  1. Personally I don't find it a hardship pointing my key at the tailgate and pressing a button.
  2. Ah right fair enough I thought it sounded odd. makes sense now you say that you need key in your pocket.
  3. I'm not a big fan of emoticons Dunc, but if I was I'd have one with it scratching it's head mate.
  4. From what I can gather Paul is that the inverters were meant to changed due to an internal fault, causing the inverter to overheat and damage the modules transisters, thanks to Spurty posting this info up on another thread. Lexus Poole did the upgrade from what Lexus Exeter tell me, I'm sure that the inverter didn't all of a sudden become faulty simply by the fact it hadn't been driven for 5 days, now I'm not 100% sure where the inverter is situated but by parking my car on my driveway on an incline, with the front facing downwards, in the wettest spell in years, we really had it bad here, somehow the inverter has become damaged due to water getting into the unit, and again not 100% sure but would have thought it should be sealed from outside elements, now I'm in the way of thinking that when Lexus Poole undertook this replacement, they haven't re-sealed the unit up properly, doubled up with the fact that there may be a leak getting in from the rear somehow, I don't know I didn't check, but is plausible, and because the car was on an incline and not flat, allowed even the smallest amount of water getting in to build up somehow over a few days and get into the inverter. That's my guessing anyway. I just cant see why its taking so long, surely with emails this can be sorted out in a day, two at the most. Lexus Exeter say they should hear back from Poole tomorrow, that way hopefully the job should be done by Saturday tea-time at the latest, seeing as it apparently takes just 4 hours to do.
  5. To be fair. all the lads I know with beamers and have used EBC went with the Blue Stuff iirc, certainly wasn't Green I do know that. I think it would be around 2000 when I first got into the EBC pads and used the standard Black for an Omega Elite I had
  6. Well Paul, I was going to sit it out and see how it all panned out, but when I saw your thread, I thought I'd add my ten bobs worth, as it seems we both have the same problem and Lexus Poole is the common denominator, One thing I didn't do, which with hindsight maybe I should've done, was to check carpets ,rear boot wells etc, for water, it's just an inconvienience at the minute, but if I'm nowhere nearer in a week or two's time, that's when it becomes a problem.
  7. You can get the EBC Green Stuff 3000 for the RX too but just not as heavy duty as the 6000 maybe that's where you went wrong Box? When Tony at W.I.M fitted them for me we had to leave the anti squeal shims off, it took 6 months before the shims would go in.
  8. Paul when you say you took your car to your local Lexus dealer, would this be Lexus Poole? The reason why I ask is, same as you I'm having problems, Lexus Poole will become clearer later. Last Saturday after owning my 400h for just over a week, wife was nipping out into Newton Abbot, after about a minute she comes back into the house saying that there was a warning light on the dash, so I went out to the car and saw the error message 'CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM' seeing as how the car had started up and the warning was in white, I suggested she try and drive it and see if the light would go out, seeing as it was in white, and had been told error messages in Amber are a warning, but error messages in Red you should report immediately, so off she drives, and I go back into house, a minute later wife's on the phone saying car has broken down up the road, everything just stopped engine, brakes, the lot, she gave it a few minutes and tried starting it, which it did, and limped home. Meanwhile I'm trying to ring Lexus Exeter but just missed them, as they'd closed for the night, So then I decide to google the 'CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM' error message and find there's a common thread with the Inverter being at fault. and possibly due to water intrusion, now the car had been on the driveway for a few days, and the torrential rain had been at it all week, it hadn't been driven through floods or anything like that because due to the terrible weather we'd been unable to go anywhere. Next morning first thing Sunday I'm on the phone to Lexus Exeter, chap there says to ring up the breakdown on back of tax disc, half an hour AA bloke turns up, car starts, but he sees the error message, nothing he can do , he calls his mate with the low loader to take it back to Lexus Exeter. Second chap turns up, again car starts up, error message is there but he can drive it onto low loader off he goes. Monday ring Lexus, the lass there says yes it's a problem with the Inverter as first thought, and the thing is, and here's where Lexus Poole comes in, tells me that when there was a recall Lexus Poole did the check for the previous owner, and it sounds like they haven't re-sealed the unit the inverter sits in, or something to that effect. Anyway tea-time tonight lass at Exeter rings apologeticly, saying they've never had this kind of problem except for once when some other berk drove his Hybrid into a lake, a few years ago, and that she was waiting for Lexus Poole to get back to her. , I did ask her how much longer and she must have misheard me and told me £3000 pounds, till I told her I needed to know how much longer she thought it would take, as obviously once they get a reply from Poole, they then have to go and get on with the repair. So that's where I am at the minute.
