  1. on mine the car unlocks when you put it back in Park. My parking sensors beep but I dont have the camers. A didtance indication appears in the display between the dials (the one with outside temp, average MPG etc.)
  2. Have a read of this: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/topic/29179-is250-engine-ticking/
  3. Could be right, I use Vpower most of the time, tesco 99 the rest of the time
  4. Id say not particularly now that 2 litre turbos are the norm (BMW, Ford Ecoboost, IS200t) - but a competitive figure for equivalent engines such as BMW 2.5 straight 6 its releative - Ive recenly had a Volvo S80 D4 hire car - and after a couple of weeks in that the IS250 fely a bit weedy low down for first few miles. IS250 = 186 ft·lbf @4800 rpm (same as BMW N52 2.5 straight 6 that was in the last 3 series) S80 D4 = 295lb ft (same 0-60 on paper as IS250, but apart from big slug of low down torque in the Volvo, Lexus feels faster overall) But the IS is a far more satisfying drive. Like Cracksta I find the IS250 is perfect for me - wonderfully smooth powertrain, refined, great V6 noise and some good oomph when you want it - but its no sports car - cos its not designed to be. "its not slow but its not very fast either (0-60 approx 8.4 secs on paper but feels quicker than this)" - Id agree 100%
  5. HI, Welcome to the club In terms of performance - you'd have to take a test drive as its quite a subjective thing. IS250 feels fairly quick to me - but I came from a manual 2 litre NA petrol Mondeo - Id describe it as having good overtaking ability and useful amount of power for the road, without being an absolute rocket ship For MPG - I get 30mpg with sensible normal driving, mostly A roads. On a Mway run I can see pushing 40mpg.
  6. Another IS250 here that does exactly the same - at the lights mines the only car with smoke
  7. so who is telling you that need replacing and no shims fitted- another Lexus dealer?
  8. thats really not on. Hopefully its a genuine mix up of the previous advice being repeated in error rather than "corroded discs and missing shims" being a standard blag for cars of a certain age\mileage regardless off the truth.
  9. Lexus is back in my hands Repair bill was £2183 (insurance) but she is looking good.
  10. Hit and run badger... I once hit something whilst driving an Impreza Turbo down a country lane - rather too quickly due to youthful stupidity.. No damage but a blood splat on the front lip lip of the bonnet. I stopped straight away and got out of the car - nothing there. I didn't think to look up. As I turned to get back into the car a Pheasant dropped vertically from the sky about 20 yards behind me. It must of reached some altitude given the time between hit and drop down...
  11. apologies should of pointed this out - just a pic off google to show the exhaust in context of my descrription - not my car!
  12. Visually the bumper was a goner, but the right hand exhaust was pushed a few degrees out of line to the right and slightly back so that the back-right edge of the silencer was pushed against the inside of the right rear tyre . If you look at the image below I'm a bit concerned that the speed of the fix means they might have just bent the exhaust back into place.. the main point of impact was in line with the left side of right rear light cluster , centred just above the crease line of the bumper
  13. yes its gone through the approved repairers - didn't fancy the battle\stress of trying to get it done elsewhere. I'm taking Wednesday afternoon off work so I can go and collect it and query what has been done and check it out before it leaves their garage. I'm also going to give it a test drive in the locality so can take it straight back if not happy.
  14. No it brushed aluminium trim. Its a suprisingly nice car, although at 40k Id probably spend the money on a GS450h
  15. Good news - car should be ready by 2nd Dec. Big sigh of relief as I'd almost convinced myself it was going to be a cat D write off. In the meantime Ive got a 15 plate top spec Volvo S80 auto to waft around in. Very nice car but cant wait to get My 250 back
  16. only had is (250) for one winter and there was very little snow; however my driveway is a downward slope, it took the lightest sprinkling for my car not to be able to reverse, and just sat spinning its wheels. Winter tyres would help Im sure or maybe snow chains\socks but any coverage of snow and already resigned to not risking it. I also live at the top of a hill, and last time we had snow the entrance to my estate was littered with abandoned RWD cars.
