  1. I suppose to say it's more than the car's worth is daft really because it's always down to how much it's worth to you. I only intended to keep this one for a year but it's been five! I paid £1,500 for it with 107,000 on the clock, it's now done 132,000 and has cost me about £200 in repairs, not bad eh? I'm probably putting it on ebay this week, no idea how much it's worth but I'm guessing £300-£400. Anyway, I seem to have set my mind on a later one so no trying to talk me out of it! Does anyone know what to avoid on the later models? (apart from possibly air suspension)
  2. Well that's a very good question. I suppose it's just that the work needed will cost more than the car's worth, plus having a later one seems like a good idea if I can get one with good history.
  3. I've had my 93 LS for 5 years now and it's just sailed through another MOT but I'm seriously thinking of buying a later one as it does need a few things sorting out. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of say a 99-2000 model, what should I be looking for etc. I saw this one on ebay today but as I had to go to a wedding I missed it but was seriously tempted. What sort of price should I be looking to pay. I'm in no hurry. Thanks Phil http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330783550467?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
  4. Never, ever! In fact I can't believe that even part worn tyres are still legal. Like others have said, tyres are one of the most important parts you'll ever put on a car. Not worth the risk in my opinion having remoulds or part worn.
  5. Well I'm kind of at their mercy really as no one else sells them. I've looked on line without any results. Maybe I should phone a Lexus dealer direct tomorrow to get a price from them. I assumed going through Toyota I'd get the same price. I phoned Lexus Guildford today and they quoted me: Pins £11.88 each + VAT. Bushes and dust covers as a kit £51.65 + VAT. So about £25 less than Toyota so I'll ask them why the price difference when I pick them up. Fitted the new parts this morning, all done in less than an hour but sadly the knocking sound still remains. I'm not too bothered as the parts needed replacing anyway as the rubber bushes and dust covers were knackered. Any suggestions as to what to look for next? It's definately from the near side caliper.

  8. That was quick!! I'll pick some up tomorrow and see what happens. Ordered 4 new pins, bushes and dust covers today from my local Toyota dealer. £145 in total so not too painful. They'll take a couple of days to arrive. Be interesting to see if it solves the problem.

  10. Having been away working for some weeks I had to SORN the car as I didn't have time to get an MOT and tax. Thankfully it's just sailed through again for the 5th year running. I've had the "knocking" coming from one of the front calipers for some time but it's usually goes after re packing with grease. This time it doesn't seem to be working. The black plastic bushes are completely shot and I was wondering if anyone has had the problem resolved by replacing them. Should I also replace the pins or is it time for a new caliper? Cheers Phil
  11. Personally I wouldn't just let that go. You'd be surprised at what can be achieved by asking to speak (in person) to a superior officer and explaining the situation. Worth a try surely?
  12. After having had my bonnet come crashing down on my head today it's now my turn to buy some. And man did it hurt!!!
  13. Couldn't agree more. I've actually considered a Kia Sportage but length wise it's just too short for my work. Which brings me back to something I said ages ago. I wish, like Mercedes and BMW, Lexus had made a big estate! Oh God yes, something like the Chrysler 300c with ls 400/430 running gear would be fantastic. I had a Datsun 280c estate and borrowed a Toyota Crown estate back in the early 80s - cracking cars apart from rotting like pears! Not to everyone's taste that big Chrysler estate but I think it looks fantastic. Didn't Toyota make the Camry in an estate? Years ago we were in Canada and rented a Camry, excellent car!

  15. I did notice that but didn't say anything in case I sounded picky. Shame Kia don't use wood trim, if they did you wouldn't be able to tell them and Lexus apart!!! Are Kia self assemble?
  16. Lexus have really gone down in my estimation. Look at the steering wheel in the last picture! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-LS-400-4-0-auto-/360426705237?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item53eb1b1155
  17. I guy where I work works on early VW vans, some worth nearly 30K. Each to their own but I know what I'd rather drive.
  18. Oh well, hopefully they'll arrive tomorrow and we'll get it up and have a look.
  19. In that case hopefully the parts will fit.
  20. Greetings, can anyone answer this. I've just ordered two sections for my exhaust that came from an M reg car and mine is an L. Do you think they'll be the same? It's the pieces that join the rear of the cats back. No silencer boxes just the two Lambda sensors. I think they said their one is a 96 and mine is a 93, although I'm not sure M was 96. Thanks Phil
  21. 20p to repair mine! In fact I've still got spares as the capacitors came in 5's Let me know if you want them, I'll put them in the post. Phil
  22. That was the cuase of my light coming on which I discovered after I checked the pads!!
  23. Had the same thing with my Vauxhall, turned out to be a tyre with uneven wear.
