Ceramic coating... Thoughts
MIKEDAVIDN replied to darrude's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
I had a three stage machine polish and C-Quartz applied 4 months ago, I would not take my car to a dealer for this but to your local car detailer who will do a proper job. My local detailer had the car for four days, cost £500 but ii will get free top ups if any car panels get damaged and need repairing in the future. I would highly recommend ceramic coatings. -
The best way that I found to read the oil level on the dipstick was to remove the dipstick when the engine is still warm and leave out for a few hours or overnight then wipe it clean and then insert / reamove and read. This way it stops any oil smearing on the dipstick making it hard to read, always worked for me.

Your next car?

I have just sold my Mk2 IS250 and swapped for a Seat Leon Cupra, I loved my Lexus and owned it for six years but with a hole in the exhaust and the engine starting to drink oil it was time to sell. It's currently up for sale on auto trader for £6500 after I part exchanged it. I looked at getting a new GS 450h but I decided to get away from RWD cars because I was fed up with messing about switching to winter tyres every year. The Cupra is very fast and actually drives better on our poor roads better than the IS250 despite 19" wheels, it's got all the gadgets including adaptive cruise control and lane assist. It's true that some of the materials aren't as luxurious as the Lexus, for example the glove box is just hard plastic inside but everything else is fine. I will go back to Lexus in the future because I miss the quality dealership service. -
I chose the Seat because for 19k you get a car that is more powerful than a golf GTI and 3 years newer than a golf-r, I will keep the car for 5-6 years so not worried too much about depreciation. That's the reason I origianally chose the Lexus over a BMW or Mercedes due to getting more for your money.

I've just sold my IS250 after 6 years of ownership and bought a Seat Leon Cupra, 280 Bhp, DSG gearbox, fully loaded, radar cruise control, lane assist etc, etc, drives over the bad roads better than the Lexus despite having 19" wheels. Before I bought this i considered numerous cars from Passats, Volvo S40 & S60, RX450h, GS450h but I wanted to get away from RWD cars & having to mess around putting on winter tyres. I will miss the Lexus dealerships though and the great customer service.

Probably lasted a couple of months before the rattle started again after a oil change. I have now sold the car due to it starting to burn oil.

No I didn't ask what the work carried out was or got any paperwork / receipts to show the work carried out, they had my car though for 3 days!

My 58 reg IS250 also developed this engine rattle, I took out the Lexus extended warranty (2 years for the price of 1), waited a year then got it fixed for free under warranty. If you take out a warranty then ask for it fixing straight away Lexus UK will not fix it but wait a year and you should be okay, plus you also have the benefits of a two year warranty.

I always have rain-x on my Windows, it keeps them clean for longer and makes the car easier to wash /dry without streaks. When freshly applied you can drive without wipers on which does make motorway driving less stressful in the rain.

Tyres

HI, I would also agree that the Bridgestone Potenzas were terrible with tramlining, I have Continental sport contact tyres all round and these are much better, no tramlining. -
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone has ever replaced tired looking fabric seats with new fabric ones at the dealer, the fabric material is not very hard wearing? I know you can't swap the fabric seats for leather ones because the fabric seat cars are not wired up for the electric operations for movement. Thanks for any advise.

I fitted my LED side lights a few years ago and its passed all MOT tests including two done at a Lexus Dealership. -
Hi, does anyone know what might be causing my engine to make a rattle sound occasionally for about half a second when I first start the engine after its been driven previously and is still warm. The car is a 2008 IS250 with 51K, the rattle seams to be happening more often recently and only on start up, the rest of the time its a smooth as normal. Luckily the car is booked in for its annual service with Lexus next week. Thanks.

When I got my first set done, AP tyres in Rotherham they had a set in direct from Lexus Sheffield that they had just done so it was just a case of asking for mine doing the same as those. The second set I has done were done anthracite which at the time assumed would be the same as the Lexus grey colour only to find that they were in fact darker in colour. The Lexus grey colour is a lighter metallic colour and in my opinion better, the photos I have in my gallery are all the the Lexus grey colour. I assume Lexus grey is gun metal grey but not 100%, might be worth checking with Lexus to ask them what colour they ask for when they get wheels refurbished.
