  1. Drivers footwell, from memory middle column second fuse up ( think that's roughly right ).
  2. If you go onto the WIM website and select Geometry only, you can book it in to a recommended place nearest to you ( looking at the map you may need to go over to Edinburgh ): http://www.blackboots.co.uk/
  3. I'd be inclined to take it back to them and ask for a warmer courtesy car until it's fixed. And/or give them 14 days to fix it or you require replacement / refund.
  4. Yes, I'd ask for a years free servicing and two years extra full a warranty as a starting point ;)
  5. General not GS specific. Drive it with the air-con on for a few days ( regardless of temperature inside / outside ) make sure air circulation is set to allow air in from the outside.
  6. When you send your CV to the recruitment agencies, stipulate that you don't wish it to be sent to ABC Ltd or any associated companies.
  7. If in doubt with what Tango says, look at the "tank" and "all-time" mpg figures on the computer memory. Salesman should show you. The IS250 petrol automatic does give 32 - 35 mpg on combined and doesn't struggle at 70 mph like the diesel.
  8. When you say nothing happens, what do you mean? Pedal goes to the floor or pedal is hard but car doesn't slow?
  9. fil4362 to say things like that against the AA on an open forum is leaving both yourself and the LOC open to action by the AA. Strange that you suddenly bring that in to a thread that has no relevance - not very professional at all IMHO :(
  10. Hi Lisa and welcome to LOC :) Does sound strange. If the "fan" was making a noise could this either the belt slipping or the engine frozen. As Tiger says if they can tell when a head gasket is about to go then they are in the wrong business. Is this a Lexus dealer it went to? If not take it to one for a second opinion.
  11. Some very interesting opinions developing in this thread:) I've driven mostly rear wheel drive cars for many years, a mix of manual and automatic, and ranging from less than a litre to 5.7 litres. I've driven cars before the driver aids came out and with all the abbreviations under the sun. I've also driven four wheel drive and now own a front wheel drive. Over the years when the snow has fallen the roads have been more and more challenging. The main problems being pulling away, steering, braking and then tackling inclines both up and down. I have never got stuck apart from trying to get up to my road and up my drive. I have been stuck behind others, I have drifted when cornering and I have slid when braking. The worst of my cars in the snow were the IS200 and the IS250 automatic, I believe because the driver aids caused problems in the snow. The front wheel drive car I have now has been an eye opener, the only time it has had a problem was getting up my drive and as I bought a pair of snow socks I put these on and tried and successfully got up on compacted snow which no car has been able to in the past apart from the 4x4. Now winter tyres. I haven't tried them but I have tried to get some steel wheels and winter tyres this year ( yes for a front wheel drive ) but failed at a reasonable price. The reason is that IMHO they would make the driving safer and I would be able to get up my drive. Stopping, pulling away, steering, braking and going up hills is important to me. I'm not an expert, but am an experienced driver in all road conditions in England. I'm not a mechanic and I haven't driven in the Alps but one thing I know is that four winter tyres is going to make a car do what it's meant to do better. Not faster that doesn't matter. You drive to the conditions and, yes, in snow whatever car you have and whatever tyres you have you drive to suit those conditions. I don't care who you are by saying that winter tyres will not improve the safety and the likelihood of an accident shows you don't really know what you are talking about. For others to say fitting two winter tyres is OK just shows people don't understand, don't listen to advice, don't care and don't understand the laws of physics or the electronic systems on today's cars.
  12. Did you test drive it and inspect it or bought it from an auction or unseen?
  13. That's normally a blocked oil control valve ( try the search ;) ).
  14. Have you notified your insurance Stani? Or spoken to anybody other than the one person from the place who fitted them? You do realise that if you have not informed your insurance that you will not be insured?
  15. I wouldn't want to mix any antifreeze into the screen wash :( I carry a 50:50 mix of concentrated screen wash and water in a spray bottle in the boot for emergencies.
  16. It's fairly clear it's for washers from the diagram on the top, Have you another bottle to fill for the washers? If you have maybe it's for headlamp washers if they are fitted - bit strange though.
  17. Indeed you do, normally on a phone line you should get 5 - 7 mbps. I had the same problem when I switched from cable and it took about 2 months to get it sorted. Eventually a BT engineer came out and checked the wiring to the main phone socket, replaced that for an ADSL one and even went and remade the connections in the box down the road. If he hadn't found a problem it would have cost me a £140. Have you got filters on all phone sockets as that can be another cause of problems.
  18. Try it on here http://www.speedtest.net/ and report back what you get, ( I get 6.3 Mb/ps ) which is OK for telephone line.
  19. Are you sure it's not your broadband?
  20. Snow chains or snow socks can't be driven on tarmac ( one is illegal as it cuts up the road and the other wears out the socks ). So you would need to take them off when you get to the clear road ( and put them back on when you get back to the snow in the evening ). They are fine for continuous snow /slush/ice but otherwise an emergency aid. Winter tyres are the real answer if you can still get them.
  21. Well if you haven't got antifreeze the water would have froze and would as a minimum took the head gasket with it. Have you checked the water level since?
  22. Correct. it' all very well being able to turn, grip and brake on the two rear wheels BUT your front will not grip, steer or brake in tandem with the rear. This amongst other things is likely to cause loss of control and a tendency to spin. It will also play havoc with the cars electronic systems. It will also render your insurance invalid, have you called them and told them what you have done? It's not a waste of money buying four, but maybe a waste of a life :(