  9. Noticed the bit about types of pads, for the RX300 I went with the EBC Green stuff, heavy duty 6000 series, reccomended for 4x4's. Now I know each and everyone has their own preference ,but thought I'd throw another option in. Plus just checked and see they lasted 52k before renewing them. I'll also be putting them on the RX400h when the time comes.
  10. I'm thinking they're the 104Y's yes Steve, I'd think they may be a tad harsh in a lower profile, such as the 45's but I had 55's and very little road noise, it certainly stopped the boating which the 16" wheels and Toyo tyres gave me. For some unknown reason mind, the first set had a yellow scorpion on them, the second set didn't.
  11. Put an 068 Calcium battery on my old RX300 last year £77.50, could leave it on the driveway for a few days at a time without the alarm draining the battery. unlike the previous one.
  12. Ah right cheers, have a mate in MK, so can grab a bacon sarnie and mug of tea or two while Tony works his magic on the car set up.
  13. Cheers for the heads up, I'm presuming he's still somewhere around Amersham?
  14. Bought my RX300 back in august 2008 changed from 16" wheels up to the mk2 18" wheels, then the car was at 38,000 on the clock. Put a full set of Pirelli Scorpion Zero's on. At 42,955k took the car over to Tony over at Wheels in Motion, as it was suggested to have the geometry set up on the car properly to prolong the life of the tyres, due to the fact that Lexus's are set up for Japanese roads and not ours. At 81,546k miles replaced two tyres, and at 91,965k miles replaced the two others, that works out at 53,965 miles for two tyres, and 43,546k miles for the other two, now recently just upgraded to the RX400h and did a trade in, chap checked the tyres and at 114k the rears were at 5mm and fronts were at 6mm. Have Dunlop SP270's on the RX400h at the minute but will be booking the car in with Tony at W.I.M again soon, then will replace the Dunlops with Pirelli Scorpion Zero's again.
  15. Have had my RX300 for 4 years now, first thing I did when I purchased it, was to convert it to LPG plus Flashlube, I purposely went for a low mileage 2003 mk1 (32k), rather than a higher mileaged 2003 mk2, due to the fact being the tyre well is ideal to install the LPG tank in the mk1, as I didn't fancy the idea of having it underneath and being pretty close to speed bumps, as it would have been in the mk2. May I say the detractors of LPG in here, have obviously had a fair bit of bad luck, but I certainly wouldn't place the blame at the door of LPG, in the 4 years of owning the RX300 its only cost me two sets of tyres two sets of EBC6000 series brake pads, new front discs, and a battery, which after almost 80k of mileage I'd say was pretty decent, I've been advised that in the near future I'm going to need to replace the exhaust system, and due to the mileage its advisable to replace the timing belt. Another thing I did when I bought it was to take it to Tony at Wheels in Motion, to have the geometry set up, as apparently the adjustable chassis is set up for Japanese roads, and not ours, best £75 quid I ever spent, as this definately gave the Pirelli Scorpions their longevity. I initially came in here as I'm going for the RX400h as my next car, and was looking to see the reviews on LPG conversions in them, but in seeing the mixed reviews I for one, wouldn't be put off in converting a RX400h to LPG. Regular services on the Lexus, and an annual service on the LPG has worked ok for me.
