  1. One lass on the ACNZA Forums has issues with VVTi after her mechanic put the wrong grade oil in it. It think he put good old 20w50 in Put some 5w30 or 10w40 in & that should help.
  2. Get a "Z" or "L" edition. The base models are poos. Also look for one with an LSD. You'll find the codes on the chassis tag on the firewall. A01B is a LSD, A01A is a single spinner. http://www.japanvehi...ltezza/main.htm http://www.japanvehi.../equipRS200.htm The link Sixusel put up is for an AS200 which has a different engine to the RS200 and 40hp less but overall that's a pretty accurate review. They're great cars.
  3. The drain & filler plug are on the RH (drivers) side of the gear box. Not a job I'd want to do under axle stands. I used a hoist at work. You'd require 2 pairs to get the car level so all the oil will drain out & a hand pump to put it in. Diff is a little easier & from memory requires a hex drive/allen key. Have a read of this thread for oil recommendations http://www.lexusowne...wtopic=67162&st
  4. I put 43L of 98pulp in the Altezza the other week which gave me @ 3/4 of a tank. Used about 1/2 a tank on the open road & the rest commuting to work. I got 483km (300 miles) from that which equates to @ 11L per 100km or in the old speak 27mpg. As for cost it was NZ$1.86 (£0.88) per L
  5. If you're clocking up 400 miles a week that going to cost you a bit in an Altezza RS200. If it's all open road driving then a full tank should just last you. I can't believe I'm going to say this but I think a diesel Mondeo or Golf would be better suited to your needs. Definitely more economical to run but won't be as fun to drive but... As for parts, most suspension, brake & panel bits are the same so you shouldn't have any hassles sourcing them locally.
  6. The difference in power between the RS & IS is due to them having completely different engines, nothing to do with emissions in this case. Oh and the current JDM RX-8 only makes 235ps in 6MT form & the auto is good for 215ps. The UK spec 6MT makes 231ps. I think you're getting the RX-7 Series 6 mixed up with the RX-8 as they made about 250hp.
  7. What's wrong with your throttle body? Could just be a new TPS (throttle position sensor) is all that's needed. Common enough problem on the 3SGE.
  8. Typical used cars salesman bullsh*#t. Got all his facts all arse about face. It's just a JDM IS200 with the same 1GFE 2L 6cly The AS300 only came in Gita/Sports wagon form in Japan.
  9. I think I may have found an answer why Denso plugs fail. Most people assume all iridium plugs are long life. NGK Iridium IX last 60K km, Standard Denso Iridium last 100K but Denso Iridium Power are only good for 20,000 km That makes them a very expensive plug compared to the NGK equivalents.
  10. Using fully synthetic oil gives better protection. A 5w30 fully synthetic oil will out preform a 10w40 semi synthetic in every way. It's do do with what the oil is made from rather than it's viscosity. (I could have also given 0w40 fully synthetic as an option but it's generally more expensive than 5w30.) http://www.opieoils....tics-better.pdf http://www.opieoils....-vs-Mineral.pdf http://www.opieoils....sconception.pdf

    Rs200 Key

your dealer is a Knob then and talking utter rubbish, x2As they're not transponder keys any half decent locksmith should be able to cut you one. They can trace the original key. They don't need numbers if they have a sample. Try here -> http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclub/index.php?showtopic=9792
  12. This type of set up will convert the speaker out to an RCA. An Australian guy on the Altezza club forums was the first I saw to set his system up like this. He didn't buy a loom but made it himself. You wont blow your speakers LOL (I've got @125W going into my factory front speakers & they're still alive, surprisingly. Got to get my Rainbow components in there one day)
  13. The IS300 which runs the same 2JZ-GE takes 5.4L so I can't see it being any different than that. -> http://bahamutcars.f...00_gasoline.pdf Semi Synthetic 10w40 would be fine although if you can afford a fully synthetic 5w30 it would provide better protection.
  14. Noise suppression is the main difference between the two. The Hi-Power Silent will give the best sound IMO. With the N1 style you run the risk of it sounding tinny, especially the older they get. http://www.fensport.co.uk/Parts/Model_63/Category_4/2277 http://www.prolex-uk.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=161_212&products_id=746
  15. He probably hasn't noticed that the cable you've found hooks an aftermarket stereo up to the factory amp. Don't think there's many people running this cable. Most just by-pass the amp & run everything from the new head unit or get a more powerful aftermarket amp. Be interesting to see what you think of this set up.
  16. Not the greatest sq on that vid but it does sound more like injectors than lifters to me.
  17. Rear mufflers are the same. Anything forward of that is different. The 3SGE engine sits slightly lower in the engine bay so a chunky brace like an HKS Kansai may have clearance issues with the 1GFE air filter box. There's a thread on what fits here -> http://z4.invisionfr...?showtopic=9557 As Monster-Mat said you don't need a torque damper on a street car. You'd be better of spending that money on something else like a stiffer rear sway bar.
  18. Just got some EBC Green Stuff pads

  19. I'd go with an Apexi or K&N pod filter. They offer the best flow & filtration. HKS & other foam pods flow really well but don't filter much. That twin filter eBay thing would probably decrease power. It's a black art designing intake systems, especially ones that increase power. You'd be better off sticking with a K&N panel in the factory air box IMO.
  20. All depends on what parts you're looking at. Engine parts are different (apart from spark plugs). SXE10 runs a 2L 4cyl 3SGE engine. The AS200 Altezza still uses the GXE10 chassis prefix & 1GFE engine. 90% of suspension & body parts are the same. Pay to ask here first before ordering anything if you're unsure.
  21. If they're making a noise then it's time to replace them. Pretty easy job for someone with a bit of mechanical knowledge or cheap enough to have your mechanic change at your next service Looks like the larger one runs the water pump & alternator and the smaller one your air con. http://www.toyodiy.c...AEPVK_1605.html
  22. If you have a look under lifters here -> http://www.toyodiy.c...EFVKQ_1302.html you'll see they list options for different heights to compensate for wear. On the 3SGE they have different thickness shims which makes more sense. So if yours are getting noisy the only real way to fix it is to have them replaced :( Not a cheap fix I would imagine. You could try an oil additive like Lucus oil stabiliser in the mean time.
  23. Sorry I didn't read your post properly. The example I gave was for filling a radiator from empty. As Ormi said there's a header/overflow tank located under the air intake where you can top up from
  24. Yep through the cap is the the only way. Make sure you have the motor running & heater on when you're pouring the water in. A good trick a mechanic friend showed me to get all the air out of the system is to full up a 2L plastic coke bottle with water then put it neck down into the radiator neck. This make a new high point in the cooling system & all the air will rise to it. You may have to full the bottle up a few times. Keep doing this until the radiator fans come on. When they come on it means the thermostat has opened & there's no air trapped behind it that could potentially stop it from opening.
  25. How wide are the rims? My guess they would be at least 9.5" to fit 275 on. You're not going to get those under the guards of an IS easily.
