  1. We could set up a special charity account with Coutts & Co Another thought we could always contact and ask Sir Bob to arrange a Lexus Aid Concert 2011 Mike As Sir Bob used to have one it might be a goer So he does have some taste then. Mike
  2. Dont forget to factor in the depreciation on the replacement car. This is often forgotton. I get the feeling you are gradualy talking yourself out of selling the LS. Mike
  3. Just seen on Sky News The OFT have anounced they are to investigate the high rise in Car Insurance premiums. Should be interesting but dont hold your breath. Mike
  4. What an absolute beauty, you must be very proud. Love the colour. You will be smiling for years to come and if you need another good friend drop me an email. Enjoy. Mike
  5. Mind you, at least windscreen cover is included in private insurance, Yes but you have to pay the first £70 of that these days. Most screens at trade are a lot cheaper than that, once again greediness of the corp fat cats at work. Mike
  6. Hi Graham, dont know how they found the code, but believe they removed the radio and obtained the serial numbers off the radio and obtained the code that way somehow. We have tried the last three VIN numbers. Spoke to two Local lexus dealers but waiting for them to get back to him, but was told by a local toyota/Lexus specialist that there is a master passcode, the audio guys have been in business for years and are good at what they do so was suprised they could not fix it for him. We must have tried over 50 times, getting locked after every 9th attempt, then clearing the help and starting again. Have also tried pulling the fuse for the radio and leaving for a good 10 mins and retrying but to no avail. Phil I had to put a mastercode into mine when Lexus fitted a new battery earlier this year. My code number is wriiten in the owners handbook. Good place to look if you have one. Mike
  7. I renewed by LS400 1998 last month over 60 live in the middle of the Hampshire countryside £307 FC with an excess (£200) Mike
  8. I certainly don't want to turn this into a 'Party Political Broadcast' as I have worked in financial markets for the past 25 years, but completely agree with Mike. It is pure greed by the various companies involved, nothing more and nothing less, with companies such as car insurer Admiral already forecast to make almost £300 million of profit next year. No doubt this greed also extends to other vital services we cannot do without, such as water, gas and electricity, where it is almost morally obscene that our news seems to be filled with stories of ever constant price rises to levels that ordinary people can no longer afford in these difficult economic times, yet where Scottish & Southern Energy report pre-tax profits of £2.1 billion last year, Centica (gas) £2.8 billion, National Grid (Elec) £2.6 billion. When is enough enough and will car insurance go the same way, as we have no choice but to buy it, whatever the cost ? ........OK, soapbox away now ! Thanks for the profit figures. When is enough enough and will car insurance go the same way, as we have no choice but to buy it, whatever the cost ? Its already happening. When will we as a country turn round and say a big loud NO Mike
  9. But if the insurance is funded by taxation how can you implement a No Claims Discount for individuals. Sorry to sort of hijack original thread but I'm intrigued by how this idea could ever work. By car owners paying Insurance premiums as they do at present. Straight across the board taxation is unfair and penalises those who do not own vehicles. When did you last hear of an motor insurance co going busy dispite their bleating about young driver etc Mike
  10. Thank you for clarifying what you meant. I honestly think that if that was implemented it would be a terrible move. Everyone being insured for damage to their own cars would surely not provide any incentive to drive sensibly if you know that any damage will be rectified at no cost to you. I could possibly agree with 3rd Party insurance by the Government because drivers would not want to damage their own cars. I can just see it with fully comp......guy has a tatty rear wing so just reverse into another car in a carpark and claim on government insurance for a nice new shiny rear wing. I wouldnt get rid of the No Claims Bonus either. That would take care of that problem. The trouble is no matter what system you put in place either by the government or privately someone will always find a way of dubiously making a claim for damage. All those things you mention are done on a daily basis now. There is allot of money to be made out of Motor insurance, if there wasn't there wouldn't be so many wanting to get in on the act. Your premiums are high because the Insurance companies are just plain greedy. Mike
