  1. Don't suppose you'll be looking to get rid of a beige leather centre headrest? And Ellz, you're making your car quicker AND removing the airbag... is this wise? lol
  2. Right, tried swapping over the coil packs and it turns out that one of them IS the problem after all, not the injector. Once I'd swapped them I unplugged the same injector that I thought was broken and the engine tone dropped. I plugged it back in then unplugged the injector on the same cylinder as the knackered coil pack and nothing happened. Thanks for the advice all, I now just need to get hold of a replacement and I'll be sorted. Oh btw, how long do I have to disconnect the battery to reset the ECU afterwards? I've heard everything from 3 minutes to 30
  3. Don't do that, you might need that mouth from time to time B)
  4. Yeah, same place as mine. I use Butyl tape... it's the stuff used to stick the plastic service hole cover to your door panel behind your trim (well it is on Toyotas anyway).
  5. Listening to Radio 5 on the way to work a few months back, they were taking calls about a junction leading onto the M25 (not sure where exactly). There had been cones all over this junction for MONTHS, reducing it to one lane and causing huge tailbacks during rush hour. After countless complaints from the public and enquiries by the media, the highways agency admitted that there was NEVER any plan for roadworks on that section and the lane had been deliberately closed to reduce the number and frequency of vehicles getting onto the M25, causing congestion on there!! Following this admission, they then agreed to remove the cones... within the next 2 weeks! I wonder if everyone remained 'British' about it and waited for them to go or whether the cones were launched over the nearest hedge as soon as this admission was made? If it was me who had been stuck in that traffic on the way to work each day, I'm pretty sure I'd have been tempted to 'dispose' of them. Makes you wonder how often this sort of thing happens elsewhere in the country?
  6. Thanks for the tips. I'm not sure the mechanic I know has any diagnostic stuff. He's one of these old fashioned mechanics who listens to your car, sniffs the exhaust and probably tastes a few things before telling you what's wrong. I might try swapping the coil packs over though, soon as a get a few minutes without my kids nagging me to take them to the park!
  7. Yeah, sorry, forgot to mention that the engine light was on but that came on before I started messing with the coil packs. I see what you mean about a coil pack / spark plug having the same effect but how come the engine cut out when I disconnected the coil pack on that same cylinder? How does that work? Any suggestions for how I CAN work out which is broken, without going to a garage then?
  8. Short Version : How much do injectors cost? Full Version (if interested): Started up my IS200 Sport on Friday morning ready for work and it sounded like crap and was shaking more than usual. Seemed obvious to me that it was only firing on 5 cylinders so having read on here about coil packs, I decided to check them when I got home. I followed a friends suggestion that I should disconnect 1 coil pack at a time and listen for a change in engine tone but I found that each time I unplugged one, the engine died. With no idea how else to check them, I decided to have a look at the spark plugs. I removed one coil pack only to find that the removal tool I had wouldn't fit into the whole where the spark plug sits.... sigh. As something of a last resort I decided to disconnect each injector in turn and bingo, the fourth was clearly not working as the engine tone didn't change one bit when I tried that one. I then set about unbolting the rail that the injectors are connected to but found that it was impossible to remove the middle bolt without shifting the throttle body out of the way. That really was the end of the road for a noob like me. SO, at least I know what the problem (almost certainly) is and I can get it booked in with the same lad who did my sticky brake calliper knowing that he won't rip me off but as I haven't had chance to speak to him yet, I was just wondering if anyone has an idea of how much the part itself is likely to cost?
  9. That would make sense, to be honest. It's always seemed a bit backwards to me.
  10. Very nice, mate, looking good. I'm thinking of refurbing my wheels in a similar colour.
  11. Mine's gone as well! I reckon we should demand a response from the Lexus MD on this matter!
  12. Can you shove 18s straight onto a standard IS200 Sport that currently has 17s? Seems to be plenty of room around the arches. accurist, they look great. I've been thinking about darker wheels for mine which is the same blue as yours and they work really well.
  13. Maybe us lads are just more inclined to mess with our cars and therefore seek advice here, rather than just drive them. [Carefully re-reads post to ensure that he's posted nothing remotely sexist]
  14. If it's anything other than the 13902 model then I might be interested if it's cheap enough. I bought a Grom iPod interface and installed it without owning an iPod yet and THEN found out that it won't work with that model!
  15. I think it looks great aside from the rear spoiler. That ruins the side profile a bit for me.
  16. Since buying one myself in January, I've noticed quite a lot of them about. As Spikes suggested though, you'll see FAR FAR more BMW 3 series' knocking about. I still feel good driving it around anyway B)
  17. I've just discovered that I have that unit as well. Wish I'd read about this before shelling out for the interface and installing it!
  18. Ejector seat, one's got to be ejector seat!
  19. sigh... I ****** hate this country. Thanks for the help. :(
  20. I was reading a thread that Stav had posted regarding a number plate surround he'd bought and someone posted a link to a site that makes the actual plates. I had a play with it and came up with this design that I think would look pretty cool on my blue Is200 Sport (opinions welcome) : Trouble is, I'm not 100% sure of the legality of them. Knowing that there are some MOT testers who visit these forums, I thought I'd ask. I looked on the VOSA site and that stated : Vehicles with incorrectly displayed registration plates already fail the MOT test. From Monday 1st October the requirements will be tightened to further align with the regulations. This action is being taken to aid eye witness accounts, traffic enforcement cameras, Automatic Number Plate Recognition systems and road user charging technology. Registration plates must be present, secure, show the correct registration, colour and be the correct size, format and font. MOT testers are not required to carry out physical measurements but will complete a visual inspection. which doesn't really explain the requirements in much detail. Also, I read in a national newspaper a few months back where someone had written in asking why his car had failed it's MOT due to the number plates. The 'expert' suggested that his spacing was slightly out AND current law states that the company that provided the plate must be displayed at the bottom of the plate! I can't find this law anywhere else though. Anyone?
  21. Just out of interest, anyone know what sort of difference this would make in terms of performance?
