  1. Hehehe. Lexus built cars of quality. I think you're a bit lucky, but then again, Lexus owners are more likely to service & MOT their cars, so any issues, get fixed. I got a 54 plate is200 SportCross with 122000 miles on the clock 2 weeks ago. CD Changer wasn't working, just fitted the replacement unit yesterday, fuse for cigarette lighter got replaced last weekend. A DAY AFTER BUYING IT, IT WOULDN'T START, the garage had to come round and fit a new battery. Rear parking sensors aren't working and I've only got one key. But I'm fixing everything. And 2 weeks in. It's still the best car I've ever owned!
  2. Yep master key :) As shreksta said a new key will cost u about £160 from Lexus. If you lose all keys to the car then it's a nightmare. Worst case scenario is you'll need a new ECU, new door locks and new ignition barrel and new keys at a cool price of £2000 from Lexus! Please mate, stop posting up stories like this to scare people- it simply isnt true. You can have have your ECU reprogrammed to accept new keys- when I got my car, the only key I had loked like a master key, but wasnt. An autolocksmith reprogrammed my ECU to accept the key, and the spare I had as well. My post from April 2010... For all those that may have read recently I had some issues coded a 2nd key to my new (to me) purchase last week. The car was taken to Lexus guildford for coding where I was told that my master key was actually a sub key and that they couldnt code my spare key. they did however give me the details of an auto locksmith who said that he could copy the key so it would be a spare, but neither would be the master key. The cost of this was £105 plus vat. I had a look around where I work and found one literally round the corner from where I work in Gatwick and had a chat with him yesterday and booked it in for this morning. The result?? I now have 2 coded master keys, with the spare also programmed for door unlocking as well. The cost?? £150 inc.vat.. The imobiliser was removed and reflashed so that it recognised both keys as Master keys. He went through and showed me that the car actually had 5 keys coded for it!! Anyway, its all sorted, for a relatively small amount- especially if you take into account people and dealers saying you need new keys and an ECU- you dont. you just need a decent auto locksmith who knows what they are doing... For anyone who wants his details- he's Gatwick based but is mobile (and I guess the price charged would reflect that?) ????: ###### # Forum http://www.**********club.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=7713 Anyway: Gatwick Auto Locksmiths, Kelvin Way, Crawley, RH10 9SE 01293 536377 dave@autolocksmiths.co.uk Can thoroughly recomend them, they did a superb job- even if I do have to go back tomorrow as I was £10 short.. J Hey guys, thank you both for your answers. I would've gone to Lexus as a matter of course, but I was surprised at how much they suggested a replacement audio unit would cost. Thank you Jason. Yes there are other people out there who are who are likely to be as competent and less expensive as Lexus. Thank you Chris. Yes, if you go to Lexus, they may charge more and maybe replace items that don't necessarily need to be changed. I'm not doubting the quality of the work that they would carry out. I don't view what you said as a scare story. Stuart.
  3. Yeah, most garages, if they sell part worns, will not sell below 7mm. Or at least, they shouldn't! Mine are 8mm.
  4. Cheers J. I think that maybe Lexus themselves charge more, simply because they are Lexus. Not dissing that, but maybe.
  5. Yeah, that what I was thinking. It's cheaper to get the new keys ordered than pay a fortune for new everything. And of course, now that I'm a membr of the Lexus Owners Club, I want to make sure that the vehicle is working correctly with all the proper items it should have. Stuart
  6. Why do Lexus quote £2000.00 for everything? New audio unit? New ecu? Hmmmmm. Cheers Chris.
  7. Thanks Shreksta. It puts my mind at ease that new keys can be sorted.
  8. cheers for your support and advice guys.
  9. I don't think there are any specific tyres Lexus would recommend. Check out prices of part worns. Garages who sell them will have a certificate as they are not meant to be sold if they have lost more than 2mm of tread since original sale. But there may be a clause in your insurance that states in the event of an accident in adverse weather conditions, if winter tyres are not fitted, insurance could be nul and void.
  10. Hey guys. When I got the SportCross, the garage only had one key. Should I get a new set of keys done from Lexus?
  11. Indeed. I think that if you have two sets of tyres ( winter and summer ) psychologically you drive a little differently. More responsibly maybe because you know you're going to be swapping them around each year, you want them to last.
  12. I was putting my LOC stickers in this afternoon. Unlocked car and sat in the back, doors closed. Suddenly the car locks itself and the alarm goes off!?! I unlock with key fob and calm my heart down when it happens again. I get out and lock the car and haven't been back in, but the alarm hasn't gone off again since. Must be about 5 hours since. Hoping it's not a problem and just being a bit weird because of the amount of snow on the car at the time.
  13. Mine did this yesterday. I had it set to windscreen and feet, but had all vents open. Driver side was hot, center and passenger side were cold. Feet and windscreen were fine. Don't want to sound patronising, but before bleeding the system, have you checked that it's not something silly? Stuart
  14. The winter tyres will be good for 6-10, 000 miles. Don't go over 60mph too often, don't speed round corners and they'll last. They'd last longer if we could guarantee 6 months continuously at 3ºs or lower, but heyho! I'll be looking for a set of is200 17" rims in a couple of months to put summer tyres on, the 16" with winters will then go into storage. Mine were part worns too. Goodyear on the front Bridgestone on the rear. I would rather have had all the same, but I didn't want to pay £70.00 + per tyre. I'm hoping I don't regret this decision.
  15. Will do. It's good to get things working. Waiting for service plan to be sent from Lexus Cardiff. Last service was 121000, but last Feb!?!
  16. Mine came yesterday. Stickers going on later.
  17. snow is trying to hide my car. Even pointing downhill to assist with moving, there's nearly a 4 inch block in front.
  18. Good morning. I have fitted the radio, cd changer unit. Very easy to remove and replace. It's making the right noises and messages. I haven't tested the radio, volume or CD yet, as it's so cold, I'm having a cuppa to warm up first. There was no CD stuck in my unit, but it has writing on it to say it has been repaired at least once before. Edited post; Everything is working. Scared me a bit when CD 3 whirred and couldn't find a track, but ejected it and removed the hair (!?!) Put it back in and it was fine. Checked all the switches to make sure everything was working, my wife would've killed me if the heated seats stopped working. Now to do the washing up.
  19. I forgot that paypal now has a function to pay immediately via debit or credit card. This will be the easiest way. I paid via offoine payment, sent an email and paid by bank transfer.
  20. Very nice, only 52k in a 2001. I'm starting to think 122k in a 2004 wasn't as good as initially thought. Great colour. Welcome to the site.
  21. This is the first time I've ever bought winter tyres, but with a rear wheel drive Lexus, I was not going to risk not buying them.
