  8. Just taken my LS for it's MOT and I knew it would fail as the O/S track rod end rubber boot was split and leaking but I wanted to get them to check for anything else on the front end so I could do it at the same time in case I missed anything.. So he put the car over the pit and checked all the usual stuff wipers, lights, horn, seat belts and for the first time ever the petrol cap to see if it's got a good seal, then jacked the back up checked the tyres exhaust etc, then drove the car forward so the front wheels were on the swivel plates and then pressed a button in the pit, then all of a sudden the wheels started shaking, turning, jumping on the front and rear like a low rider on hydraulic suspension to check the tolerances and movement on the front and rear suspension (never seen this before),so I thought OH :tsktsk: me, there is no chance I'll get away with anything on the suspension I'll need to start replacing bushes, ball joints etc,so all the info goes directly to the computer and even the bloke wont know if it's passed until the computer tells him if it's passed. Well bugger me it passed, but I know it shouldn't of done as the track rod ends needed replacing,so it just shows what happens if you take the inspecting out of the testers hands and leave it to the computer.
  9. Just checked with todays exchange rate I'm only £30 cheaper getting them from Sewells and thats without getting charged by customs here.
  10. Cheers Mat,going for it's MOT next week and I'm getting prices just in case it fails on them.
  11. Stick me down for a fiver,I would donate more as my Mother died from cancer, but I'm not working at the mo.
  12. Cheers Tony,I'll have to go to Lexus for the shims then as there's none on the pads and I'll look at Prolex, plus can I make it next Tuesday instead of Monday for the tracking and is it still OK to fit the track rod ends at yours.
  13. Just a couple of questions really, 1 - Partco can do me the front top wishbone/ball joint for £235 inc VAT per side, good or bad? 2 - On the front brake pads should there be a backing plate/shim on the back of the pads or are they just pads & calipers?
  14. Cleaning Throttle body Hope this explains it OK In a fuel injection engine, the throttle body is the part of the air intake system that controls the amount of air flowing into the engine, in response to driver input. The throttle body is usually located between the air filter box and the intake manifold, and usually attached to, or near, the mass airflow sensor. The largest piece inside the throttle body is the throttle plate, which is a butterfly valve that regulates the airflow. When the driver presses on the accelerator pedal, the throttle plate opens up, allowing more air into the intake manifold. Either a throttle position sensor or an airflow sensor measures this change and communicates with the ECU. The ECU then increases the amount of fuel being sent to the fuel injectors in order to maintain the desired air-fuel ratio. Throttle bodies may also contain valves and adjustments to control the minimum airflow during idle.
  15. Here is Chris's site LCD Repairs but Chris can supply it already soldered for a small extra fee
  16. Cant help you out with the part number as I haven't needed to it on mine YET!!!,even though the Lex is a smooth ride your XJ6 I think has one of the best rides ever in a car.
