  1. in the US - Lexus runs a "club" for RX400h owners. You register with them and can download stuff. You register at Lexus.com. I would be very surprised if this worked for UK owners though
  2. well - lets play "guess the processing" first of all, it downloads the raw data. I dont know the origin schema or data transfer mechanism - but I bet you all that data is highly compressable - and so even a large amount of data will fly down even only a 512k adsl pipe. then it has to process that data and add it to its internal database. This gonna add some time. Then, it has to cross reference the data you are trying to upload (such as new cameras etc) to its own (now updated) database to see if there is any data worth uploading. This also adds some time. Then - it has to upload that data, at a significantly slower upload speed to the Origin server. I can see that this would mean that it downloads raw data very quickly, and then process and upload new data - and this would take longer. Is is sad that I automatically considered creating an activity diagram to show this?
  3. its seems a very strange thing to base your decision on? you HAVE to put fuel in it sometime. All other things being equal - then maybe it could come down to this. but you seem to prefer the GS, and to be reluctantly buying a BMW - just because it has a larger fuel tank.
  4. Swings and roundabouts mate. The used GS430 will be quicker. But thirstier. But - someone else will have have taken the big depreciation hit. The new GS will probably be more economical. And it will be new - gotta love the new car experience. But then you will face the drop in value the second you drive it out of the delivery bay. I say test drive them both - extensively. Get insurance quotes. Make your on decision based on your own objective criteria (not having a pop at you bud - just saying, we dont know what you want from a car. Test driving them will allow you to make your decision based on the factors that are important to you :) ). And of course - keep us up to date on your progress :D
  5. you have changed your email address to the plus.com one - are you picking the email up for THAT account too mate?
  6. if anyone is having dealings with people on LOC and are being screwed - please let me know. Privately, by PM is fine. But members screwing over other members is not on.
  7. have you subscribed to all topics and all forums? which ones do you / dont you get notifications from? who is your email with (hotmail, yahoo, aol etc are ferocious on spam, and are deleting a fair bit of legitimate email)
  8. are you trying to setup TWO email accounts? One new for your new plusnet account, and keep your old one as well mate?
  9. you download the client from the link below and install it. Thunderbird You then set it up with the server settings, and passwords etc like Outlook Express
  10. no it doesnt mate. Thunderbird, like Outlook Express and Outlook is an email client. That is - it is a piece of software that lets you send and receive emails from your computer. They are NOT connected to your email address, and you can swap clients without changing your email address (although you need to import your old email into your new client if you wish to have it all in one place)
  11. Adie - have a look at Thunderbird mate. Much nicer than OE IMO - some nice anti spam controls built in too
  12. surely you noticed my accent mate? :D I'm not down south any more mate - back home, and working six / seven days a week in Liverpool Have to let us know what it was like though - sounds like a thoroughly good night out.
  13. do the second one as a solid black background, with Pacino as a simple white silhouette. Or maybe vice-versa. you know my thoughts. keep it simple and elegant. Not only will it look better, but it may well be easier. And that will make it easier to get a good job done, and keep the costs down ;)
  14. ooooh - lucky sod. love that film - and this looks like a brilliant way to watch it.
  15. I think everything in that picture is proof that money can buy a lot of things. Taste is not one of them.
  16. I'd disagree there Col. It is bigger - agree there :D but I've never had any trouble parking either an IS or GS. I always back into a space, and the only "problem" I had was initially on getting the IS. Moving from a front wheel drive car to a rear wheel drive one, it "pulls in" in much less space - when I first got the IS I was going much to far past a bay before trying to reverse in.
  17. do not believe the hype regarding mileage on the hybrid. learn from the RX400h lessons - Lexus started off hyping the mileage figures, and slowly changed the emphahsis to performance. I am certain the 450h will be a lovely car, and will have startling performance - but it will not have fantastic ecomony. The mph may well be good for a car with its performance - but they will not be equivalent to a 4 cylinder econbox.
  18. I have had two IS200's, and switched to a GS430 sport in september. I liked the IS, and was quite happy with mine. But, I wanted a more powerful car - and I was also becoming less impressed with the IS becoming so common on the roads (and the state of some of the IS's on the roads). without a shadow of a doubt - the GS is a better car. I am very happy with mine, and when I get an IS as a courtesy car from Lexus - I am glad to get back into the GS. The IS is entry level Lexus, and the GS is next level up - and you can tell. Its more comfortable - nice big leather seats, with a huge padded arm rest with loads of storage space in it. its "nicer" inside - not as much black plastic. of course its quicker - but you cant compare the 3.0 or 4.3 litre engines to the IS's 2.0. What is noticeable is how much more smoother and refined it is, and how subtley it puts the power down. I had a GS300 for a weekend, and bough a GS430. Initially, in both cars I was quite inapproptiately speeding (45-50mph in a 30 )simply because its not so apparent that you are going that fast. They are very quiet - you can cruise at motorway speeds, with a CD / radio on the background - and talk at a normal volume. The downside is the suspension / handling. The IS does handle better than the GS. Yeah - you can change suspension compenents to improve it (as I am) - but you have to compare stock to stock. If you want to be throwing the car around bends, you'll probably find it doesnt take them as well as the IS. I would strongly recommend you test drive one. Work out which model you are interested in, and get an extended test drive off Lexus. When I spoke to Lexus Chester, and made it clear I was a definite prospective buyer, I was given a GS300 for a whole weekend to test drive unaccompanied. See what you think of it. If you have any specific questions about anything, feel free to post them. Hopefully people like Claire, Colin and Brett will let you know their experiences of swapping models.
  19. a member has just posted his IS for sale. technically older, but less mileage and sat nav to boot. same money
  20. at 88 mph my car travels backward in time. and on that note - this thread is done
  21. I would not let the mileage put me off - that is not THAT high. As long as you can see the service records, and they are all present and correct in terms of all servicing been done at the right sort of intervals. I took my second IS up to 63k - and there was no difference between when it had 10k and when it had 63k. Do not know what you mean about values - Parkers says Cost New ('02) £ 21180 Franchised Dealer £ 13735 Independent Dealer £ 13165 Private Good £ 12710 Private Poor £ 10780 Part Exchange £ 11575 so - £8.5 seems a good price. Be aware a big service will be due at 100k, changing belts etc.
