  1. Hello and welcome to the LOC.
  2. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I would check all the suspension parts on that side, upper arm, lower arm, lower balljoint, anti rollbar link. Also check the brake caliper for seized pins.
  3. I think the logic behind replacing the WP at the same time is that you will have to do the job all over again if a few thousand miles later the pump gives up. As far as I remember the WP on the IS is not cambelt driven but to get to the pump the cam belt has to be removed. There are other quality WPs available for example Blueprint so it doesn't have to be genuine Lexus/Toyota. I must admit I didn't replace mine at 60,000 miles and it is still OK at 77,000 but it's a chance you take. Look for signs of seeping from the pump bearing it will leave a tell tale sign and then spin the pump by hand to listen for bearing wear noise also waggle the pulley to feel for any play in the bearing if it all checks out OK you may be good until the next CB change. Another factor that can effect WP life is to make sure the correct type of antifreeze is used in the system correctly diluted with distilled water as this will minimise corrosion effects.
  4. That wasn't a bad diagnosis then, the pipes are one piece front to rear with a lot of twists and turns on the way, not a quick or easy job to do.
  5. Left side is passenger side and right side is driver's side. Yes bleed nipples need to be at the top or they will never bleed. Pad wear sensor goes on the inner pad. http://autopartmaster.com/imgbank/cat/lexus/image3.asp@piid=45331&treg=E
  6. If you go to a professional body paint shop they will check the paint code and make you an aerosol can up while you wait. Most paints are now water based so you will also need the compatible clear coat.
  7. It could be the low fluid level has tripped the check VSC light as the system will not be able to operate in this condition. There have been cases of badly corroded front to rear brake pipes on the later LS400s which pass through channeling under the car making them difficult to see. Another cause of invisible brake fluid loss is when the brake servo seals fail and the fluid gets sucked into the engine and burnt but this normally produces lots of smoke from the exhaust. Personally if you are a breakdown club member I would call them out to get the car recovered to your garage rather than risk driving it in its present state, if you were to be involved in an accident things could get complicated if you were proved to be driving an "unroadworthy" vehicle. What ever the outcome please lets us know.
  8. I have reservations regarding Sat Navs. "You have reached your destination"
  9. This any help? http://www.lexuspartsnow.com/repair/lexus-color-code.html
  10. I wouldn't consider tasting any liquid with a geenish yellowish tint paricularly if it was warm! If it's been like that for a good while , hasn't got any worse and the pump isn't making any unusual noises I would leave it until the cambelt is due then do the whole lot togther.
  11. Perhaps he got rid of the Lexus because the police helicopter was made available instead.
  12. Do you mean the 6 disc cartridge that fits into the CD player has one of the plastic trays missing? If so I may have one, give me a couple of days to search the garage.
  13. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Main thing is a full preferably Lexus service history, mileage is nothing at 122k, listen for any knocks on the front suspension going over bumps and make sure all the gadgets work. The premium model has its own rear AC, make sure it works. Remember servicing doesn't have to be done by Lexus find a good independent to do it. Yes OEM parts can be expensive but discounts are available or order from the USA. Reliabilty is 2nd to none so I wouldn't worry unduly about expensive problems arising particularly with a FSH. I would expect 18-20 around town and up to 30 on a long run, if you only do 6 miles each way a day bear in mind the engine will only be getting warm by then so it will use more fuel. Workshop manuals are normally on ebay (CDROM) but are normally copies of the official Lexus manuals, you can get the original hard copies for a price.
  14. Hello and welcome to the LOC. You appear to be correct there is no recommended intervals for replacement of the timing belt. My handbook states for the Schedule A every 72 months or 60,000 miles to A = Check and adjust as necessary. Note 1 states. "If you operate your vehicle under conditions of extensive idling and/or low speed driving for a long distance such as police, taxi or door to door delivery use" Schedule B for normal use doesn't even mention the timing belt. The engine is non interference on yours so if the TB was to break ( or one of the other associated components) it would only be an inconvenience not a wrecked engine.
  15. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Mine still haven't improved so they will be off as soon as I get the time to get to Lexus for the real McCoys.
  16. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I had a 1999 GS300 for a short while after an accident in the LS400, no problems at all and the guy I sold it to is still running around in it getting on for a year later.
  17. If the set goes fairly cheap fine but each wheel looks like it has a different brand of tyre on it, I don't mind fronts one brand and rears another but 4 totally different ones maybe not. The spare wheel looks like a good find, probably never been on the car.
  18. I'm no expert but gather from reading other posts that if you pull the EFI fuse for several minutes then reconnect, the ECU memory will be erased and it will then relearn the engine parameters with the new kit fitted and adapt accordingly.
  19. There is one on each side according to the manual, dealer only I would guess but quite cheap for a Lexus Part! It doesn't mention any paint codes so it may need painting? If you don't have a local dealer try contacting the LOCs resident Lexus parts guy ACLex who will normally ship the part out to you. 52162A PIECE, REAR BUMPER, LH 52162‑53903 1 € 5.54 52161A PIECE, REAR BUMPER, RH 52161‑53902 1 € 5.54
  20. Hello and welcome to the LOC. I have a couple of centre caps from a GS300 1999 but not sure if they are off sports wheels, can you post a picture? A little easier, any thing like this?
  21. A good tutorial on the link relating to the EGR cleaning
  22. There are places that will custom make a ss cat back system to your personal requirements for around £300.00. I don't know the quality but it may be worth making some enquiries. I heard HKS mentioned regularly again I have no idea but another avenue to explore. I'm sure some of the IS owners will come in with further ideas as time goes on.
  23. I can tell you are struggling with which way to go, what I suggest is that you send me the £1K and I will think of some great mods for you. :D Seriously you really need to think where you want to spend the money, induction, exhaust or suspension improvements or simply some cosmetic improvements.
  24. The oil level on the dip stick also appears to be alarmingly low and never pushed the car as I stick to the speed limits always. and there are no signs of leaks because i always park at the same place. and I always got the car serviced at the lexus dealership so I doubt if they used wrong type of oil, it might need to go in again for a check up. Or you could simply buy some of the correct type of oil, top it up to the correct level and then regularly check the level over the period up to when the next service is due. At least then you will know whether it was a refill error by the dealer or you are losing the oil somewhere.
  25. Hello and welcome to the LOC. Not sure if the GS is the same but the LS models actually have chrome door trims, windscreen trim and even wiper arms in chrome BUT they are all painted over in black! Problem is removing the paint layer to expose the chrome without causing damage.
