  1. I read all of the above ........ then there's the little niggling things that don't seem to be in a normal ( Lexus ) service schedule that the indy will probably do as a matter of course, like suitably greasing the caliper sliders and the like at appropriate times ....... rather than relying on the punter to have to replace the hugely expensive calipers at some time due to seized pins maybe just a thought Malc
  2. are the power steering ( long ) cooler pipes at the rear of the radiator weeping through ? Malc
  3. that seems to be the aircon unit others will advise you more detail I'm sure Malc
  4. nor having an old car means the owner doesn't have any money Malc
  5. What a bugger, sorry to hear this Is she still driveable and doors open and close ok ? if it happens to be a write-off for insce purposes and you want to keep the car and have it repaired at a sensible price , assuming there's nothing structural affected, then see about buying the salvage off the insurers and pocketing a few £££ into the deal if it's just the two doors then you might be lucky with a sensibly priced non-insurance repair, even though the insurers pay you out ( eventually ) Malc
  6. I've been saying this forever, well, maybe just 19 years ( I think ! ) Malc
  7. lop £1000 off for the DHP wheels and clear lenses to get the car back to nigh original, then buy her I would suggest, I wouldn't buy her otherwise for sure that's what happened to mine 8 years ago although the transformation figure then was £500 difference I think ! £2250 with 68k miles looks about right to me ☺️ Malc
  8. take care insuring with these guys I had a very unacceptable ( to me but quite acceptable to them ) fully comprehensive experience with them and i would NOT touch them with even your bargepole ever again ! Malc
  9. I remember these were essential when i first noticed them ( about 65 years ago as a kiddy ) driving the then country roads up through the Pennines into the Lake District The fog or mist across the moors was so dense in those days that without the new and innovative " cats eyes " it would have been impossible to achieve even the steady 15 mph to just get along anywhere It's probably like that these days anyway in the Lake District with the traffic congestion Malc
  10. Guys, I would never usually do this BUT there's a Dec 1990 Ls400 for sale with a current MOT on t'bay this must be just about the oldest and rarest Ls400 in the Kingdom right now I have absolutely no knowledge of the car or it's seller nor interest in it ( or have I really ) Just browsing today and it popped up It must be so so rare ☺️ Malc
  11. yes, I find that too and what's more, with your Mk3 it's only the Toyota battery that's properly shaped at the base to fit in the holder ! Malc
  12. amongst all sorts of other stuff I also replaced the front Drop Links, that sorted those ' clunks ' what Ls400 is yours J4cK ? I ask because the Mk3 one's are now only seemingly available one-sided, your mechanic will have to buy a pair the same and cut and weld .......... simple job if he's competent Malc
  13. I find these days I'm having to wear non vision adjusted spectacles for night driving to lower the glare potential from other cars and i sometimes have to use main beam too when driving as the dipped effect seems too low a light-up for much of the nighttime non-lit roads Malc Am I just getting too old or is the road lighting and other road users headlights getting more challenging .................. for everyone else too I wonder
  14. not mutually exclusive by any means ......... I use mine as a runaround and look after her too ...... most sensible owners would maybe I bought mine off ACLex on here 8 years ago ( at 16 years young and with FLSH ) at the same mileage as yours and £1400 today as a potential write-off ( a recent door smack ) and at 224k miles Saga value her at £1400 ..... the FLSH stopped as soon as I bought her no idea what your car is worth at all Malc
  15. it's always been said that a true auction will find the best price from those seeking the object at that time provided the auction is advertised well do you ever watch the Bangers and Mash programme ? a real time auction both with people and on-line ( and therefore global I guess ) with expert auctioneers in " classics " maybe ask those experts for their opinion if you are really quite intent on moving her on she does look good whatever Malc ...................... good luck
  16. might it possibly be that the set you have fitted is purposefully for a distinctly hard precise ride .... as in racing ..... rather than for supreme leisurely wafting along comfort ? just a thought Malc
  17. Mr A ...... wouldn't Breakdown and Recovery cover all these aspects do you think ? I'm sure my RAC all embracing cover is Breakdown and Recovery termed ..... and Recovery being the pertinent point where breakdown isn't applicable .............. surely Malc
  18. if you put this entry into the Ls400 etc forum specifically, you will probably get more useful and informative responses I think😉 Malc
  19. but on the Is300h you actually seem to need TWO different spare wheels sizes ............. just how ludicrous has design concept now reached Malc
  20. if logic prevails, which of course it probably doesn't, then when you get the County Court summons you could just explain the 8 weeks appeal process and the fee has already been paid, just not allocated correctly by DART .............. it's just that the DART technology isn't fit for purpose ....... and you being an " expert witness " in this matter wonder what the Judge ( is it ?) will say ? ........ Life no doubt, 12 years minimum ...... hard labour, building the new crossing at Hoo Malc ................ sorry i jest here when it could of course become NOT a laughing matter ......... apologies upfront
  21. what on earth's the point of buying a car you could never use without seeing it drop £10k depreciation the first time it smelt rain ! does the dirt on that front tyre add or detract from it's £15k " value " I wonder Malc
  22. I hadn't realised some cars have differing size wheels on the axles ........ no space saver, no spare wheel, no room to even put one even Lexus seems to have stooped to this stupidity ( in my mind ) in design it seems ......... why on earth are people buying into these ridiculous design quirks I wonder Malc
  23. I've been buying my 4 replacement Toyota produced Upper Control Arms from Amayama in Japan directly on-line After carriage and Customs duty and VAT and fees they work out at about £250 each corner, which is 50% of the UK Lexus / Toyota supplied parts Cambelt and pulleys and waterpump generally needs changing at 10 yrs / 100k miles and a Gates kit should be fine .... . it's an 8 hr job ! steer clear of BluePrint for UCAs, the one I fitted ( £250 ) only lasted 45k miles, the originals last between 160 and 200+ k miles depending on driving stance and the nearside stuff often wears out faster it seems There's a mountain of data here about the Ls400, study and reflect and just enjoy your wonderful car Malc
