Peugeot 205 Autos had them, for same reason as us, cos the auto box was bigger. Twas a common mod to put an auto bonnet on a manual car.

Looks like an epidemic. I left my car parked outside my house the other day with the hazards on for about an hour and a half and the battery died. Used a booster pack to start it. Then the next day, I left the boot open for a few hours wen I was doing my brakes and it was dead again. Looks like I need a new battery.grrr, more money, Im sure my car hates me.lol. Gazza

When I rang to book my 60k last year, I asked about the cambelt, and she said that it didn't need to be done til 100k. So maybe the change in mileage didn't get as far as Cardiff.lol. Il ask my friend who owns a garage and see what he says, then Il make my mind up. Thanks for all the replies Gazza

Thats a good idea for getting the stamp. About how much should i expect to pay for a main dealer 70k service? Obviously it should be a substantial amount less than the 560 I paid for the 60k cos theres no plugs to change and stuff. I think maybe thats what Il do and get cambelt changed locally by an independant. As long as I keep receipts for work done then I dont see a problem. Thanks for the replies Gazza

I know, I just can't decide how long Im gonna keep the car for, I'd love to keep it forever but the way the tax and fuel is going I don't know what to do. Il ask my local garage for a quote I think, and Il get one off Lexus. And being Lexus Cardiff, they always seem to be more expensive, so I'd better mortgage by organs before I ring them. Il have to have a think. Thanks for the replies guys, although you have replied freakishly quick, me thinks somepeople arn't doing much work,lol. Hi guys, My cars due its 70k service, and its also got a sqeaky water pump (at least i think its the water pump). Was thinking of getting the timing belt and water pump changed at the same time as the service. Only thing is, my car is a 2003, so obviously its out of warranty, but is it still worth having work done by lexus so I get a stamp in the book? Any ideas that little lot will cost? By 60k service last year was 560 quid, but I know thats a big service, but I dont really want to be giving away a small fortune for an oil change and a new belt and pump. Out of interest has anyone else had a sqeaky water pump pulley. Its definatly that pulley cos if I spray grease on the back of the pulley, the noise goes away for a bit, but then always comes back. It only happenis when I brake firmly, so impretty certain its not wheel bearings. Through the pedal you can feel it pulsating slightly. Ive also got a steering wheel wobble at about 50, which I presume is wheel balancing, so dont know if theyre connected. Thanks for the replies Gazza

Hi guys, I've noticed a bit of a noise that I could also feel through the brake pedal when braking firmly. Kind of like a rumbling type noise (like the disc was slightly warped but I couldnt tell which wheel it was coming from. Well I knew that the front discs and pads needed changing anyway so I changed them. But the noise is still there and getting slightly worse. So its got to be the rears. I got the mintex front discs and pads off that guy on ebay and Im more than happy with them. I've looked on his shop and hes got rear discs and pads, but it doesn't mention anything about the drum or the shoes. Is it all in one unit? I dont need to change the handbrake shoes as well do I? Is it much more difficult to change the rears than the front? Heres the link to them rears Cheers guys Gazza

Hi guys, Im changing my front discs and pads tomorrow evening, and was meant to be reading my newly bought .pdf manual to make sure I had all the tools ready.....but I left if it still in its envelope in work. So.. what do I need. Anything special? Or just general stuff. Ive got copper slip, and Il had some wet and dry to clean the sliders. Anything else. Cheers guys Gazza

Alot of newer cars have got little arrows pointing in the direction of the flap/ My gfs fiesta and mw works Navara has got them. Quite handy when I always ddriving diffferent vehicles. Athough to be honest, of the things I drive regularly (My IS, gfs Fiesta, Transit, Navara, and Landrover Defender), only the defender is on the right side. So I shouldnt need reminding (god knows I use the flap on my IS often enough).lol

There was a program on Discovery a few weeks ago, 'Rides' I think it was called. And they followed a US tuning company who put the LS430 V8 in an IS300. Looked really well done when they finished it. Cant remember what they were called tho. They were a similar type company to Boyd Coddington. On the program they showed the bosses car. He had a hot rod chassis with a Lexus V8, had all the steering an pedals and things fixed to the chassis, so he could change the body depending on the time of year. Had a roadster body for the summer, and a coupe body for winter, T'was very impressive. V8 He made it as a Lexus concept car I think.

Whats the difference with the fan washer jets? Ive got the ones where 3 jetss come out, are they differenct to them?

Problem is with getting shot of our cars, is noones gonna want to pay good money for them. I can see me losing a grand on the value of my car against 400 quid to tax it. But at the moment Ive got no intention of selling it. Ive been playing a good game today that involves spotting cars that will probably be in the 400+ tax bracket next year,and theres loads. Makes me feel abit better, but only because I know there are other people in the same boat as me.

Mines March 2003, 64k. Had it for 9 months and done about 8 k in it and love it.

Also, any chance of a mod putting a sticky on this thread. Cheers

Yeah theres alot of cars affected by this, not just the sports or prestige cars. If anyone is a member of other forums then post the link on them if they havn't been already. We need to get as much publicity for this as we can.

Hi guys, Found this petition on another forum. Its against the tax rise that comes in next year for post 2001 cars, so affects alot of us. Petition to: Remove the unfair and unjust retrospective Vehicle Execise Duty levy (back to 2001 year vehicles) as announced in the Budget on 12/3/08. Didin't know of this was the best place for it, so if any mods want to move it to a better place then feel free. Gazza

After trying the snow button thing on a run down from Brum to Swansea a couple of weeks ago, Ive had the snow button on all week. Mostly motorway with only a few miles a day on normal roads. Will see what its been doing to the gallon. Thinking of resetting the ECU on the weekend to see if it makes a difference in the coming weeks. But with the Snow button on it definatly feels smoother and the MPG needle fluctuates less.

I bought mine last June and still love going out to it everymorning. Been thinking and worrying about this tax thing all day. Driving home from work I was thinking that common sense says to sell my car before next april, but pulled out outside the house, got out, looked back and said to myself, **** the government, Ive dreamt of having this car for 5 years and I worked hard to buy it, and already make sacrifises to run it, Im prepared to buy a few less pints and a few less mars bars in the next year to pay for the tax. I love my Lex!!!

But if ours IS's are gonna be 415, then how is 15 quid suppose to disuade anyone from getting an evo, or range rover? Just bloody silly if you ask me, I think they've just looked at how low they can put the treshold to get as much money as they can. I can't see how all these extra 'green' taxes are gonna be spent to shut down all the factories in china and the US. Its pointless us in the Uk even bothering to try and save the environment on our own. Although I bet all the extra taxes will be well spent furnishing MPs second homes with 10k kitchens and 300quid mirrors. Its a complete farse!!!

Just checked on Parkers website, they have a tax calculator, and say that a 200 is banf F, and that it will be £210 quid to tax. So don't know what to believe. If it is 400, I've got til June to save up. Its still a bit stupid tho, cos our cars are worth next to nothing compared to like a brand new Range Rover V8 Supercharged, so its us that are being punished cos we've worked hard to afford a bit of luxury, but its really not gonna bother the chelsea tractor brigade (who I thought were supposed to be the targets) who spend 50k+ on range rovers and X5s that they have to pay 400 odd quid, its a small percentage of they're cars value.