  16. Dont do it !!! I had my 2002 GS300 (same engine ) LPG converted, ruined the car, as Lexus say it does not work on these V Tec engines, 2 engine re builds and flash lube system later I had to bale out and sell it, lost a fortune to save a little ! Sorry to hear you had a bum deal with your LPG conversion Tony, but were the people who fitted it competent and an aproved LPG agent? and how come you didn't have Flashlube fitted from the off? When the average cost nowadays of fitting LPG is between £1500 and £2000 I would have thought the £75 or so, it costs to fit a Flashlube system fitted a small price to pay for peace of mind considering the amount of money you possibly forked out for not installing it in the first place. Hindsight I know, but the garage should also have explained the negatives of not fitting Flashlube. I had my LPG fitted to my RX300 last year, costing me around £1700 and after almost 20,000 miles to date, the engine is still as sweet as a nut, with absolutely no problems whatsoever, and by this time next year I reckon it should have about paid for itself, taking into account the cost of petrol I would have put into it by then, therefore costing me nothing, plus its put value onto the car. As for Lexus saying it doesn't work on Vtec engines well go figure, sorry bud but it ovbiously does. So my advice to Nigel is go for it mate, but make sure you use a reputable agent to convert your Lex to LPG, and definately have the Flashlube system fitted. The £1100 you've been quoted does seem rather cheap, but I suppose due to the competative nature of the LPG conversion industry nowadays it's possible that prices are coming right down, but also remember you do get what you pay for. Another thing the garage doing the conversion should offer you a post fitting service plan, if not stay clear of them. Just my ten penneth worth anyway
  17. Last August I found myself needing a full set of tyres for my RX300, after reading dozens and dozens of different threads,in different forums on tyres, I decided that I'd go for the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros, the local Kwik Fit was doing a promotion on these for £500.00 the set, straight after I went to W.I.M to get the geometry set up, (you only have to have it slightly out to affect tyre wear) Now 6 months on and 14,000 miles since fitting the Scorpions I can honestly say theres been hardly any tyre wear whatsoever, they've been brilliant in both the wet and dry, mainly motorway driving but also the odd off beaten track now and again. The only bug bear that I've found with them, is that you can pick up small stones within the tread and you get this annoying ticking sound, until you stop and pick out the offending stone, other than that they're very quiet on the road. Of course £500 for a set of tyres can seem expensive but in the long run can actually work out better economically than fitting cheap budget tyres, they are budget tyres for a reason, simply being they aren't as good or efficient as the higher priced tyres. Yes we all know theres a credit crunch with us at the minute and alot of people must cut their coat according to their cloth, and most people have no choice but to go for the cheaper option, but what I can't understand is why some people go out of their way to try and get the cheapest budget tyres, and then 5 minutes later spend hundreds on the latest sound system for their car. If I was selling a car and needed a couple of tyres to get through an M.O.T then yes possibly I'd bang on a couple of cheap tyres, but with safety in mind I think paying an extra £30 - £40 on top of budget tyre prices, is a small cost to pay for peace of mind when it comes to safety for you and your family, but hey that's just my opinion.
  18. Welcome mate, The aircon filter you'll find right at the back of the glove compartment, after removing carefully two small panels, replacements can be found on fleabay pretty much cheaper at about half price of oem ones,at main dealers. Enjoy your Lex. Nev
  19. Andy just had a read up on the EBC ultimax, and now remember why I went for the Greenstuff ones, the Ultimax are a good replacement for the OEM pads, and are a good budget pad, but it was the less brake dust from the Greenstuff ones that swayed me. I'm a lazy so and so and didn't fancy cleaning my shiney alloys every weekend, come rain or shine. Ultimax General replacement pads Greenstuff Performance upgrade and far less dust Redstuff For cars producing over 200BHP Yellowstuff Track and fast road Bluestuff Endurance racing
  20. Sorry but had to nip in and give my ten penneth worth, and to add some support to EBC Green stuff pads, seeing as how I'm pretty much impressed with them on mine so far. Bearing in mind theres the 4000 (standard)6000, (heavy duty) and the 7000 (mainly for 4x4)series of Green stuff pads, I plumbed for the 6000 series, Tony at WIM fitted them for me last November, and because they have a special coating to aid with bedding in, Tony had to leave the out two shims either side on the Front pads as they were too thick to put on with the shims as well, and recommended I tried to re-fit the shims after around 1000 miles or so. Well last week after 2 previous tries to refit the shims, and 5000 miles on, the shims still won't fit, as the pads have hardly worn down, car stops on a sixpence, and yes I initially have a little squeal for a couple of days after trying to refit shims , but goes to quiet afterwards no problem.
  21. Anybody out there that keeps getting asked what they want for Christmas by their girlfriend, boyfriend, spouse etc, and are still unsure, might fancy a butchers at this, for me the drive in the Ariel Atom looks fun, I remember Clarkson rating it highly on top gear. experience days There might even be something in there that the LOC could do as a group event? just a thought Nev :winky:
  22. Hi Steve, Did you fit these yourself? and if you did was it an easy enough job? As I'm thinking of converting my RX300 over to Xenon headlights. Cheers Nev
  23. Some nice cars there, if I'm not mistaken this 6r4 is the one driven by Tony Pond in the Lombard RAC Rally, if it is I rallied against it at a Tarmac rally Wymeswold or Bruntingthorpe about 1986 , Tony only had the clubman engine in that day but still went like stink.
  24. Thinking about it further Mike, if and when you do loosen the castillated nut, you'll probably need a ball joint splitter, which if I remember rightly is a wedge shaped chisel with a slot running down the middle of it. Heating it up is something I'd try and leave as a last resort, as any exccessive heat on the joint would have a tendancy for it to become tempered, making it more brittle and I'd rather something bend on any harsh impact than snap. Anyway Tony from W.I.M may just read this thread and put us right, I'll bet he's done thousands.Nev
