  1. It ended up being a nut on one of the drop links hadn't been tightened right up.
  2. I am now getting a clunk on both sides I can't see or feel anything loose it sounds like the anti roll bar is loose and clunking but that all seems to be quite solid. Drop links were replaced recently so not them. I do hope the mechanic tightened up the bolts when the arms were loaded as looking at the angle of the rod and bushing it seems to be set at a strange angle and it's anything but straight. Anti rollbar and steering rack bushes were all replaced about 20,000 miles ago. Taking it back to the mechanic on Thursday for him to inspect. I can get it to clunk on both sides by pushing up on the wheel arch.
  3. Unfortunately I have to carry a fair amount of stuff with me which is too much by hand. When this season ends I revert back to riding to work on a bicycle as nothing to carry. I play golf twice a week and that gives me plenty of walking thanks!
  4. Well I thought that 27mpg was a bit high and having gotten through another tank of fuel I find it is 22mpg which is better than the average of about 19mpg I was getting before. That's doing six 1/4 mile to work and 1/4 back again a week mixed with 15 miles to the golf course and back again a few times and a number of five mile journeys. Not taking it easy either so a pretty good result. I was complaining to my mechanic the other day that the engine was slightly noisy and he said not to his ears it wasn't and gave me a very quiziccal look! I remember my Toyota Soarer with the previous incarnation of the 4 litre v8 which had 90,000 miles on it was dead silent you could not hear it running.
  5. I had the front strut bushes replaced on mine on Friday having already had upper control arms done and lower ball joints. And it is slightly firmer and holds the road better at speed, mine had cracking in the rubber but had not come apart. This bush takes a lot of the forces from the car when braking etc and has tightened things up at the front end. A four wheel alignment now needs doing as some bushes and an arm were replaced on backend also. I think I may take it to Wheels-Inmotion in Chesham as I have heard good things about them, it's a 140 mile round trip but having had a four wheel alignment done twice locally by different companies and telling me they had altered camber etc when my mechanic found the bolts were seized on front and rear when he fitted bushes and arm, I shan't be going back to them.
  6. Well an update on this I also cleaned the air mass controller and replaced the air filter and with a tankful of Redline fuel system cleaner SI-1 (which has high polyether amines content) now run through and that temperature sensor replaced the car now nearly always ticks over at 600 rpm . I also checked the mpg and I got nearly 27 to the gallon and that's with mixed driving. I will have to check that again on the next tank as I have never gotten anywhere near that figure before even on a long run! Oh and I had the fuel filter replaced which was quite dirty which the mechanic showed me with petrol running up his arm. I was glad I got him to do it!
  7. Has anyone managed to clean this through the drain plugs I tried with an A/C cleaner that was alcohol based but couldn't get the tubing from the can to go up the drain plug very far. Is there a knack to it or is there a protective flap of some type?
  8. I thought it was a legal requirement since January that the companies had to include the vat if sent from abroad.
  9. Last two packages I have had from Amayama have incurred no charges and have come direct to me!
  10. I asked LPD for a price on camber adjust bolts for suspension they were £19 each! Off to Amayama I went.
  11. I had a brake dust shield that was rusting through and was loose and that made some strange noises.
  12. I shall not get into an argument about it. I would never use an additive like Slick 50 and that's about the height of it! I will no doubt not change your view on it and you will no doubt not change mine.
  13. It may well be that was the problem, who knows? The flipside of additives http://ultimatesyntheticoil.com/facts_about_aftermarket_oil_additives
  14. One thing to add on this the PSB bushing kit 583 does not fit on the narrow end but does fit the end you see in the picture. I believe it fits '94 and below.
  15. It kept doing it always on long journeys and it was added correctly.
  16. Got through an Mot a few months ago I don't think that hole suddenly appeared! Rear suspension arm no.2 in Parts catalogue.
  17. Well all I can say is I had no problem with the car before I added the stuff and it went into the mechanics after it did it the first time and they found nothing wrong with the car and concluded it must have been the Slack 50 (sic).
  18. I remember using Slick 50 on an Opel Ascona and afterwards on a long journey it would just slow up and stop. I had to wait ten minutes and then it would run again!
  19. Also had steering pump replaced, upper front control arms, lower front balljoint, rear suspension arm no.2 with poly bush on brake side, coolant temperature sensor, air filter, Mass air controller cleaned, throttle body cleaned, ECU capacitors replaced (thanks Steve), cushion on front strut bar getting done. Running quite sweetly!
  20. Hell of a lot to read! I actually put 5w/30 Synthetic Amsoil Signature Series in my 216,000 miles mama as I do a lot of short journeys quite often.
  21. https://540ratblog.wordpress.com/2013/06/20/motor-oil-wear-test-ranking/ Interesting link but could take some time to read it all!
  22. http://carspecmn.com/lexus-ls400-doesnt-start-single-click-intermittent-no-start/ This for LS 400 but good information from a mechanic for a lot of Lexus and Toyota vehicles.
