Hi All

A while ago I saw somewhere (I hope it was here!!) a set of photos and a brilliant description of how to replace the timing belt on an LS400.

Like an idiot, I didnt print it/save it, and now I cant find it anywhere.

If somebody could point me to it, I will be very grateful.

Cheers

Dave

need your e-mail address to send picture.

Not so much difficult as extremely slow, the amount

of dismantling you have to do to get to it is the worst part.

I did not need a puller for the crank pulley it was loose enough

to pull by hand.A conventional puller will do it if stuck, you

don't need a special one.

Do not forget to loosen the crank pulley nut before you start.

Get someone to help you and mark bolts etc. as you remove them,

theres a lot.

I just replaced the timing belt and the serpentine belt,[61000 miles]cannot remember

exactly how much as I got new front rotors at the same time, allow about £200 .

I've only done about 4 timing belts on other cars and I was daunted by the size of it all.

However if you take your time and check as you go along,[make notes and digital photos

if you have to] you,ll be OK ,allow a full day to do it.

It will not be scarey for me next time!!

I'm no mechanic, so at 65,000 miles, I decided to ask the dealer the cost of this. $900!!

I took it to a local trusted mechanic, who himself drives a LS 400, and he did the job expertly for $480.

mine's just being done by a non-lexus dealer, costing about 500 pounds, but that includes two tensioners and a new waterpump, in addition to the belt. having seen some pictures of the job, i thought it was way too daunting!
