  2. I'm puzzled Malc. I thought the 400 system was mild steel? Back boxes apart, I see stainless ware underneath my lamentable 430.
  3. Erm, nothing is really for sale Mike. I was merely promoting the notion that a wrinkles-removed 430 was superior to any 400. (I'd add a fair degree of emoticons at this dangerous point but my tablet is being moody again) :) Then best not to include phrases like "a set of coilovers that I can sell to one of you lot" Mike. Club moderator. ........ "in ten years time". My apologies for any offence.

  5. But which 400 Brian? :) Only the 430 has massage seats that I can install elewhere for her ladyship; & a set of coilovers that I can sell to one of you lot & still not be out of pocket on the whole car in ten years time. NB: anyone who believes all of that needs to go on a course, fast :0) Selling is for Gold Club Members only. Mike.
  6. Gentlemen, as per a few older threads, I thought I would cap off the rear pipework to get the system (I hope) working again in the front. Any pointers to the best spot? I'm hoping it is to one side rather than down the middle. Thxs.
  7. Not impressed by no. 10. Toyota will claim that a certain superb and reliable 60 yr old nitrogen and oil suspension system isn't 'air', but I know which I would rather own and maintain. As for the bamboo steering wheel, and the collapsible column, were they getting desperate?...
  8. & I thought I was being cruel Malc. Yes they (400) sure are. IIRC that is why I waited for a 430 with coils :) Oh look, the vsc light is having a day off again, yippee!
  9. Thxs Tony. That was really lousy luck, my commiserations; for what they are worth. There was a time when I would have felt compelled to find out why.
  10. Hmmm, thinks (& that can be struggle these days)....West midlands...erm, perchance did you buy the car from 'Lexuschap'? ;) Retreats to bunker. PS: but it hasn't broken down, i.e. stranded you at the roadside in 18 months ownership of a highly complex old car.
  11. One is in awe Simon. Have a knighthood from me! Some years ago I read 'Have you a weekend to spare' & sent the link to a few equally aging car enthusiast friends for their amusement. Now I own one of the darned things; & I bought it after rejecting the idea of a S-type! May I ask which is your favoured S-type forum please? :)
  12. Did you loose the radiator coolant as well? This is what puzzled me. Tony said said he had lost the fluid rather than the box taking in rad water. I've had two epicyclic auto boxes dump their fluid onto the road and lose drive, but never did it damage the box in any discernable way. Drag home - repair pipe (usually) - refill & drive. I'm still using one of the cars five years on, a W124.
  13. An easy flight; & just think of that glorious drive across the uncluttered roads of south-west Europe :) PS how the ** do I update my details on 'update' with my tablet???
  14. Silly boy! Anyway, Lanarkshire is not really on the way to the New Forest!! It's in Portugal, & being English for my sins I really must update that setting!
  15. Psst. Phil, for £4,000 less you can own one the same age as yours, with an excellent set of coilovers already fitted :)
  16. How about a demo video? Or would that throw up some H and S issues, like loosening the transmission oil cooler joint; or being clubbed to death by your neighbours?
  17. It's mine I tell you. I saw it first: "This car will go on forever" http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-LEXUS-LS430-BLUE-AUTO-LUXURY-/181767430100?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a522edfd4
  18. So not all Lexus rads fail the Valeo mixing way. - (Now there was a case for a class action when there was an epidemic of failures some years ago. It's possibly still happening) http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-LEXUS-LS430-AUTO-BLUE-/231583901172?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item35eb79e5f4 ........ Being picky, the goal is really transmission oil temperature maintenance, so surrounding transmission oil pipes with rad temperature liquid is a good thing. It could be said that keeping the oil temperature low is not that good an idea. A UK winter, driving in below zero temperatures plus wind chill; but don't ask me what the alternative is for us hapless owners.
  19. Why not phone bc racing instead? http://www.bc-racing.co.uk For comparison I wish I could find the spring and damper rates for the (non existent in the uk) standard Lexus item. Terms like 'street', never mind 'racing' imply a ride quality that would fail to cossett.
  20. We are with you all the way Simon http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/x/couple-laptop-beach-18605501.jpg
  21. This one?http://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls430/445122-how-to-remove-rear-seats-01-03-ul.html#post5765677 It will be cooling down soon, so I will perform a gentle exploratory.
  22. You forgot the suspension Phil. It's deflation is overdue on age, and about due on miles. LexusChap had a collapsed 430 some months ago. He just about got a thousand for it.
  23. That £850 will be +shipping, import tax (10%?), & vat of course. Yes, sorry Phil. I'm not too good at that these creaky back days. However, if when you want a holiday in Portugal in the next couple of months you are welcome to dismantle my back seat as a practice run. I might get the 'somewhere behind the back rest' rattle fixed as a bonus BTW: regarding my dash fault issue. The vsc/red triangle display vanished yesterday, two days after I sprayed the maf with Screwfix 'electrical cleaner'. The maf looked immaculate beforehand so I nearly didn't bother. So I guess I'll be dong gone ...... sorry