  17. I know, but the really annoying thing is that in 26 years of driving never had an accident before and only ever claimed for a cracked windscreen. And Ive passed the advanced driving test. And I'm a higher risk because someone else wasn't paying attention... :megaangry:
  18. Yesterday I got rear ended in the IS. Everyone was OK but the rear bumper is destroyed and the right hand exhaust has been bent over to the right and jammed up against the rear wheel so car is undriveable.. Waiting to hear back on the full extent of the damage.
  19. Heard back from @lexus uk: To clear up confusion that I was not referring to drive mode selection I sent them this (diagram attached) Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing, I mean the s mode on the old auto box (2005-2012 IS) not the current rotary mode controller. Its where you move the gear lever over to the right from d to s. Attached a pic of the gear selection (that's for a left hand drive but the d-s selection is what I'm referring to.. The reply was: Thanks for the diagram. The S stands for sequential. When in that mode you can control the gear the car is in yourself through moving it forward or backwards.
  20. How does Snow mode work in a Manual? My IS250 Auto has a snow mode (so starts off in 2nd,etc), but I don't think I've ever seen anything similar on a manual box... It shows it in the handbook for manual gear box.. My assumption is it will electronically de-sensitise the throttle. On the auto it clearly influences gear change also. I dont think pwr mode does anything throttle wise as the manual doesnt have it - its only an auto box gear change point difference (I think). The throttle response is better in pwr as the revs are generally higher giving that natural effect...
  21. I've tweeted Lexus UK and asked them what s stands for. They have replied with the answer it does stand for sport. I've followed up with a question in what way is it a sport mode - wether it has different parameters by default from d for max performance? Or is it just a generic name for a mode which merely allows setting of the max gear allowed..... I want the truth!! Update - after some more discussion they think I mean the drive mode selector on current cars as they've stated it alters throttle and steering set up. Ive sent them a pic of the mk2 IS auto selector showing them the "s" I actually mean...
  22. yeah i take those points. I guess its horses for courses. I find s mode in normal driving to be clunky, laggy and somewhat pointless (given you've purchased an auto in the first place) in most driving conditions. I suspect the paddles where fitted give s an additional novelty value? The scenario you describe is for me the only use of s outside staying in a low gear for serious hill climbing or descending - you can guarantee a set gear above the right speed and therefore where the engine is in the rev band before commencing a manouver. D works better for economy, smoothness and is fine for getting some speed on (esp combined with pwr) - you just need to not be afraid of giving it some throttle. On public roads the car has all the oomph I need iin d I guess. One possible general disadvantage with s though - if Ai shift maps the ect to gentle economy driving due to how you've driven, then you flick to s and disable the Ai shift, does s keep the ect within the parameters of the box at time of switch (ie that it "inherited)? as oppose to d which would adapt to a more spirited driving style.....I suspect its possible as the gear you get by default in s can be influenced by the AI shift prior to engaging s.
  23. PhilipK - I was not trying to suggest it is sequential - I just read some where that s stood for sequential. Cracksta - agree with you definitions 100%. makes me think that the s stands for "selection" mode - at least its the nearest s to what that mode if for. apologies for going off topic (ie 0-60 times) but have found this from Lexus: AI shift: Think of Artificial Intelligence Shift as a gearbox that can read your mind. When you want relax and just cruise, it gives you smooth automatic gearchanges. When you want to press on, the changes become quicker and crisper. So how can it predict your mood-- Sensors monitor the movement of the accelerator pedal, the car's speed and the road conditions. Then, using complex algorithms, the system determines your intent and makes intelligent choices about gear selection. It even changes down intuitively when you are going downhill to give you more engine braking. From the handbook: The AI-SHIFT automatically shifts the gear to the optimal position according to the driver performance and driving conditions. The AI-SHIFT automatically operates when the shift lever is in the D position. (Shifting the shift lever to the S position cancels the function.) So for variable speed of the actual shifts, (quicker and crisper) you need to be in d not s. Also noticed that the manual cars have a snow mode, so that mode probably does have a throttle map to de - sensitise
