  1. aaaahhhh if only cars could run OVER potholes rather than just plop into them eh ! the other issue with potholes is that even if you don't see any damage at all to wheel or tyre it's quite likely it's put the wheel alignment out and will cause overall uneven tyre wear or worse whatever and cost you to have the alignment checked and sorted at £30 a time for the fronts alone ........ soon adds up with no one to blame seemingly Malc
  2. many years ago I did this on a dynamo on my Wolseley 16/60, in the dark ages about 50 years ago maybe, cost about 2/6 pence I think then not sure I'm up to that these days tbh Malc
  3. and hopefully the Mk3 too ............. I'll find out Monday BUT there has never been any indication of any pas leak from the unit onto the alternator on mine
  4. Alternator crapped out last night, just as she was gliding into the parking space at our dinner venue 24 years and 227,450 miles too and this the first time an alternator has gone RAC absolutely BRILLIANT ..... assuming the diagnosis is correct, find out Monday ( new serpentine belt fitted recently, well, when the cambelt etc was changed ) The second time an alternator has gone on my Ls400, the first many moons ago, about 17 ? years on my Mk1 Ls400 and on a wet windy night time motorway, M2 or M20 and caused by the earlier PAS leak syndrome onto the unit This failure is probably due to simple " old age " and miles etc ..... but she went very conveniently, if there ever could be a convenient time and place courtesy of RAC Membership a free taxi home, 25 miles and car recovery overnight and taking the car to my indy Monday for repair etc I'll keep you posted, this is maybe a very rare occurrence, an alternator failure ?? any one else had to replace one ? Malc
  5. best wishes ......... I'm still with the Ls400 after nearly 20 years ( 3rd one ) and happy Malc
  6. or maybe try somehow to find the new owner thru' DVLA, Insurers or whatever Malc
  7. wonder who you bought this errant car from, the price paid, service history etc ? can't imagine the 2000 car is a facelift model, this is maybe the very first year of production ? or have you bought another Ls430 now Malc
  8. but a V8 set of 8 is possibly 2+ that figure BUT they do now last maybe 120k miles between changes whereas in ( g ? ) olden times a set of plugs were often changed at each annual service ... going back to the rusty old car days of car engine maintenance Malc
  9. not quite ......... my UCAs from Amayama cost about half this, £250 in total with carriage, Customs Duty VAT etc and of course, manufactured by Toyota in Toyota land too along with the Lexus parts the same I'm afraid it's just the UK main dealer mark-up god bless 'em 😎 Malc
  10. silence is not always golden with EV and the electric bit of hybrid last year on a cruise visiting Bremen I witnessed hearing some ducks being crushed to death by a German electric soundless car in the city centre 😐
  11. and the original paint finish on my 24 years old steed with 227k miles too is brilliant with very little attention with polishing etc always best to leave the Lexus original finish alone if possible imho Malc
  12. bit odd, but I remember a very long time ago checking the DVLA MOT site for your car Paul wonder why I did that ! Malc
  13. did you discover in the end if your's was the one and only Ls460 AWD in the country ? Thanks Malc
  14. hahahahaha, I've never known us to really be ahead of our partners, even tho we may think momentarily we are Malc
  15. I think this was / is standard for the Ls400 ... I remember reading about that many many years ago Malc
  16. yes i quite agree, a lots happened with that thread since i posted on 4th December, some 2 weeks ago ............... hindsight is brilliant Malc
  17. absolutely just about zero noise from the V8 tried and tested Ls400 however, like hearing sheep munching grass at 50 mtrs ☺️ Malc
  18. you could have maybe just stuck the new plates on top of the old that was quite satisfactory for mine when it changed from BCA 3 to a normal regn a while back Malc
  19. the alarm sensor in the Ls400 can in fact be volume manually turned down ( and off ) too ....... maybe yours can too when and if you find one ! Malc
  20. in the Ls400 ............ forum it used to be something metallic in the front centre console holder that would trigger it off might you have similar ? Malc
  21. you were a tad unlucky to find the rust you did and all the serious work you've done and had done will last at least another 10 years / 100k miles she does purr along as quiet as an electric car too when just gently strolling amongst pedestrians and dogs, you have to toot them when you want them gone and they haven't realised they're just about touching your bumper A good write up, thank you Malc
  22. hahahahaha, been here so long I've forgotten how i got here ........... think i stumbled upon it not long into my first ownership of a Ls400 about 20 years ago now but I may be wrong, the years just trundle by when you're enjoying yourself so much with the best car on this planet Malc
  23. just got the new clean MOT with the plates supplied " name free " from Jersey Malc
