  1. Hi, have you got the air con on? My car idles around 1200 with air con on, turn it off and it drops to around 800. The 220d often gets a lot of bad press on this forum due to a number of well known problems around carbon build up so worth checking put the following: there's a link on you tube to cleaning the egr valve - if this gets clogged, it causes a whole raft of problems. This may look daunting but relatively straight forward (I just about know where the oil goes and I can do it!) Buy yourself some BG44 and archoil AR6200 to add to the fuel and keep the engine (relatively) clean That aside, enjoy. Its a great car.
  2. I spent a while deciding which one to go for and opted for the one in your first picture. It just looks a little more stylish than the other option.
  3. Hi, does anyone have a set of roof bars and/or bike holders for a Lexus IS 220/250 they're looking to sell? Cheers
  4. When push came to shove, one injector was replaced which solved the issue. My concern is that 'wear and tear' is not clearly defined in my books. You could argue that over time, any part could fail due to wear and tear. Its a get out of jail free card for warranty companies. I would suggest if you look after your car (regular service and with diesels clean the egr valve and use bg244/archoil) save your money.
  5. I've used Warranty Wise before and my experience wasn't good. I had their gold/platinum package (it was their top package) when I bought my IS220; given that it was fronted by Quinton Wilson I assumed it was a credible outfit. Within a month of ownership I had cause to use my warranty because I suffered a faulty injector - according to Lexus I needed 3 of them. Initially Warranty Wise were very accommodating and even told me the warranty would cover it. When they got the report from Lexus recommending 3 new injectors together with the price for the work, Warranty Wise spent a week trying to find a reason not to honour the warranty and they changed their mind. I'm no mechanic but injectors aren't wear and tear items! If you're compelled to get a warranty, I'd stick with Lexus as I believe they would look after you. If you need to use your warranty, it will be easier to argue your case when you can look someone in the eye, rather than a faceless person down the phone.
  6. Stunt driver too. Although part of me thinks that's cockney rhyming slang!
  7. I've been a Lexus owner for the past 15months; I must admit to being more and more pi55ed off with Lexus franchise garages. I bought my first Lexus for a number of reasons - I loved the toys but I was aware of something called Lexus customer care/service so I was hooked, what could go wrong. I must admit my experience of the latter is shocking. Within the first 2 months of ownership, I had the dreaded 5th injector issue - Lexus Exeter told me I needed 3 new injectors - £1600 plus. This would solve the problem, but this was only after cleaning the EGR valve and charging me £150 plus. I contacted the garage I bought it from who accepted responsibility and following a conversation they had with Lexus Exeter decided to fix the problem by replacing 1 injector only at a 3rd of the price - I'm pleased to say this fixed the problem but I'm still perplexed as to why they wanted to charge me £1600 for 3 new injectors. Ultimately I'm nothing but disappointed in Lexus alleged customer service, quite frankly its crap! Their objective is to get the most money out of their customers. Where on earth does this 'legendary' customer service come from? I am at a loss as to the benefit of a Lexus service stamp; quite frankly I get better service and quality from Halfords - honestly. Lexus are a bunch of charlatans. Don't get me wrong, I love my car- but Lexus garages? No thanks!!!
  8. Welcome to the forum. Nice car! I bet that puts a big smile on your face.
  9. This looks useful. I've tried this on my car and I can't get this option either, even though its mentioned in the sat nav manual. Is this option only available on later models?
  10. My is220 is due for a service soon. My nearest Lexus garage is approx. 25 miles away however I have a Halfords Autocentre close by - I've been to them a couple of time for some minor issues and they have been great so I have no problems with using them - plus their service plan does look comprehensive. I'm not going to lie, dropping the car off round the corner is a bonus! My question is, are there any special types of fluids an is220 needs (over and above the standard off the shelf stuff) just so I can give them the heads up. I'm aware the car needs semi synthetic oil but are all other fluids standard?
  11. If your mpg is dropping that sounds like your egr valve could be getting clogged up with carbon. There are some great links on this forum on how to clean it. Also worth getting some bg244 to put in with a full tank of fuel and then put in a small amount of archoil fuel treatment with every tank to keep grief at bay. The above is some great advise Ive picked up on this forum and so far has given me trouble free motoring with the much maligned 220d.
  12. Hi Sean, check to see if you have the a/c on. If yes, the car will idle at around 1200 but when you turn it off, it should drop to about 800.
  13. That's what I was hoping but I contacted a seller of these strut bars who provides them for an is250 but claims not to have any for an is220 so I assume now they are different - strange really as there is so much commonality between the models.
  14. Does anyone know where I can get hold of an engine strut bar for an is 220? I've seen many around for an is250, but not for a 220. As much as I love my car, its strength is not going round corners so I think this will help. Any signposting would be appreciated.
  15. Morning Scott, is your air con on? When idling, the engine will always rev around 1200 when stationary until the engine is fully warmed up. If you turn off your air con, revs will drop to about 800.
  16. Thanks Normski. Managed to get the bulb changed now. Massive difference with leds in. Will try and change the bulbs in the wing mirrors tomorrow. What can go wrong.......
  17. Hi, can anyone advise me how to change the interior lights in the central dome, next to the rear view mirrior. Having watched several youtube clips I thought I could simply lever off the translucent cover and change the bulbs but I cant find a gap large enough to prise it off. I guess the only other option is to remove the unit from the roof but not sure how to do that. Any help greatly appreciated.
  18. Hi, a week or so ago I read on this forum about changing the internal lights to leds, I watched a couple of youtube clips and thought, that looks easy. So I've bought my bulbs and plastics tools and last night I thought I'd change them over, wont take me long. Should have known, nothing is ever that straight forward. My problem relates to the centre dome light. I was expecting to simply lever off the light cover and pull out the bulbs but there is no way in so the only option looks like removing the plastic cover (where the sunglasses storage unit is on other models) and remove the whole unit from the roof. My question is how do you remove the plastic cover - I can get a thin tool behind the cover but dont know where the clips are and am concerned it will shatter if I give it too much force. Any help appreciated.
  19. Can anyone tell me where the throttle body is on a IS 220d engine? I've seen a couple of videos on the benefits of cleaning the throttle body but can find it on my engine. Any help locating this would be much appreciated.
  20. That's great to see there are alternatives. If we can compile a list of good mechanics around the country who have fixed/serviced lexus cars then we'll all save some money. As much as I love my car I am ever fearful of something going wrong; though even more fearful of the Lexus repair costs!
  21. Hi, I've had my lexus now for 3-4 months. Despite a few hiccups, I'm loving the car. I often read the postings on this site, the problems people face with their cars and the rediculous prices Lexus charge. As my car is 6 yrs old I've no intention of using Lexus unless I really have to. Problem is that I cant find a specialist local to me in Torquay. So I thought it might be an idea to try and put together a list of specialists we could use who empty our bank accounts. Sorry, I cant add to this list but I know there are some knowledgeable folk on this forum. Surely it's about time Lexus garage services had some competition!
  22. I appreciate this is not high on the list of problems associated with this car (I know, I've had a few recently!) but this car comes with what looks like black tape along a silver strip at the base of each of the door windows. Mine is looking rather shabby and could do with being replaced as it's bringing down the rest of the car. Has anyone been able to source this stuff and fitted it? Anyone know where to get it from? Is it easy to replace or best left to a professional - I've read on here somewhere that Lexus wanted to charge £50 per window to replace it which is quite frankly ourageous, but in line with my experience of them!
