  1. Look again, very different headlight units to our MKIV.
  2. Personally, I'd just disconnect the washers, at least until the problem is fixed, I never use them anyway.
  3. Ouch, I expected the cost to be high, but £15k is silly money, even for Lexus. Makes that warranty even better value.
  4. I remember the Beta, they sold well, and you couldn't move for the things, then they disappeared quicker than they came, either in a pile of rust, or bought back by Lancia and crushed. I googled and found this on youtube, a wonderfully posh item on the news.
  5. Must admit, I've never owned an American car, but always lusted after them, since I was a kid. Would love one of these in my garage, it's like a work of art to me, and the sound I once heard, when two of them were having a play, accelerating off a roundabout, on to a dual carriageway, is something I'll never forget. Just gorgeous to behold.
  6. I drove loads of 70s Fords, escorts, cortinas, capris and granadas..... the granadas were all autos, which weren't the best, but all the others were manual boxes, and every single one was a joy to use. My flatmate bought a brand new 1300E in purple, at the same time as I went for a 1300L ...his was a much nicer interior, very posh for it's time.
  7. Thanks very much Dale, your account enforces my fears of more modern LS models, particularly out of warranty. I imagine those would have been hefty bills, even allowing for your labour being free. Have to say though, your car looks beautiful, inside and out, they're a tempting beast.
  8. Same as antiques, if you buy something you love, then enjoy using it, any profit is a bonus. I find shows like Quentin and Jodies classic car series, with it's focus on prices, a bit tiresome, I'd prefer more emphasis on the actual cars qualities.
  9. You'd be hard pushed to beat it for running costs, and they are a lovely place to be, as a bonus, with unbeatable reliability. What's not to like?
  10. I test drove one of these, back to back with an MGC and an MGB, all soft tops, all around the same £1200 mark, in the mid 70s. I don't know whether the Tiger or the 'C' were great examples, as I never drove either model again, but I ended up buying the 'B', which was slower than the others, but a much nicer drive. That's the great thing about dream cars though, the dream is often more enjoyable than the reality, and doesn't cost a penny.
  11. Ooh, good thread. I bought a frogeye sprite for 200 quid, back in the early 70s, other cars available then, for similar money, that I'd love to own now, MkII Ford Zodiac, Vauxhall Cresta PA, and a nice red and white Sunbeam Rapier convertible.
  12. Who knows, but the seller has a history of dealing in damaged vehicles, which may or may not be unconnected.
  13. Thanks Mark, I'm afraid my memory is not the greatest.
  14. I agree, I've always thought they look baggy. I think I vaguely remember somebody getting them sorted, by removing the covers and having them made a tighter fit, although there's something at the back of my mind saying it may have been an LS600.
  15. Wouldn't touch it with a very long bargepole, Cat D should be easily visible on the ad, not hidden away in the description. It's about time ebay did the same as autotrader, by checking the cars history, and declaring it as a previously written off vehicle, at the top of the advertisement.
  16. Sorry Phil, didn't save him in ebay sellers list, and didn't go through ebay with the sale, so no record. Also checked current cars being broken, and no sign of him. However, I'll keep an eye out, and let you know if I come across him.
  17. I should add, I wouldn't pay 6 grand for the Lexus either, as nice as it is, as there are good examples available for less than half that amount, admittedly with higher mileages, but these cars wear their miles brilliantly, if looked after. I agree with the posts about Mercs, and would add corrosion to the problems list.
  18. There's a bloke in Essex who breaks Ls's, advertises on ebay. I bought a wing off him, before I eventually found one in my blue colour. It's maroon, but don't get too excited, as it was over a year ago, so who knows if he'd still have the door to match. I'll see if I can find his details and let you know.
  19. Well, the Fiat doesn't bear comparison with the other two, it's a car you'd have as well as, rather than instead of, the Merc or Lexus imo. I'd be more than happy to glide around in either car, but would pick the Lexus over the Merc based on likely repair costs, I just trust Lexus/Toyota for reliability, over any of the German makes.
  20. Why not be patient, and get the right colour and model, then just bolt it on. I did that very thing with my front wing, that some charmer had kicked in, on Halloween a few years back......perfect colour match for 50 quid delivered. Easier to fit a door as well, I would guess.
  21. As well as the above advice, I'd be checking your carpets and boot area for damp. When you check your cabin filter, you're looking for it being blocked, thus restricting the flow of fresh air.
  22. Maybe the private seller has just used the dealer pictures from when he bought the car?
  23. It is isn't it, might be a reasonable explanation, who knows, but certainly would need looking in to.
