  1. If you can bypass it from within the engine compartment it may be worth doing, in the short term and shouldn't do any harm but keep an eye on the temperature gauge. To get to the heater matrix means a major dash strip down so rather than bypass it there you would be better off doing the replacement instead.
  2. Almost but the last of the LS400s had the DHP set up so stiffer, more sporty suspension and lower profile tyres so the best of both worlds. The only problem.... finding a good one!
  3. A while ago I was running a 1998 GS300 when my LS400 was being repaired and this was the only time I was torn between keeping which one. The GS was a nice ride with an updated interior, ultra smooth 5 speed transmission and a nice 225 bhp straight six so there was little between the two. I kept the older LS and I am glad I did.
  4. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Enjoy the Lexus experience. A 250BHP V8 and rear wheel drive is even more of a handful fortunately mine has Traction Control!
  5. Hello, If it is loose where it joins onto the door panel yes the door trim will need removing and the embelisher. However I would expect to find the plastic moulding where the screws fit into to be broken not just a case of the screws becoming loose within it.
  6. Hello and welcome to the LOC. You can buy the convertor plugs from ebay an example is linked below. To power the sub amplifier you will need a head unit with low level audio outputs ( usually phono sockets) and run a screened cable from one of these to the low level input on the sub amplifier. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/adaptor-TOYOTA-SUPRA-YARIS-PREVIA-LEXUS-IS200-/140303393776?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item20aabbe3f0#ht_2200wt_956
  7. There are loads of after market cleaners and leather conditioners available but for the best results I would ring around some professional outfits.
  8. A little late now but please bear in mind you need to be a Gold member to offer items for sale including a link to the sale website.
  9. The fuses may be different as my handbook is for a 1994 model but the fuse feeding the systems you mention is fuse 14 rated at 7.5A the cigar lighter is fuse 5 rated at 15A. I would start with these two. Both located in the cabin fusebox. If not I will look on the circuit diagram for you.
  10. I would confirm if the fuse has caused it by putting it back and then seeing if the steering coluum then works.
  11. I have EVO 9 wheels on my LS400 but the spoiler may be a little over the top on that.
  12. Welcome to the LOC. Once you start driving the IS I think it will become a permanant car you won't want to change it other than for another Lexus! Should be an easy fit for the child seat too.
  13. Riddings just outside Alfreton.
  14. It may also be worth finding out if your dealer will give you a service discount for being a Gold LOC member. For the price of membership a 10-15% discount would pay for itself instantly.
  15. Hello and welcome to the LOC especially as you are from Derbyshire. May see you around the county.
  16. Good news on the repair and thank you for coming back with the update.
  17. The manufacturer's recommended oil is 5w-30. I've always used fully synthetic 5W-30, it used to be Havoline when Morissons sold it for around £17.00/5ltrs but since its dissappearance I use Castrol Magnatec as Cleverdick suggests. The only down side with Magnatec is it only comes in 4 litre packs which is not enough for an oil and filter change (5.1L) so you end up buying 2 lots initially. Also as suggested look for the special offers at Halfords.
  18. Hello and welcome to the LOC.
  19. Sorry, going on your profile it says under location "Other/Non UK" so I incorrectly assumed you were outside the UK. If the other party has admitted liability (get this in writing if possible from their insurers) you can take your car to a garage of your choice and ask them if they will deal directly with the insurers or pay the repair cost and invoice the insurers. I would avoid if at all possible "Claims management Companies" because the 1st thing they will do is instruct a solicitor for your "Personal Injury Claim" and provide a "Hire Car" the repair of the vehicle is never on the top of the list of priorities. The last bump I had was settled directly with the 3rd party's insurer like it always used to be until these ambulance chasing companies came into being. This proved so much quicker and the settlement was received and the car repaired within 3 weeks at a bodyshop of my choosing. They even gave me an extra amount for not wanting a hire car, I was more than happy with the offer and the insurers saved money which in turn keeps premiums down.
  20. Difficult one to make a comment on because as you say the dealer has made an effort to sort the problem but if it still isn't right there has to be a yet undiagnosed reason. If there is play in the top or bottom balljoints or arms or track rod ends this could have an effect but you would assume these items were checked during the previous repairs. Was a full 4 wheel alignment done or did they just track the front wheels? If the dealer has a similar model in stock you could always request a test drive to see if this is the same or again ask them to drive yours to feel the fault themselves. I assume the car has never been involved in an accident and consequently repaired?
  21. Firstly welcome to the LOC. If all was fine before the service I would be considering taking it back to the dealer who carried it out and asking them to sort the problem.
  22. Have a look here http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p5197.m570.l1313&_nkw=lexus+gs300+brochure&_sacat=See-All-Categories
  23. Lamela appears from profile to be a non UK member so the askmid and Claims management bits may not apply in this case. I would advise as others have suggested to have the car checked over to make sure there is no hidden damage that may cause problems at a later date. I had a low speed rear impact in mine soon after purchase and the damage was limited to the panel under the bumper being broken off at one end and one of the exhaust tips being shoved further up the tailpipe.
  24. Fuel and cat cleaner would have had no effect on the throttle body as the cleaners only work within the fuel system and the throttle body/sensor is located in the air intake system so the two are separate. Question is has the car been OK since the mechanic looked at the problem? On a cold start up the RPM is normally 1000-1200 so this would seem normal, fully warmed up the tickover should be around 650rpm.
  25. Hello and welcome to the world of Lexus ownership and the LOC. There is a lot of useful information on the GS forums for repair and maintainance. Whereabouts in Nottinghamshire are you?
