  1. aren't we a funny lot? if you click on a 'poll & survey' topic, and read it, as 70 have done at this time, why would 50 odd members not bother to just tick one box before leaving the topic? if you look at the 'P & S' threads, most are treated in the same way. nowt as queer as folk, as my old dad used to say! :P
  2. my guess is 50/50 (and as it's an almost secret poll, say what you think, and not what you think your mates want to hear!)
  3. such a good idea that only one's ticked it, so maybe it never appeared before??
  4. it had to be either you or him!
  5. not sure there's an option for me. if modern living is about freedom of choice, then we needed more options in the poll, such as: just be a trading group (EFTA) adopt the sensible EU laws (but only if the rest enforce them as well) sod the EU army (how can a bunch of lillylivered self-servers be allowed to control OUR forces (tho on reflection, we've got enough home grown ones of those already!)) and how could we possibly have a 'level playing field' unless EVERYTHING was harmonised (income tax, VAT, NHI, house prices, road fund licence fees, wages, holidays, farm subsidies, immigration policies (well, i suppose one might be useful!), civilbloodyliberties, etc., etc.,) AND FINALLY, if blair gives us a referendum on 'the constitution' (which might in any event be advantageous to the common man), he'd only use the result as an excuse NOT to give us a referndum on something much more important in the future. that feels better; shame non-one who matters will read it!
  6. so which cleverdick added 'posted several times the other month' to the poll options? i tried but couldn't, so it must be one of the 'officers'. odd that tho he added it, presumably cos he'd already voted, he couldn't put his tick in the box. ;)
  7. do you mean 'boot' as in american 'trunk', or do you mean engine compartment? i can't see how a pollen filter could be installed in the boot/trunk as there would have to be ducting to and from it.
  8. due to the numerous mess-ups the garage made with my car, they did the labour free while they were doing the heads, but i think they said it would be about 2.5 hours if done on it's own. my garage only charge £45 an hour, but i'm sorely tempted to go to lexus next time, and pay their £99.
  9. i didn't realise they might be worth money! i had quite a collection of little foil wallets, tore them open and looked at the pretty pictures of cars i can't afford, then chucked em! DOH!
  10. i've just had a seal kit fitted to my power steering pump, and it's stopped the dripping leaks. kits about 15 quid plus VAT, plus labour.
  11. on my Mk1 this pipe appears to be copper or brass, or maybe burnished stainless; whatever it is, it has a 'convoluted section' to allow some flexibility, and it's been braised together (badly) probably to repair a leak. i saw it while they had the heads off to skim them. as the labour to get to it is the largest element, i recon a new one has got to be the best bet.
  12. i had a seal kit fitted and the noises went away, as did the fluid leak!
  13. short-form update. head gasket was only leaking when engine was well and truly hot. heads pressure tested and OK, but both were warped (probably due to my son driving it after the water ran out thro the radiator crack, and no warning lights came on nor temp gauge rising, so he didn't know there was a problem til it ground to a halt, very very hot!) heads skimmed 6 thou, new gaskets, valves re-ground and sealed, etc. now goes OK, except hot stalling is the current problem, so throttle body cleanup on the cards this weekend. it's also reluctant to 'kick-down' sometimes, so gotta sort that as well.
  14. my guess is that you're a bit low on oil level. if you drive forward down the hill then change into reverse to go back up, does it still take 5 secs to engage? i recon the angle the car's at affects the oil level, and this in turn affects the pressure build-up.
  15. i had the same problem on my LS400, and when it was stripped down they found the rubber shrouds on the calliper pistons had cracked and corrosion was starting inside cylinders. new seal kits fitted all round while they were at it, and problem almost disappeared, but i recon the sticking piston had caused the front disc rotor to warp, so i'll get new ones at some stage. but the seal kits sure made a difference to the braking operation.
  16. savernake would be good for me; i could walk there and keep the lex clean!! and we could spend the first 15 minutes talking about the first person shot by michael ryan, in savernake forrest!
  17. i think you'll find it's a vacuum, so unless you drop your fag in the tank, you should be fairly safe! and for the PC lot, you shouldn't be smoking at all when you remove the filler cap!
  18. so, 93% easy - does this mean that lexus drivers are clever, or that clever people buy lexuses? (or to satisfy matt, it's way too easy and he practiced on all the previous postings anyway!)
  19. this continues on http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...=48&t=13024&st=
  20. he has problems trying to start to car from cold, it usually took 10-20 swings of the starter. after replacing the fuel filter, it only took 3-4 swings. but still wouldn't start first time. so he was asking for help. we chatted at some length on AIM and he tried a trick to remove the petrol filler cap when he switched off, then leave it off til he re-started it some five hours later. it started first time. i'm now waiting for him to get to work to see if it did the trick last night as well. if it did, then i'm thinking a faulty one-way valve in the fuel line (if there is one) or a faulty breather into the fuel tank (if there is one). now we've isolated why it won't start, what's the cure?
  21. hi - i've just got in and am going straight out, look for a post in about 4 hours, unless someone else solves it in the meantime! it must still be on GMT.
