  1. I do not agree that the LS400 aped the Merc. It looked revolutionary when it came out, it was sleek and beautiful and still is, probably, the most beautiful car body shape of its era and beyond. Some say it is bland but I believe the shape reflects the aerodynamic which was also miles ahead of most of the competition. Remember the big Merc S600 of the time was butt ugly and you hardly ever see them anymore.
  2. I suppose you have tried the disengage button on the selector? that should allow the key to be turned off. You must have done that! Sorry if it was too obvious.
  3. They only work while the engine is running you know. Sorry if that was too obvious.
  4. There is no starter just a hole going onto the ring gear through the housing
  5. It says that I can pass the email which is a personal invitation to a friend who might want to buy so are any of you friends interested? this is only available at Cambridge Lexus.
  6. I just got an email from them today saying it is an invitation only offer to clear stock and make way for new stock and quality used. "This will not be advertised to the General public" Must be bought by June 30th.
  7. I got a text from Lexus Cambridge offering me a new Lexus at Cost plus £1. So if you are after a new one - this might be a deal to check out!
  8. I got a text yeterday offering me a new Lexus for cost, plus £1 from Lexus Cambridge so if any of you are after a new one there's a deal!
  9. You could run a search on these topics. AC just been on and oil a while back. There are online manuals discussed a couple of posts ago. Welcome is all pretty easy but expensive esp. AC Could just need filling or its blocked.
  10. Lexus posted me a breakdown card so I could phone them to arrange rescue or advice on how to get going. Also they deal with accidents. I bet it costs you though. If you are minted and can't be doing with the hassle it must be nice having a courtesy Lex arriving to get you going again. I'll check whether there is a holder on my MkIII. What I miss is a clip on the Windscreen to catch parking tickets.
  11. You never see this sort of thing as a plot line in East Enders though!
  12. Is it possible to get a reasonable test of an alternator while out of the vehicle so as not to put a duff one in? Can anyone suggest a method?
  13. Just remembered we had a Lada Samara in Jeddah for our ops manager. Our mechanic took it out in the first week and it was written off by a honey truck. Almost a 90 degree bend in the middle. No one hurt. No great loss of a car either all the window winders broke off within the first couple of days.
  14. Yes Jelly Bean you are so right. Nuffield died in 63 Maxi came out in 70. Looks like 7 years to me. Oh well, I would gladly take it up with my Dad but he died a few years back.
  15. My Dad bought a Maxi from Bristol Street Motors in Birmingham (Bristol St.) and the wheel fell off on the way home! No serious damage. Later all the oil exited through the sump due to the clutch cable going through a grommet in the sump pan. He phoned up the Austin and actually got through to Lord Nuffield! who arranged for the car to go through the assembly line for a full check and the new clutch system to be fitted. It was a great car and lasted ages! Sorry no accident there again.....
  16. Hello Jelly Bean there was no offense intended. I was astonished by the lack of concern for safety over there and so little care for the workers (of which I was one). The complete lack of maintenance of an essential pumping system ended up with around 15 dead for the sake of only a little care and consideration. The mark was for emphasis only. I have every sympathy for the workers as well as their dependents and the others drowned. Life is sometimes very cheap over there.
  17. If it wasn't so flexible it might be a better friend :winky:
  18. I've had this when the roof isn't closed all the way. Drove me mad coming back from Brighton once.
  19. I know this was not an accident but I was in Riyadh the day of a giant golf/tennis ball size hail storm. The Car souk was out the back of our sales yard and there were lots full of Mercs, Caddies et al. and all were dented from end to end, hundreds of them! The surface effect was very like the golf ball. Our Asbestos workshop roof was just smashed to smithereens and the trees we planted were stripped to the trunk al in the space of about 5 minutes! Sadly it all melted and flooded at least one underpass. the drains were sanded full and the pumps burned out. Several people drowned in their cars including a minibus full of workers!
