  1. Ah then - that be it. I have ye olde Landrover clockwork SatNav as seen on ye antiques road show. (53 plate). Many thanks to ye gentleman and ladies of great wisdom. I have to go now and crank up the Freelander with ancient starting handle.
  2. Hey, ya came down to the sunny south coast!! Well it was sunny on Sat but pants after that!! We travelled down WB 10th. and the weather was brilliant - all week. Returned to typically Welsh weather now - back in our wellies! I did have my phone connected via btooth - but how does that work? I suppose I should check the manual myself - but finding the appropriate text is another matter. Sometimes its just easier to drop a line on the LOC and let the wizards respond. :hocus-pokus:
  3. I was interested in this subject as my nearest Lexus dealer is either Birmingham/Bristol or Cardiff (where I bought it). I live in Wales and there is a Toyota dealership less than ten miles away, while the Lexus are about 60 to 80 miles away. My car is still under warranty and although I've had no reason to return it, I am wondering if the situation is somewhat different for warranty work - as opposed to repair/servicing. Flavio's experience sounds frightening and has all but put me off even considering it now; but when I posed the question to the Cardiff salesman, he seemed to find no problem with it. I've heard of Lexus supplying parts to the Toyota dealerships in the past, so don't know what the issue is with Falvio's car.
  4. On my first fairly long journey from Wales down to the South coast I encountered information from my SatNav that surprised me. First was a message that told me that a lane up ahead was closed. Sometime later it told me that there was heavy rain ahead. On the way back (via Northampton and M25), I was informed of a closed road and asked if I wanted an alternative route. Now I've had SatNav for many years in other vehicles and I'm aware that you can subscribe to receive information such as I have described above, but wasn't aware that it was a 'standard' feature of the Lexus version.
  5. You don't say what the replacement tyre is. Are you sure that the replacement is an inferior quality? Not trying to say that you don't know good from bad, but just curious what they replaced it with. Even if it is a good tyre, I'd want all four corners to match up - which is the approach I would take. Having a different make on one corner, particularly if it is a front wheel is not a good idea anyway. All makes of rubber have their own attributes and handling. I find it odd that a dealership would even think of sticking an odd one on - a pair maybe, but a single! Also thanks to Normski for advice on base/treble balance - I didn't realise that it was necessary to set each mode.
  6. You must also check out the specification physically, rather than just relying on the online description. I had many issues when I first viewed my current vehicle. The spec. sheet gave the car as having daylight running lights, headlight washers and a couple of others. None of these things were on the car when I viewed it. Some things are obvious, but others you might miss until the deal is done, so be rigorous in your inspection.
  7. Does that mean that they have to be in proximity while you are actually opening/closing the door, or is it just a case of them walking behind their target (who has the key/fob) for a minute or so? I don't pretend to understand the concept behind the keyless entry, but how does moving the port make that much difference? Do they then have to pin-point the actual location,or is it just a case of walking around the car? I'd love to get a better understanding of this. Geoffers - do you feel like writing a few lines on the subject, or is there already something comprehensive within the forum somewhere?
  8. I'm aware of the credit card issue and have just ordered an RFID wallet that screens the chips from any electronics. I'm in the market for a new mattress - yours sounds perfect.
  9. In the light of the current security issues focussed around BMW, how secure are Lexus owners? Apparently a $30 electronic box is able to capture the signals from BMWs and transfer to a blank key, allowing thieves to drive away the vehicle in minutes. See http://www.theregist...car_theft_hack/ The article also mentions Toyotas as vulnerable, and I assume by association, Lexus as well. Have there been any reports of Lexus vehicles being appropriated using this method?
  10. Thanks for the link John – I’ve seen others like it. As a programmer in my former life I tend to write my own apps for things like this. I also have one for my Domestic Fuel Oil usage. My favourite one is the car comfort equation. Where Posterior size (ars) in centimetres and bucket seat depth ( b ) are calculated as a depression factor (g). This is considered alongside the suspension ratio (i) on the vehicle in question (is) and the speed of travel (at) against the condition of the road being travelled (f). This equates to: Comfort factor = f-at (ars/is)-2(b)/(i-g)
  11. The nearest anyone will get (assuming we don' trust the computer), is reverting to the pre-electronic methodology. Fill the tank to maximum and record the base mileage (m1). Use the car until you feel the need to refuel, fill to the top and record the mileage (m2) and the amount of fuel litres added (fl). Miles per litre: mpl = (m2-m1)/fl or Miles per gallon: mpg = (m2-m1)/(fl/4.546095) This of course is time consuming and gives only an overall efficiency based on your driving and the types of road travelled. Not practical to do on each journey, but as a one off exercise – it’s interesting. However it’s a Lexus and we didn’t buy it for its economy with fuel.