  11. Regarding insurance, the ONLY requirement of "the law of this land" is for Third Party insurance. Fire and Theft or Fully Comp (own vehicle damage) are optional "extras" sold by Insurance providers but are not a legal requirement. I dont think you understood what I put but to clarify I would do away with Third Party insurance and have comprehensive insurance which is supplied by the government. Mike
  12. You make some good points but I can't see how your 1st point would be workable. Are you saying that everyone should pay a tax to cover 3rd party insurance and if so who would be covered by it and what would the criteria be? I firmly believe that cyclists should have to be insured too. With regards to your final point, it would make very little difference to the cost of fuel (maybe .5p/ltr.) but would ensure that it was paid by everyone using our roads...including drivers from other countries who currently pay nothing to use our roads. It would also make it fairer for all motorists as the mileage covered and engine size would be reflected in the amount paid. As I have said before and will keep saying, when something is a requirement by the law of this land it should be provided by the government and thats all of it not just the Third Party element. I agree with you where bicycles are concerned they should also carry insurance and I would also include Road Tax and be fitted with number plates. 4. Insurance quotes based on actual accident statistics, and not "size of engine" or "it was £50k new, yes we know it's worth £2k now but it was still a £50k car". Here Here. Mike
  13. Another senior moment. Mike Not quite a senior moment! According to the w/shop manual, removal of the bumper is needed to access all the fixing bolts for the wing! Medication is working then whobloodyray. Mike
  14. We could set up a special charity account with Coutts & Co Another thought we could always contact and ask Sir Bob to arrange a Lexus Aid Concert 2011 Mike
  15. Are you going to spread the exspense over a period of time or are you financially endowed enough to be able to fork out for it all in one go? Mike
  16. Heres a link to the United states of a Miracle removing a Fender hope this helps. Mike http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=58281
  17. Well if the repairers were going to be held responsible they would have been well p****d off as there was no car to repair. I would love to see the accounts of insurance companies repairers and all the others involved when we have an accident laid bare for us all to see. Mike
  18. i wish !!! would pay my mortgage plus nice holiday.i got 2004 430 lpg(much better !!) When my Jeep was written off by a frisky 16 ton truck that tried to mount it I had a like for like policy and was given an Alfa Romeo (95 miles on the clock) with a 2.5 litre tractor engine in it. I found out that had I have wanted to hire one it would have cost me £275 a day plus so much per mile after the first 100 miles each day. I kept it for 6 weeks while they haggeled over a Jeep which I wanted £3000 for and they wanted to pay me £750 I eventualy got £2250 but would have happily accepted half of what they gave the car hire company instead of all the arguing. Hated the Alpha Romeo. Mike
  19. Martin Taylor, Frank Vignola, Andreas Varady who at 12 yrs old needs his fingers broken to give the rest of us a chance. (joking of course)give him a look on you tube he is amazing and there are many more. As for how long the signal takes to get from the front to the arial at the rear, not a problem as you always try a play behind the beat which is just right for jazz and blues. Mike
  20. It recieves the Digital signal through the arial you stick to the windscreen (Not very intrusive visualy) and then transmits to the car arial. I am very sceptical about gadgets, I think it stems from my childhood trips to the Ideal Home Exhibition and my Mum & Dad would by all thos gadgets that only ever worked for the demonstrator at the show, but this is brilliant. I spend alot of time listining to Talk Sport which is MW and is a terrible signal especialy at night but this brings it to you in crystal clearness. I have also found Jazz FM National again, a station that I could never get on the incar radio. Mike Things were going OK until you mentioned Jazz, I thought only VW Golf drivers liked it! :winky: Not so much the Jazz which I do love but for the Blues. Mike Now you're talking! have you tried 1.FM on the net and listened to their non stop blues?, fantastic and by far my favourite music. Never heard of that one but will definatly give them a listen, many thanks. Mike
