  1. Thanks for that. Just looked. It's quoting £10,100 for a private sale!! That's amazing! Does everybody think a 4 year old IS is really worth £10k??
  2. Morning All.. I have owned 3 IS200's over the years. My current car is 4 years old on the 8th of March and it just doesn't get used very much. I am now a proud father - my son Jack is 12 weeks old which means my annual milage of 3.5k a year is likely to shrink even further. My wife drives a Honda CRV and I work in the City, so I drive *very* few miles and my pride and joy just sits in the garage... Here are the stats: IS200 SE Auto - March 2003 - 03. 18k miles. FLSH - Lexus Southend. Maintained regardless of cost. Always garaged and professionally valeted every 3 weeks (which is about every 150 miles!) Wheels were replaced under warranty and have been fine ever since - no scrapes whatsoever! Colour : Strathcaron Blue. Interior: Oakham. Current plan is to sell the IS and trade in my wife's CRV in April (when it's 3 yrs old) and maybe go for a RX400h and run just one car. An Audi A6 estate also appeals... So, my question is - what is my IS worth if I sell it privately? Would anyone in the LOC be interested? Regards, Neil.
  3. My IS200 is 4 years old in March. Been thinking about replacing it with a lovely new IS250 SE-L. However, everytime I read this stuff it scares me to death!! My IS200 SE Auto has only done 18k miles and is a quiet as a mouse. Maybe I should stick with it until it's 5 years old!!!
  4. I quite fancy either an LS430 next time or a GS430. I've had 3 new IS200's but fancy something second hand next time to beat the staggering cash loss on cars! Does anyone know at what age the new GS430 will reach 30k?
  5. A friend of mine has had 2 C class Mercedes and has had nothing but problems. He was really up for buying an IS250 as he has always liked the 3 IS200's that I've had (and have been no bother). Anyway, he's ended up buying a BMW 320 as the IS250 just worked out sooooo expensive. I've driven an IS250 for a day when my IS200 went in for it's 3rd service. It was a lovely car, but as my Is200 has only done 15k miles the new car did seem *that* much better so didn't really make me want to change. I hope that the posts on here about dealers getting rid of salespeople don't relate to the big price hike. I think I'm going to end up with a 250, but I'll wait until my IS200 is a year older - hopefully, I will have been on the depreciation curve a bit longer and at 4 years old it won't hurt so much to shell out for a 250!!
  6. Hi All, I've been reading with interest all the threads about rattles and problems, etc, with the new IS250. My IS200 is 3 years old in early March and I have been thinking about replacing it. However, due to my wife and I spending large amounts of cash doing up our house (new bathooms, etc, etc) I have delayed replacing my car for another six months. This has started to look like a good move! I dropped my IS in for it's 3rd service today and have an IS250 on my drive. I wanted to drive an Auto, but ended up with a manual, however, the car is great. Especially as it's a basic model (not an SE). I've really enjoyed driving it and would definitely like to replace my car with one. My car's been MOT'd today and is ready for go for another year. I only drive 4000 odd miles a year, so might wait until March '07 before taking the plunge :) It will give me time to save up for an SE-L! Javaboss.
  7. All my wheels on all 3 cars have been perfect. I've never curbed any of them. Like you say, it doesn't appear to have anything to do with curb damage. I guess I'll just have to wash them everytime I drive the car when there's salt on the roads Does anyone know about the warranty situation with the wheels are? If they're replaced say a month before the vehicle warranty runs out and then six months later they rot, I'm assuming the dealer can't just say tough?
  8. Sorry... another stupid questions... Are the refurbished wheels covered by an exteneded warranty? i.e. will the dealer still fix them after the 8th March next year when my warranty runs out? Surely they're taking the ***** if they think it's okay for wheels to rot on a 20k+ car? I might have to think carefully before I purchase an IS250 next year if they are going to take the mickey on warranties with wheels....
  9. Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll give them a wash asap! Hopefully, they'll last out until I replace the car then year :-)
  10. All, I've had 3 IS200's since early 2000 and have had two sets of alloys due to them corroding. My current IS is 3 years old in March 2006 and I had a new set of wheels about six months ago after driving it when the weather was really bad in the winter when there was loads of salt on the roads. My dealer told me that salt caused the problem. Anyway, I've been putting alloy wheel protector on the wheels everytime I wash the car and was told by the dealer that refurbished wheels don't suffer from the problem. I drove to Bedford last night with my wife to visit her father, and at this time of year there's loads of salt on the roads again. I put the car in my garage when I got home and there it will probably stay until next weekend. Does anyone think I'm going to have the dredded wheel 'rot' again? I plan to change the car at some point next year, but if I decide to keep it until it's 4 years old, I don't want to be driving round with knackered looking wheels.... So, my question really is - has anyone had their wheels refurbished and then had no problems in future??? Regards, Neil.
