  1. I would be very surprised if there were 10s of thousands MK 4 LS400s but would not of thought a million plus and cars in this condition I would have thought would be in the low hundreds. Very sad about the demise of your low mileage LS. Mike
  2. I spotted this last night as I'm still getting alerts each day from ebay when a 400 or 430 is newly listed. I thought about posting a link, but still a bit unsure about what's allowed on here? Anyway, with regard to final price, if you check the Q&A at the bottom, somebody is suggesting that £5k is too much for it, I'm guessing they have been told the reserve. As you say - an interesting watch. The value of anything is what you or as in this case what the seller believes it to be. Its not like a £10 note which has a definate value. Personaly I think its worth every penny of £5k. It has a FSH, one owner and this car new was I think somewhere around £55,000. If you buy the car and keep it for 10 years doing say 10K miles per year then its costing you around £500 per year in depreciation to drive in the most comfortable car on the road. Bear in mind that by then these cars will be considered Classic Cars and so your car with only 135K on the clock will still have a decent residual value. I would also spend £1000 converting it to LPG, saving even more money. No its not my car but I did give it serious consideration but I am still in love with mine. The Mk4 by most is considered the bees knees of the LS400 and this is only 35000 from being brand spankers new, its a no brainer for me. Mike But if you converted it to LPG the car would not be considered a "Classic Car" since it would not be to original spec. They can still considered Classic Cars. LPG is often found in classic cars these days and you can always take it out. I used to own a Reliant Scimitar and belonged to the owners club and many were converted no one ever said that this took away its classic car status but they were against messing around with the body work or putting larger engines in. Mike

  4. Reminds me when I saw a Granada and a (old style) Mini meet at a cross-roads, that was the day 25 years ago when I decided big cars were the best place to be. Just t ook me a while to progress from an Escort up to Lexus. What a great journey though!! Mike
  5. Yesterday the Government had talks with Insrance companies and the rising price of premiums. There was alot of pre publicity but nothing has come from how the talks went. I dont think you need to be a neuclear scientist to know how it went. Mike
  6. There has to be an error when filling the form in. I'm only 64 and I have never been questioned to being to young for any car I have ever had and I have had some pretty nice cars but my Lexie is the best. Mike
  7. \Excess is £100 voluntary and £350 compulsory. 9 years or more no claims. Protected NCB. EXCESS Yet another con. Mike
  8. We used to have another forum member on here from Reading I know he has sold his LS400 but he may pick this thread up, it would be interesting to see what he was paying. I am insured with Chaucer Ins which is On line and through Go Compare. Mike
  9. I am sadly nearly twice your age with full NCB and I pay £300 full comp inclu NCB protection and my wife is also listed as a driver. I live on the Hants/Berks border so risk should be around the same as yours. I cant believe some of the stupid amounts quoted these days for Insurance, have a look at some of the other posts I have left on insurance. Good luck with both finding a car and insurance. Mike
  10. I got bitten by the Lexus LS400 MK IV bug nearly two years ago. Had Profess gas convert it in a day for £1150 which includes a full tank worth £50 of LPG, this is the second car I have had converted by them and I wouldnt go anywhere else now. They lend you a car for the day so a nice day out in Wales as well. I have never had a problem with any of the systems fitted by them or Duelfuel in Woking. Dualfuel want over 2K and need the car for at least a week. I have driven on LPG for 15+ years now and had all my cars converted myself. Be very careful about cars that are already converted because there are some real disastor stories out there. The MOT in 2012 includes checking LPG systems and many will fail. You also need a certificate for your insurance co increasingly more. Also check your exisiting Ins Company will accept you converting to LPG. All that said you are then paying around 70p a litre for driving in what can only be described as pure bliss. Mike
  11. There are 31,035,791 cars (DVLA own figures cars only not Lorries Buses etc) on our roads so that rakes in £1551789550.00 thats over 15 billion £s, Its just pure B******s these theives are driven by one thing and thats GREED pure and simple and until the government bring this Legal requirement inhouse as Road Tax is then it will remain a licence to thieve and print money for these greedy theives. The above figure is just what they take in the extra £50 they charge us for all these millions of accidents that are taking place and does not take into account the actual premium we pay and does not take into account premiums paid by lorries, caoches, buses and all the other vehicles that travel on our roads. In fact the figures are so ludicrously high I am amazed that we are able to use our roads at all because if we are to believe the figures put out by the DVLA and insurance companies there must be so many accidents its a wonder we are able to drive anywhere at all as all the roads should be blocked by accidents. You can see why so many people risk not having any insurance at all but then if your insurance premium is in the thousands wheres the point in having insurance in the first place? Thats it I'm off to a dark quiet room. Mike
  12. I dont have an LS430 but in the 400 you set that sort of thing out in the Set Up Menu. Mike
  13. I can't understand the insurance logic! Your car is not group 19.......it's group 48, whilst my 52 plate 4.3ltr is (fortunately) a much lower rating as a group 35. The relative repair costs make a nonsense of the way they reckon they work the groups out. Can you not get it insured under classic car insurance? It also makes a mockery as no matter how much your LS Mk 1,2,3,4 is damaged or worth they will right it off as beyond economical repair no matter what the damage, so their arguments on the costs are high because of the high costs of parts and labour hold no water at all. Compared to insurance companies ***** Turpin was a saint and extreamly fair to all those he robbed. Mike
  14. Nope. Been asked but its never been an issue. If somone could steal the car without the keys the guy would be an absolute genious and should be employed by the motor industry to strengthen the security on their cars. Mike
  15. I wasnt keen on the wood & leather steering wheel as they are in certain weathers very slippery but did like the gearknob. I bought one off good ol fleabay. It took a while as most of them came up for around £80+ and also they were in the States which meant high P&P and the import duties eventualy got one for £30 incl P&P. Mike
  16. It does in fact say that the disc must be returned. It may seem/be unfair but I suppose the car is either off the road or on the road. The following from Directgov website: "If you have a vehicle that is taxed and not insured which you will be keeping off road you need to return the tax disc. You can do this on a V14 (including nil value discs) and declare SORN at the same time." These things can be easily overlooked when staring at government forms. I can do it without even trying. Still you havent sent the disc back so I think a public flogging is in order or the taking off your Lexus away by a shady government department the choice is yours. Mike
  17. Here Here. Had two done by Profess now LS 400 & Mercedes E220 and both have been completely trouble free both done in a day, they lent me a car so had a nice day out in Wales at the same time. Mike
  18. He also says that his car has the Luxuary Pack option. Was this an option around in 1995? Am I correct in thinking he is quoting LS 600 BHP? Mike
  19. You think thats bad read this wally and how poeticly he describes all about where he trades from but nothing about the car. Care in the comunity I think. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-Lexus-LS-400-4-0-Auto-MAROON-PX-Taken-Swap-/250973939746?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item3a6f366822 Mike
  20. Well done Mark I think you may have solved it as the alarm started going off at random last night, so Instead of keeping the neighbours awake last night I just locked her with the door key, I have just tried the sunroof, fully open/closed and tilit several times but it hasnt cleared the beeping. To cold to sit out there today to sort so will try again once temp comes above freezing. Any idea where the actual sensors are fitted? Thanks for all the replies. Mike
  21. Well she had her service with just Oil change Filter etc. My garage (non Lexus) checked her over for any battery connection problems and everything is 100% OK. So not only are the beeps a mystery the completely dead battery of some weeks back also remains a mystery and if there was a dodgy battery it would certainly have gone down in the freezing conditions of the last week or so. So if you have any other ideas as to what it might be it would be very helpful. Have emailed Lexus direct to ask them. Mike
