  1. my one single BluePrint part was a front UCA and it lasted only 43k miles, about 3 years or so and cost about £250 the cost of each genuine Toyota UCA from Amayama incl carriage, Customs Duty, VAT and the other £12 fees tooooooo for Parcelforce admin fee who had a hand in it all somewhere Malc
  2. when mine went, 3 of the 4 fixes ( or was it 2 of the 3? ) had seemingly long perished and the 4th had then just gone, causing it to drop and be loose resting on top of the exhaust BUT it only rattled at that last time .. it pulled away quite easily with a bit of tugging to remove it from it's challenging space .. it was never going to just fall out for sure Malc
  3. my front droplinks from Toyota / Lexus were about £128 EACH I believe, so we used ECP parts ( or someone like that ) at about 25% of the cost Rears I don't know about What i do remember quite well was the front nearside UCA just " went " clunk while I was in the Dolomites a few years back and it didn't make one iota of difference to the drive at all, just an MOT failure and replacement with BluePrint which was a bad move, it only lasted 43k miles before being replaced with a Toyota part from Amayama at the effective same price after all costs Malc
  4. when mine had an intermittent dreadful rattle over a certain place, like a string of baked bean tins, it transpired to be one heat shield that had come adrift after 23 years ........... duly pulled out and disposed of, not replaced, seemed to be a bit superfluous tbh, bit over engineered my indy thought Malc
  5. I replaced mine at Lexus / Toyota earlier this year and they supplied the correct battery for the Mk3 ...... it actually fits the tray properly ... most other makes just will not Malc
  6. Brian hi, did your guys give you any further info on this ? Thanks Malc
  7. the waterpump I think you should change, even if it looks and performs ok. It will be in there for at least another 10 years / 100k miles and should it fail in the meantime it's a hell'of'a job to just change that alone .................... not a high value for the waterpump and resultannt coolant so, I would suggest it be done Malc
  8. 20k miles for a oil filter seems a bit long in the tooth ...... isn't there a simple tool to help with it's removal maybe Malc
  9. the oil filter is so relatively cheap compared to the oil and the potential for going clogged up with gunge that I would surmise oil filters are changed with the oil each and every time mine is for sure, always has been on all of my cars Malc
  10. you could have it as a modern day Police Wolseley 6/110 and fit said blue lights and bells Malc
  11. Ireland was going to be a problem for me when I went touring for a month last year So I bought an actual real time Map, booklet .. about £12 I think .. Waterstones had one but i went on line and bought a more up to date version and cheaper The proper Ordnance Survey production of the whole of Ireland Malc
  12. but in my case they are of that I am certain ..... I think Well some days I think so ....... I'll just take another pill to make sure. Now where were they Malc
  13. my apologies, perhaps one day as I grow older and wiser I shall understand more meaningfully what on earth you are talking about from time to time as I say, my apologies for misconstruing what it was you had said, my fault totally Malc
  14. I presume they really really thought the car would never need recovering ....... ever Malc
  15. my apologies kind sir, I didn't quite understand the Q with all that followed in the same breath ! Malc
  16. did you order your air strut from Amayama or Rockauto or straight from Lexus ? Malc
  17. if this warranty just simply covers the batteries then reading the USA posts there are some serious other issues surrounding the hybrid set-up that can fail too The Inverter at $24,000 and whatever this Carbon Switch might be at $7,000 all a bit scary to be sure and for me to " invest " in a much later car and to take out comprehensive Lexus insurance ( is it really that comprehensive ) seems a bit of a financial nonsense to me quite frankly I enjoy my Ls400, and my previous two too at their time. I also have my quite superb 56 plate AWD Honda Legend that I have trouble driving, the seating, steering rake and all else totally fails to allow my legs to be comfortable after 10 mins driving BUT it really is the gf's car so that's all ok Never been a petrolhead nor impressed with status symbols nor 'wanting to have ' the latest or very best of anything tbh, just enjoying good simple quite comfy safe reliable easy driving with plenty of oomph to get me out of any challenging situations .......... oh, and to sometimes race the s..t out of boy racers at the lights I'll take my time to change cars, there's never any rush and there's ALWAYS an opportunity to buy another at some time down the line ...... the world's not short on V8s or V12's for sure My next door neighbour has just changed his 2004 Bentley at 78k miles for a 10 plate at 25k miles, doing his usual few hundred miles a year in it and parking it outside ........ now is that a status complex or what ! His other main car is his Audi S8 ( is it, it's big bugger ) ...................... and his old but beautiful looking Jensen Interceptor might be the alternative car for me BUT I guess that's potentially full of bills if I was to do my usual 12 / 15k miles a year Now a brand new Ls400 to commemorate the 30th anniversary would be a good car for Lexus to produce provided it retained much of it's Old School technology I'd seriously consider buying one of those or sure 19 years in the saddle of a Ls400, so maybe my psyche and ' will ' isn't in bothering to cope with potential car nightmares Thanks for all your help in getting me to this point Malc
  18. Thank you so much guys for your guidance to the Ls600 USA forum comments. I would never have thought to get that sort of detailed complex history on my own endeavours It certainly doesn't seem too have been available anywhere in the UK ( that I have discovered whatever ) Malc
  19. Thank you John, a very very interesting and often quite alarming read So the battery pack is a separate item from the Inverter which is a separate issue from the failing Carbon ? $7000 switch ( presumably from petrol to battery mode ) Clearly any Ls600 I would buy would be long long out of Lexus warranty ( which doesn't seem to cover much of this anyway ,,,,,,,,,,,, at least in the USA) A fearsome read and many owners in the USA just effectively dumping their Ls600 cars coz of the hybrid issues emerging with those extraordinary costs It's a fair warning and one I shall heed, hybrid is good for the planet but maybe not so good for one's pockets It really is little wonder that the then late 1980's to late 90's flagship Ls400 is beginning to be eagerly sought after in some circles mine at 235k miles and only 24 years young in 6 days time looks to be the way to STAY well, until maybe I understand a little more about the Ls430 and Ls460 and some of the 'orrible bills that owners sometimes face with new technology failures Malc
  20. aha, are you maybe suggesting that the Ls600 can just run itself on petrol and ignore the hybrid part of its activity if the batteries go kaput ? Would this likely be possible does anybody know ? or have a view please Thanks Malc
  21. These specialists in the UK can and do repair / replace individual cells in Lexus models other than the Ls600 it would seem ............... and I'm assuming ( I know that's dangerous ) that for some reason, whilst they can other Lexus cars they just cannot with the Ls600 Can you please ask your Hague agent if this applies to the Ls600 too ? Re longevity, I did post the Honest John piece earlier that a 2009 car at 135k miles had suffered the fate in 2017 Malc
  22. I don't know but these guys do actually repair Prius and other car batteries Malc
  23. Gentlemen, re the Ls600 repair / replacement hybrid batteries. I wrote to the web address above yesterday and quickly received this back and so I guess at the prices they are now to purchase you buy your cheap Ls600 and take your chances Malc Re: Contact from HBS Website : I'm thinking to buy a Lexus Ls600 and concerned that the battery welfare and longevity will be an issue for me, purchasing an older car Are these batteries repairable, replaceable economically at the end of normal life ( whatever that is ) ?Thank youMB - Lexus Ls600 Inbox x No - not economically 4-5k by the time Labour is added Kind Regards Richard l Richard Farwell <enquiries@hybridbatterysolutions.co.uk> Oct 19, 2019, 8:18 PM (9 hours ago) to me No - not economically 4-5k by the time Labour is added Kind Regards Richard l
