First let me say that I have no experience with Kumhos on my IS, but that I have them on all corners of my Freelander. The tyre noise from my Freelander is quite noticeable since I switched (from Goodyear), so I thought it worth mentioning. Of course the tyre sizes and profiles will be totally different, so Hondaman's experience is probably the better post to consider. I should also add that I was warned in advance by the fitter that the Kumhos would probably be noisier, so I was well prepared. It doesn't matter a jot with my workhorse Freelander, but I would be miffed if I had the same experience with my lovely quiet IS.

Might be a contact with the wheel frame of a shopping trolly. I hate it when that happens - someone knew about that - it's too deep.

My First Lexus Is 200 2003
darkoracle replied to lexuslover2012's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Don't worry 'usman' it gets like this sometimes, but it doesn't mean we are always at each others throats. You'll be surprised how much good stuff comes out of little interchanges like this. There are some good threads around that start out like this, but it doesn't come to blows! - well not usually.- 47 replies

Good looking motor - love the alloys. I have a similar (ivory) leather interior and found that the light coloured floor mats got shabby/dirty looking very quickly, despite being as careful as we could. In the end I replaced them with a nice charcoal grey but kept the ivory ones sealed up and stored in plastic. The grey does not look out of place and keeps the car looking tidy. If its not too late, you might get the dealer to throw in a set.

Rediculous Pop-Up At The Bottom Of The Screen
darkoracle replied to TigerFish's topic in Add a suggestion
It seems to be a recent 'feature'. Drives me nuts too. I'm not sure whether it produces any revenue for the site or not, but I hope they find an alternative soon. -
I like the colour of this - never heard of the Allard association with Lexus before. Has it done many miles? Can you give us a brief on the spec: engine size/type etc. Literally one in a million.
-
Now, I know where my £189k would go ! Awww - come on, you can't leave it like that.

What/Who gave you the 99.9% probability? The diesels are well known for the head gasket problem, but you need to check a couple of things: 1. Have you got a full Lexus service history? 2. What symptoms lead you to believe that its a head gasket issue? 3. What mileage and year is the car? I can't give you chapter and verse about a replacement engine under warranty but there are plenty of knowledgable people in this forum who know exactly the conditions that need to be met before that would happen. Give the forum more details (as above) and you'll get some good sensible answers.

From what you say it doesn't sound like the head gasket. That problem usually associated with the diesel engine, though of course it cannot be absolutely discounted. If it has been standing for a while it may well need a service, but depends what service history came with it. What mileage are we looking at? It sounds more like a badly fitting or damaged hose. If the service history is poor or if you have no recent service in the book, I'd be inclined to have one done. Make sure you make the point about the coolant. If it is anything more serious they will call before they start taking your engine apart. If the engine is running well - apart from the coolant loss, it may not be a major problem.

Well you maybe right... but then it begins to look like over the top extravagance! :(

If I had 400k to spend on a car - it wouldn't be that one. I might go for a couple of these though. http://www.autoblog.com/2009/04/09/the-price-of-green-bentley-continental-supersports-is-267-000/ Oh... but I'd keep my Lexus just to show everyone that I had good taste.

The 'fun' really starts when the frosty mornings come and you are scraping ice from the inside as well as the outside. :eerrrmm: I've also found that those bead filled dehumidifiers can help - you can get them from Amazon and Coopers. You plug them into a house power socket and heat them up until the beads go blue, disconnect and place it into your car, remove it when the beads go pale pink... Plug them in again etc. Not always 100% effective but they do help.

Ok Tim, Details on setting a voice tag on page 360 of Nav System manual. However dialing it's not as straight forward as I remember. (As I said its been a while since I used this) Press the Voice button say 'Telephone' wait for response Say 'Dial by name' wait for response say 'name' e.g. 'Sarah' Still three steps, but you don't need to take your eyes off the road.
-
Anyway - I've tried the voice-dialling again and I MUST be doing it wrong!?! Phoning the wife to say I'll be home in 20 minutes requires more conversation with the car than it does with her!!? Am I missing something!? I remember when I got my car and played with the settings - just as you've done. I haven't had cause to use the voice command lately but I remember setting up voice tags for each number. e.g. If you want to put a tag on your wife's mobile - it could be either her name or just 'wife'. The system will play it back to you to confirm. Then when you want to call her you just say 'Call' wife. I'm not sure about the 'Call' part - it might be 'Dial' or 'Telephone', but it is a simple one line command. I've had a rough day and am headed to bed now, but I'll dig out chapter and verse tomorrow.

Good to see another new member from Wales. The car looks very tidy - the stone chips aren't obvious from the photos, but I know how these things niggle away at you when you know that they are there. I wish that I had owned a car like that when I was 19, I think I had a Vanguard 2 litre then. You may need to visit a museum to know what that looked like. ^_^

Is This A Good Buy?
darkoracle replied to Fishboy's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
It looks a good buy to me. Like the colour and the interior. If it's as clean as it looks in the photos I think you have a winner. Still worth a try to negociate on the price. No indication of the service history, but with some months left on the warranty it should be FLSH. Worth checking with the retailer though. -
As an IS250 Advance owner myself I can certainly recommend the IS250 whatever 'flavour' you elect to go for. When I was looking around for my IS, I wanted as much as I could get for the money. It is interesting however that after driving it for a while now, some of those gadgets and toys seem less important. I am the only driver so after I'd adjusted the electric powered seats to my satisfaction, I'm fairly sure that I will never touch the switches again. The Advance doesn't have seat position memory, but if it had, it would be a complete waste - as far as I my situation is concerned. I surrpose what I'm trying to say is you need to consider what will really benefit you and your own driving style and don't get swayed by masses of bells and whistles that may never be rung or blown! Concentrate your cash where it will benefit you most. Whatever you end up with, you will love your car - provided that it's a Lexus of course.

Post Pics Of Your Lexus
darkoracle replied to Wannabeownerofanis200's topic in Lexus IS200 / Lexus IS300 Club
Lewis: That's smart looking car, with an original makeover. What colour is that? Looks black in the first pic but met. greyish in the others. Not sure that the poor old smurf deserves its place dangling from the back end. :eerrrmm: -
The only thing that I can think of is to ask members on this forum to give specific examples of Lexus cars being repaired by Toyota dealerships with Lexus supplying original parts. You could then quote chapter and verse of these incidents and ask them (Lexus) to justify why they did it on those occasions and will not do it now. I feel really angry about this and its not even my car!