  11. I've had one set of new discs on my IS200 6 months ago under warranty due to them warping. The judder came back again recently. The dealer 'skimmed' my front discs - whatever that is! - and it seems to have fixed the problem again. 3 year warranty runs out in March 2006 so I'm hoping it's now fixed!
  12. I just can't believe I'm reading this! 38k!!! I'd be going totally nuts if it turned up with the issues you've had!
  13. That's why I haven't purchased an IS250 - *yet*. My car is 3 years old in March. I don't expect to get any cash off when the car first comes out. However, the situation might be different in March - you just never know. Like everyone is saying... if you don't ask, you don't get :-) Personally, I think Lexus are great. I'll deffo replace my IS with an IS 250 at some point next year. My wife has a Honda CRV and she wants an RX in 18 months when her's is 3 years old. I'm sure my Lexus dealer will want to keep a regular customer, so will be willing to discuss the price when we come to trade-in.
  14. I never buy a car without a discount. Risiduals are never protected. I find it better to get money off when buying the car rather than hoping i'll see something back at trade in. I plan to buy an IS250 next year - my 4th new Lexus. If the salesman wants to keep a regular customer, he'll do a deal.
  15. I had Sky+ two years and it's the business. Yes, it does screw up and fails to record a program - *but* very rarely. It's great to just put the TV on and see what it has recorded to watch! We never actually watch anything when it's *actually* on anymore! Plus you can spin through the adverts a x30 speed!
  16. I've claimed twice against muppets that have opened doors onto my IS and my wife's CRV. I just call my insurance and give them the reg number. I get the car fixed on my insurance and then they claim of the other driver's insurance. Never had any problems. The first time the driver would not admit liability but my insurance still blamed them. They paid out over 600 quid for a 10p sized dent. I'm with privilege insurance - part of direct line.
  17. Wrote my 2nd IS off 2.5 years ago... Bugger...
  18. I'd read some many different dates for the new model!! When's it coming!??? I've IS200 se auto is 2 years old in early March.... I want to sell it privately a good 6 months before the new model arrives as my wife and I can live with a single car for a while rather than take a massive depreciation hit... Thing is.... I don't know when it's coming.... I don't want to sell and then wait a year to buy the new one! My IS is going in for a service in a couple of weeks... I'm going to have to find out.... If the dealer will tell me!
  19. I think that I'm deffo going to be up for one of the new IS200's when they come out. Does anyone have any opinions on the best time to sell an existing car before the new one comes out? When does the 'big hit' with depreciation set in? My IS200 SE Auto will be 3 years old in March '06 with about 15k miles on the clock by then. Should I just trade her in at the dealer if the new IS comes out around that time? Or perhaps sell my car privately 6 months before and drive the wife's car! Advice welcomed!
  20. This is just terrible. Do Lexus really give a toss about their reputation anymore? I just can't believe that my local dealer would treat me like that if I was in this situation... After all, if this is *so* rare, why don't Lexus just fix it for heavens sake? That way they'd have Top Gear being told how great they are - rather than the other way around...
  21. That's a shame. If that happens when I am looking to trade my IS in 18 months time I think it'll make me look at other makes. I wouldn't make the mistake of trading my IS in for another warp drive depreciation Lexus! I'm loyal to the brand, but getting shafted at the dealer would put me off buying another Lexus. I'd check out other makes and their depreciation levels first I think...
  22. Yep, it looks like the IS has moved into Mondeo depreciation territory!
  23. Nightmare. My IS200 will be 3 years old around the time that the new IS comes out (March '06 from what I've read on here) and I'm pretty sure it'll be worth bugger all as a trade in. It's spotless and will only have done 15000 miles by then (weekend car!) I've had 3 IS200's and they seemed to hold there value much better when they first came out... not anymore... I reckon I'll be lucky if I see 10k as a trade in. Maybe only 7k if the new model is about to arrive!!! If that's the case I might keep it until it's 4 years old!
  24. I'd really love a 350Z. If Lexus made a car like that with a Lexus badge on it I'd be down the stealer with me cheque book! I suspect we're going to end up with a RX300 SE-L though. We've looked at them before and since we purchased a Honda CR-V for my wife in March, I'm beginning to think I made a mistake. It's a lovely car - SE Exec with leather etc, but the engine just isn't that nice. It's only a four cylinder, and revs at 3750 rpm at 80mph and just sounds toooooo stressed. We've just come back from a week in the lake district and the CRV is fantastic once you get there - just crap compared to my IS200 on the motorway. However, the IS200 just doesn't go where the CRV can when you get there! So, I reckon, once the CRV is 3 years old (my IS will be four) we'll sell the IS and the CRV and buy and RX300 SEL for the motorway and lake district work - and then I can treat myself to a fun car.... either a 350 if I can afford the difference between 23k and the 27.5k. Otherwise, it might just be an Elise... :)