  12. That's very impressive mpg! Is that with the V6 auto? I just did a round trip from Wales - Hastings - Northampton: a lot of motorway/cruise control and careful driving. Best I got was 37.7mpg. Did you coast it down the hills?
  13. Martin, that's a nice looking motor. My heart gave a blip when I saw mileage as 107 - then read down. I doubt that you'll have probs selling that.
  14. Hi and welcome to the LOC. I think that you may have to give a bit more info about your problem. I'm no electronics expert but there are a lot of members here who will have that expertise. Explain exactly what you are trying to do and the equipment that you are trying to do it with. I'm sure there will be someone with an idea or two.
  15. Welcome to the LOC. Wheels look good with that colour. What's the significance of the transfer 'RollHard' or is it 'HardRoll'?
  16. Some good advice above. When I was looking for my first Lexus I was 'headed off at the pass' about diesel. Previously I had been doing about 700 miles a week but now only use the car on short trips and a rare long run. No good for a diesel. I eventually went for a petrol automatic and didn't regret it. I would agree with the previous post about the IS250 - but then again I'm biased. Carefully analyze your motoring and the decision between diesel and petrol will be self evident.
  17. Since I joined the LOC I have been waiting for the Dealship Review page to come back online. When I raised the subject shortly after joining it was inferred that it would be re-instated sometime soon. Not sure why it was originally withdrawn (before I joined) - but as the new web site has now been launched and the page is still disabled I wondered if we might start a members thread here. I have started this off using the Town/City name and Post code as the key. I have also created my own subject headings to avoid long swathes of text to wade through. There will of course be others and will be dependant upon the reasons for your visit. Cardiff CF11 8AQ Reason for visit: Used vehicle purchase IS250 Advance Pre- Sales Attentiveness: 9/10 Post Sales Attentiveness: 7/10 Accuracy of information: 7/10 Value for money: 8/10 Standard of work: 9/10 Overall Rating: 8/10 General Notes: Some of the specifications attributed to the advertised car did not exist. Good Points: Did the first service FOC and delivered the car to my door. Made a good job of the remdial work - scratches/alloy marks etc. Negociated a set of new grey mats in lieu of poor spec. decription Bad Points: :megaangry: Seemed to lose interest in me as a customer once the transaction had completed. Would not send the mats to me, so have to wait until next year (next service) to pick them up, unless I make a special trip.
  18. Apologies in advance if this seems a dumb response - but have you tried the eject sequence? Does it do anything? If it is a single player - there may already be a disk in there.
  19. Hi Jorge - Are you sure that the brightness control for the cluster hasn't been turned right down? Nice car - what colour is that?
  20. While you don't say what you are paying for it - and I'm not asking you to, its likely you will be getting a 7k car (barely run in) for an extremely good price. I'm not sure about the warranty issue (4 years old) and I defer to Chris' kmowledge on that point, but even so, you are looking at an almost showroom, top notch car. Even if you did have to spend some money on it in the future, there would be others in this forum that would queue outside you Uncle's house for a fortnight to have a chance of getting a car like that. Go for it!
  21. Has anyone thought or considered wrapping their wheels? Personally I think the result looks awful. The finish is at best amateurish and I doubt if the vinyl would be that resilient. If I wanted black wheels I’d get them done by someone proficient and probably stick with powder coating. I know there would be a substantial difference in cost, but I’d rather pay out than have a poor finish. You would also need to make sure that the wheels were in good surface order before applying the vinyl. I suppose the clip IS meant as a selling aid – it had the opposite effect on me.
  22. That's interesting F.A., the salesman at Cardiff Lexus made a big thing of being able to add tracks to the HDD. Told me it was a great advantage over the disk version of the Satnav. Methinks that I will have words with said gentleman - though perhaps I'd better actually try the option first.
