  1. high milage!!! its just ran in!
  2. i've got an 04 rx300 and a 97 LS400, ok its not a gs and i've never been in a gs. i imagine the gs is nearly as good as the ls :winky: but as comparisons go the ls is a far more smoother car although the rx has a more upright driving position which i prefer. the economy is pretty similar, maybe better in the ls (around 22-25 mpg average) you'll be in a higher tax braket next year(£400) i find the 'car' is a much better car even tho its much older, it actually makes me appricate how good it is. saying that the 'jeep' is fantastic but the engine does have to work a lot harder(the ls is 4ltr tho) and is noiser. they are both great cars but if i was to only have one it would have to be the newest 'car'(LS in my case). but dont be put off by that. i would rather have the RX than an IS or a GS!! as i go for looks and i prefer the RX above them two! so basically i'm no help :)
  3. i'm not liking the surround mate. i can see why you went for it tho, but in reality i'd say no. voted accordingly as they say :)
  4. so why did you claim of your own insurance if it wasn't your fault knowing you had a £1000 excess? thats a crazy thing to do isn't it? you then have to prove fault and claim your money back. you should claim of his insurance. if its their fault you pay nothing when its eventually settled. maybe thats what the insurance folk meant when they said said dont claim? if he hit your rear quarter while changing lanes it sounds like you pulled out on him? you still haven't explained what exactly happened, and that fact does make it sound like you're hidding something? and with that in mind it makes it sound like your insurer is and has been offering you the right information. i have over 15 years clean driving record, it doesn't mean i wont make a mistake in the future(touch wood).
  5. Looked at pictures, They are rubbish with a rubbish driver. He's fat and old. :winky: SPRINGS? Is that the only mod you can thnk of for yor car? I can't believe you never asked me for the springs etc for the LS400's as I know everything. I'm let down in you not asking after all the times in the past. P.s. to your answer to your other thread. Gtr faster than mine eeerrrrr not any more as spent few pounds on her recently and yours is a dust catcher with a flat battery. :winky: where can i get loweringsprings for my series 3 ls400? without breaking the bank!
  6. we've just got a towbar fitted as i inherited a trailer tent which we're going to use. the towbar is completely removeable and is practically out of site when removed, its really a good job. £350 fitted, the only downside is the spare wheel doesn't fit anymore? i haven't actually tried to put it in yet, i'm sure i'll get it in! anyway i've opted for the roof rail carrying method as we will need the towbar and i'm not having a rack scratch the car. if you use a towbar rack you will have electrics to plug a light bored into which will have a number plate on. Matt
  7. yes i do, i'm not even sure i want to fit it anyway!!! lol
  8. all i wanted was a cheap bit of crappy plastic chrome to stick on the front of my aged old 400!! and i end up with the seller from hell! there was two US dealers to choose from and i chose the numpty! follow on e-mails, argueing the toss about who did what blah blah blah......just send the ****** kit for crying out loud! he sent it today after winning it on february 28th :shutit: i hope its not the pile of ***** i'mm expecting now! sorry i just had to vent! Matt
  9. i've got mine but never really used it. i got it like you to have a 'trade' at the time i didn't have one. i'm in a similar job now driving a big mobile crane around europe so my life style is pretty much the same. i love it. be aware tho that your class 1(c+e) is very hard compared to your class 2©. class 2 is just a big car and nothing like an artic, you will have to do both(i was lucky enough to pass just mu class 1). as for the jobs themselves, they can be as different as chalk and cheese, the examples i've seen on here are nothing like the jobs i would personally go for. i imagine multidrop to be a nightmare! the ompany who i work for employs a couple of hgv drivers(i do it very occassionally) and they have a good job and good pay. they know what they are loading as its the same thing usually(sections of crane!) but are gong to different places. to make decent money you will have to have nights out and stay in the truck. you will either love it or hate it, its not something you can grow into. the europe jobs are few now as the polish etc are so much cheaper they get all the work. there are jobs there but usually for experienced drivers. the truck stops and trucks nowadays