engines are waterproof! :D
