  1. itll be the radar sensor... Its located behind/part of the front Lexus L badge on the grill. could have a look at the connections, give them a clean up and go from there.
  2. All in my opinion of course (thats why I wrote it?!) but skimping out on tyres is a mugs game. Ill stick to my continental Premium contact 2 on the LS400, Bridgestone Potenza s001 on the LS460 & Yokohama AD08r on my MR2 Turbo with 450bhp
  3. I went with my uncle and bought an LS400 off Baz in 2012, he is a genuine guy, not a trader, I think hes just an enthusiast thats got ants in his pants and needs to change cars often for a bit of exceitement.. Not many people will understand that (I certainly dont, I keep my cars for a LONG time)... Anyway like I say my uncle bought an LS400 from Baz... my uncle has ants in his pants too and a month later sold the LS400 to me as he wanted cash quick to buy something else, I bought it to do a few bits to it and make a profit, 6 months later I sold the LS400 back to Baz hahaha
  4. Well I put 1495 in but pulled around £15000 back, so definitely worth it and now, touch wood, all the common failure points of the 460 have been covered. The LS400 requires minimal money per year, I think last year it had the Cam belt done and that was it. I might throw a few hundred at it this year on the paintwork though as the roof is peeling it's lacquer.
  5. Genuine Lexus warranty.. When I bought the car (private) it was eligible for a Lexus warranty as it had just been serviced (by Lexus), it was under 10 years old and under 140000 miles. The cost for one year was £1495
  6. Cheers mikey 👍, the warranty was definitely worth it
  7. I agree, being non optional would be silly... It can be extremely useful, but it can be annoying also ( narrow lanes on the motorway in roadworks!!!)
  8. Ah yes, you have to enable it each time you start the car, so as a default it is turned off. Even with it turned on it wouldnt really get the chance to enable itself in city trafic as it takes time to lock onto the white lines and also as soon as you brake it turns off also Radar cruise can also be turned off and conventional cruise control can be enabled. I saw an old post on here saying the ls460 only could be used with radar cruise and it was irritating. But with a forward push of the cruise stalk, it turns off radar and enables normal mode :)
  9. 2007, its on about 97,000. dendonc - yeah it does, it steers you back into the center of the road if you veer over the line. Also if you activate the radar cruise it'll lock onto the car infront/monitor the road and steer you around bends (if they are slight)
  10. brake actuator is basically a servo, its common for them to click when broke and its REALLY annoying on such a quiet car. Lexus said it was normal and took me out in another customers car with 90k miles to try and convince me it was normal.. however his car didnt click, and even had it clicked, it is still abnormal behavouior.. in the end i got my actuator changed and no more annoying clicking. full LSH, is full lexus service history.. cheers
  11. thats not the case here, most of the problems came after doing around 4k in 2 months, including a trip to germany. It has full LSH also, its just suffered from the "common" ls460 issues due to reduced quality over the initial LS models
  12. Suspension airbags, brake actuator, window regulators, power steering rack. All done under warranty, but it was a hassle getting the work done, and getting them to acknowledge there were issues was a nightmare, even with me telling them what parts needed replacing and proofing they were eligible to be replaced under warranty. Im fortunate that im a mechanic myself so know what im on about, I feel that a regular guy in the same position wouldnt have stoood a chance. I use the ls400 every single day, I use the ls460 a couple of times a month... the ls400 is on LPG which justifies that even more.
  13. I've had the LS460 15 months now, so thought id share some of my favourite photos from the past year. It's the SE-L model and includes the only optional extra of the heated steering wheel which is lovely to have on the cooler days. Ill not get too much into the pro's and cons of the ls460 v's the older models (I still have a mk3 LS400 that I use everyday), But the LS460 is no way near as bulletproof. Its been back in the dealership quite a bit and each journey you never set off in full confidence that everything will be ok like the LS400. If I gave the LS460 the continuous 'abuse' that the LS400 gets then I think the 460 would end up being a big paperweight whereas the 400 can take everything in its stride and then some. However it does feel way more special, it gets the looks, it handles great, it has the pace, it has all the toys and no matter how much of a headache it had been I love it! anyway, the photos....
  14. It'll be the anti roll bar bushes that are drying out. Easy to sort, 2 bolts each side to remove the bracket, take the bush off, lube it up with a lithium based grease... clean the anti roll bar, refit bush, refit bracket. enjoy the silence.
  15. Theres a proximity sensor that is cable tied to a support underneath the center console. Open the center console lids, take out the center console storage, youll then see the sensor near where the cup holders are, cut the 2 cable ties, then simply turn the dial on the sensor anti clockwise with a flat blade screwdriver, re-attatch with new cable ties etc... After owning my ls400 for 7 years, the alarm recently decided to go off whenever it wanted for some reason, so I knocked the sensitivity down a couple of clicks and its been great so far.
  16. If you think Leeds are a joke, try Lexus Sheffield! well, dont because youll be even more dissapointed
  17. Yes I guess everyone is different and its an expensive car to own and keep if you dont gel with it. by the way, can the LS460 be remapped? I'ts not something ive ever looked into
  18. I do agree that the throttle input is a bit keen, so I fitted an Apexi throttle controller to mine... Its 7 stage adjustable at the push of a button so you can have it either feather the throttle smoothly, or be extra keen so it just launches....
  19. I did a quick Google and it seems the display can read in psi from the images i've seen. It's just a matter of finding out how hmmmm
  20. Oh and my ls460 reads the pressure in bar, how can I get the display to read in psi? Cheers
  21. Before you go replacing the sensor, start with the easy things first... - have you tried tightening the sensors collar? 11mm socket - Have you had the wheel place take the tyre off and check the rubber seal on the sensor. While you're there check the seating face of the alloy wheel where the valve sits, there may be corrosion or paint bubbling not allowing the valve to seal -Replace the schrader valve in the sensor A few of my tyres were losing pressure a free weeks back, I just nipped the collars up with an 11mm socket, job done
  22. Heres my 2p on which struts to go for: Im quite a follower of OEM only parts, however I cant help but think sometimes you have to try non oem just because of cost. An example is the upper front wishbones on an LS400, they're £350??? from Lexus and its just an arm with a balljoint and 2 bushes! I bought cheap £35 each ones and theyve lasted about 5 years/60,000 miles so far, and they passed the MOT 2 days ago too. My theory was that if they lasted a month, its lesson learned and to just go OEM and not much money lost. If they last a year they've done ok and just buy some more at that price, renew them yearly...(its an easy job) Then we get to the LS460 struts, aftermarket at £750, its still alot of money, so surely a £750 product cant be such bad quality, and from price comparison to other shocks made by manufacturers like jag, range rover, bmw, the OEM lexus are expensive, why? lexus pricing? they surely cant be 3 - 4 times the quality of the aftermarket struts Id be tempted to buy the cheap ones.. be a guinea pig for all us LS460 owners :p
  23. Thanks alot for the video, I thought one of my shocks was knocking, but after I had a look under it yesterday it turns out to be an ill fitting undershield near the sump. Im up for a ls460 meet
  24. Thanks, thats great... did they give any indication to how they concluded they were "past their best" I guess then us guys with LS460's could have a go at testing/evaluating our shocks ourselves before taking it to dealerships cheers
  25. hi, which dealership did you take it to? I think i may have an issue with my shocks, and as it seems the lexus dealership you took yours to have decent knowloedge of if theyre past their best, then id like to goto the same dealership anyway, good work so far :)
