Carbon Fibre Mirror Caps

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Has anyone every purchased or had any experience with Carbon Fibre mirror caps?

I have hunted these down on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-ISF-08-12-RHD-Spec-Only-Dry-Carbon-Fiber-Side-Mirror-Covers-Pair-/390823096346?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5afedf301a

I sent the seller an email asking if they would fit an IS-F. He replied that they would but only RHD models.

Does anyone know the difference between RHD and LHD IS-F Mirrors?

Are they shaped to allow for the puddle light? I can't tell without looking at my car.

Not sure why mirrors would be any different on LHD or RHD. Will wait to be corrected!

Once you start down the CF route it is a slippery slop! Becomes a theme, skirts, grille, slipper, roof spoiler, diffuser...

I found this picture on Google showing the 2010 mirror.

Looks like the CF one.

It is one of those things that because it is imported, i want to make sure it will fit as when it is over here i am busted/screwed if something is incorrect.

You sure that's right?

My 2010 mirror has the indicator/flasher lens on the mirror back. Did that not get facelifted on the ISF the same as the 250 (along with the new shape reverse lens)? I took my mirrors apart the other day (for LED insertion) and it is quite scary the first time you pop that mirror out. But once you've done it once its a doddle to take apart.

You could always carbon wrap it yourself? You have someone in London (Ahmed) who is a bit of a legend in Carbon Wrapping. Just look what he did

Might be worth contacting him for advice.

It's a shame they didn't design these to replace the back parts of the mirror.

Having opened the units up to fit the uprated LED puddle lights, it doesn't look like it would have been too hard to machine the same tabs into a replacement rear cover?

That way you could do away with the colour coded rear casing, or keep it if you wanted to put it back to OEM at a later stage (i.e if you were selling the car on).

I may look into sending mine off to the chap who carbon coated my rear armrest.

Something to think about if you want an OEM finish.