are very clean and nice enough places to stay overnight too. you will work loooong hours, just because you can only work 8 hours on your tacho doesn't mean you'll only work 8 hours! you could be 3 hours waiting to load, drive 3 hours, wait another 2 to be tipped, drive half an hour, wait another 2 to be reloaded then drive another 5 hours!....or you could just drive 4 hours/45min break/drive 4 hours. all depends. i always wanted to be a truck drive....i got into my job with a bit of luck and luckily i love it.....i would still go truck driving tho. if you're willing to work you can earn good money.....realistically over £1k take home a week. like all walks of life they are good and bad people/companys to work for. it will be expensive to pass your LGV c+e(HGV 1) it cost me about £1k about 15 years ago! i did fail twice! you will have to do 2 tests and two lots of lessons, i dont know if driving schools do a non-lgv c+e sort of thing? also you will have to do a medical which is £100+ and you will need to do a theory test. there is a lot to do and think about(as well as the points form others about family etc) but personally i say go for it, if you're like me you'll enjoy it. good luck with whatever you decide Matt
  10. has anyone used these? do they work or are they a bad idea? i'm finding it hard to get some lowering springs for my ser 3 LS 400 and wondered if these would do the job? i could proberbly get some clamps from work which would do the job!! save me a fortune too! would it be safe? Matt
  11. kev, i'm from teeside too. is kev 230k your plate? i'll look out for you, where abouts? i live in billingham. asif, how did you get better mpg out of your LS400's?
  12. i'm sure they wont use your ncb? they ask so they know your driving record. i'd look into it if i was you. sorry for going off topic and have they asked for proof of your ncb? and are you getting another year when you renew? i think you may have it wrong? all my classic insurance has been around the £100 mark with no ncbs i hope you can sort something out
  13. i didn't think any classic insurance used your ncb? have you checked? or ask what the price difference is without the ncb? i'm sure i heard somewhere that you could buil up a seperate classic ncb? not an ncb as such but that kind of thing. i've had loads of different classic insurance and they've never used my ncb. i was actually going to look into trying to insure my 400 with classic as its now ten years old and i think thats the age it has to be, and i only do about 3k miles a year? worth a look.
  14. i ban johnboy because he's out of the waltons goodnight johnboy!
  15. ive just bought these off ebay....i'll let you know how i get on 2 for the front 4 for the back. he had the best feedback for this kind of set up but about £1-£2 more expensive when you included p+p http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-CAR-PARKING-REVERS...1742.m153.l1262
  16. one day i might get some hydraulics to make it dance! until then if anyone knows of any cheap springs?
  17. still got my chrome grill kit to go on. and maybe lower it an inch or two? so far i've changed to clear indicators, different back lights. tinted windows alloys wind deflectors(still not sure) short number plates i'll post better pics when i get the grill kit fitted. what do you think? Matt

  19. cant you get classic insurance on the trans am? they dont use ncb discount on insurance.
  20. both black. the ls was just a damn good one and happened to be in black, now all i'll get is black. hence the matching black rx
  21. ah i see....what you mean is i have a better model Rx :P there was definatley a set on ebay the other week. i'll keep looking.
  22. i got mine today. i cant see them being any difference to thule or mont blanc etc!! apart from where it says lexus! i've got a part No if that helps? going out now so i'll get it later. Matt
  23. i've had my old 97 ls 400 for about 3 years and january time was looking for a new car for my wife.....i test drove a new x type 2.5 twin turbo diesel jag and it was very poor in comparison.....i then crossed the road to look at a 300c as i think they look fantastic...one of the best looking cars on the road....anyway i opened the door and physically laughed at the plastic p*** poor interior. i got in and it felt ok. i then got out and banged myself on the rear door getting out!!....i walked out and we got her an RX. i still think they look fantastic and turn my head everytime, but it still makes me laugh knowing how cra**y they are inside.....really really low budget.
  24. ask this fella a question http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LEXUS-ROOF-BARS-BRAN...1QQcmdZViewItem
