  1. Mine knocks as well specially when reversing and turning the steering wheel while parking. Just had an MOT last month and no report about any play with the suspension components.
  2. Maybe a stupid question but what do you do/change for a proper tuning? Does the dealer tune your IS everytime you take it for a full service?
  3. Maybe a stupid question but couldn't find the coolant bottle in my IS200, do you check the coolant level by opening the radiator cap? Should the coolant level be right to the top of the radiator? Thanks. Richard
  4. I've had my IS200 SE auto since May and loved every minute driving it. I could say that handling on corners is not the best but who cares, I always take corners slowly anyway. Power is always there should you need it and I love its sound. I get about 100-110 miles for every £20 of petrol on city driving. Well recommended.
  5. Sorry for what happened. I was in the same situation 6 months ago and was so sad hearing that my car was a write off. The best thing to do (I'm sure it's a write off) is to take all the bits you've added to the car before taking it to the garage. Bring it back to standard spec as that's where the valuation is going to be based at anyway. I've lost some of my added items because the car was taken away from the garage on the next day. Also, do not accept their first offer for the value of your car. If your front fogs are ok, take them off as well and I'll buy them off you. :D
  6. Hello fellow Lexus owners. I've had my IS200 for 4 months now and very happy with it. Only let down is the knocking coming from the front specially when parking. A bit embarrassing sometimes. I've also read that lower balljoints are the common problem, would they check it on MOT as mine is due this week. Anyway, how complicated is it to change these balljoints. I've had two labour quotes which are £30 each side from a local garage and £80 a side from a specialist. Just wondering if it's worth paying the extra amount going for the specialist. How much did you pay for yours to get done. Anyone knows any reputable garage that could do the job in North or Northwest London area, kindly let me know please. Thanks. Richard
  7. I paid the garage 8 quids last time and brought my own oil. Didn't bother to change the filter as it has just been changed 6 months earlier. Might sound silly but better having the oil changed rather than waiting for the next service. Oil is cheap anyway.
  8. How hard is it to drill the holes on the pedal? I think these look better than the standard lexus sport pedal.
  9. I bought the right side lower ball joint for £20 inc postage. Now I'm looking for the left side one. Does it matter if one is OEM and the other is not?
  10. My previous car was a metallic black and now I went for a silver one. Black cars look very nice when its clean but they get dusty after a day. Every minor scratches show as well but they are easy to touch up.
  11. I calculated mine by waiting for the petrol warning light to come on, fill it up with 20litres of fuel then wait till the warning light comes on again then calculate the consumption. Did it 3 times then got the average, 19-20mpg.
  12. Mine does 19 to 20 miles/gallon. 2001 IS200SE auto with 112000 miles on the clock, all city driving. My previous C180 was thirstier yet it was underpower. So not bad for me.
  13. How do you become a Gold member here?
  14. Anyone selling 2 front foglights? Mine has corroded, need to be changed.
  15. hello everyone. It may have been asked before but cannot find the right topic. I have this knocking at the front happening only when turning the steering wheel at very low speed. Cannot hear it knock when turning at a speed over 10mph. Knocking is worst when turning the steering on uneven road surface. Car was at the local garage the other day for rear brake pads change and asked the guy to check my front ball joints and told him about the knocking. What he only did was jacked up the car the wiggle both front wheels to check for play. No visual check done underneath, just told me they were intact and no problem. So, is that how you check if your ball joints are still ok? Should I need changing these ball joints, are replacement parts advisable to use. Anyone knows a place that sells them for a fair price? Also, is there any Lexus indy in north or northwest London? Thanks. Richard
  16. very nice B) How much are those sport pedals from the dealer?
  17. Taking the cat off doesn't mean an mot failure. I was told by my local mot centre that they will pass it with or without a cat as long as it passes the emission test. Just don't know the chance of passing without the cat. I was told that old cars don't have cat anyway and they pass mot.
  18. Yep, it's strange, but you'll actually feel the system engage, and it will hold the car where it is - but in my experience it only does so when you bring the car to a complete halt. If you don't it tends to roll forward as far as it can, and then roll back again as the system doesn't engage. Try it out for a bit, eventually you'll figure out exactly how to make it work every time and it will become normal - if it doesn't work, then I'd suggest getting it checked out :) Thanks m8.
  19. So you mean that just bringing it to a full stop before letting go of the brake won't let the car to roll backward.
  20. Thanks for the reply. I'm just worried because my previous car (Merc C class Auto) never rolled backward no matter how steep the slope was.
  21. I've got my IS for a week now and just put in 150miles in it. It's got 112k miles but it drives like a brand new car, smooth and no rattle at all. Just noticed today while I was stuck in traffic that it rolls backward while on Drive, so had to use my handbrake to keep it still. Has anyone experienced the same? How do I rectify this issue? How did most of you paint your caliper, spray or brush? Also is it normal that the boot only opens about 2 inches when the remote button is pressed or is it suppose to open all the way. Thanks. Richard
  22. Hi all. Thanks for the warm welcome. Was looking at the documents yesterday and luckily found the previous owner's number there and gave him a call. It was his wife I spoke to and said they were the second owner of the car and it's been looked after / serviced properly, never get abused and no accident repair done. They only sold it because they didn't want to loose too much on the value if they keep it longer. Also been told where the locking nut is. Quite happy to hear all those. The engine was a lot quieter on idle than my previous 60K miles c class merc. Is it a common lexus fault and a big job to do? Photos to follow soon. Thanks. Richard
  23. I took the gamble, bought an IS200 from the auction without seeing the engine or testdriving it. It's a 2001 silver SE model with auto transmission. Only worried about the high mileage (112000) but its got full Lexus service history with all the invoices and glad the timing belt has been changed. Also noticed a knocking noise when turning the steering while my foot is pressing the brake. Apart from that it drives much better than my previous C180. I noticed that the wheel lock nut is missing, where can I get one? Is it universal?
  24. hi. How much are you selling it for? Any photos? Your location?
