  1. The pop up bonnet is a non issue as far as I am concerned, are we going to worry about the cost of an air bag going of and having to replace a steering wheel or dash? Of course not, it is part of the cost of safety, next we will be arguing for bull bars to protect the front of the car from nudges-would certainly have saved rayaans some money!
  2. I feel for you, but is's do seem to be attracted to garage doors, I had mine a week when my son operated the garage door, my car was parked in front and as the door opened, it hit the bumper and rear lights, fortunately silver is very forgiving and mostly polished out, the inner rear light and some minor crazing but not noticeable, the garage door was a right off!
  3. I want to see these tyres which are narrower at the front - presumably to help aerodynamics? Triangular tyres- interesting!
  4. I think you will find just switching the front is a no-no, in slippery conditions, the rear will break away very easy, as the front will grip harder than the rear, have a look on you tube.
  5. I'd like to know where you can get a year old Premier for less than £25k as the chart suggests!
  6. I agree with Ganzoom here, I recently bought my IS premier, for what seemed like an obscene amount, more than double the price of any other car I have ever purchased, we had the choice of investing the money in another flat to rent or buy the car, the car won! I justified it as I work 60-70 hours a week, had 2 days of in the last 4 years, and use the car for work, it will save me a £1000 a year in fuel costs, and thought it was time we treated ourselves. I will probably run this car for 8- 10 years, at the current rate putting on about 150-200k in that time, hopefully the car will take it, and compared with a "boring" car might have cost a couple of hundred pounds a year extra (just need to find some sensibly priced servicing!)
  7. I would expect a '63 to be about £5k less than a '64, then maybe another £5k less as trade in, so maybe £19-20k?
  8. That's unusual for a vw group car to exaggerate fuel consumption/emissions, I wonder if that is a common issue!☺
  9. .................I think you mean like fitting a v8 with a 1/4 ltr (small coke can size) petrol tank - a couple of hard accelerations and it's gone!
  10. Rayaans, I think you need to learn some economy driving techniques, I had a loan is250 for a couple of days, and achieved about 38 mpg, despite driving into London, my 30th averages about 47 mpg but can achieve 60 mpg quite easily on 20-30 mile runs. Just because you cannot achieve good figures does not mean others can't, although I must admit 46mpg from an is250 is exceptional, and I doubt if it can be easily repeated.
  11. The point being for me doing 20k+ pa it will cost me nearly £700a year in servicing, that is ridiculous money, I will probably push to 12500 intervals which is permitted getting the next minor one done to get the rattles etc sorted then have it done properly my independent mechanics rather than lexus technicians, ie somebody who can diagnose and repair av fault rather than just change parts.
  12. But isn't mercedes servicing only every 20,000 miles? So similar cost but half as often?
  13. My previous car had a foot brake, and I also wondered whether the pedal would end up through my shin in an accident. Actual use does not bother me, as I never use it, just leave the car in park!
  14. Mine only has the 1 rattle, seeming to come from the central front speaker, if I push the trim above the screen it stops. I do find general road noise is very high, my 9 year old hyundai santa fe is far quieter.
  15. Servicing is a big concern to me, I am expecting to do about 20,000 miles, which effectively is 2 services at nearly £700 a year, my previous diesel 4x4 auto cost me about £250 a year and that was far more complex in terms of servicing. I know the services can be extended to 12,500 which helps, but still unsure what to do, whenever the car has been into lexus it always comes back with dirt marks on the leather, and generally I feel their care and ability to look after the car for basic servicing is no better than a good independent, but for the same of a couple of thousand pounds over the life of the car, to maintain full dealer history it could be worth it.
  16. My boot does not fly up, literally just opens an inch or two.
  17. I have one on my is,never not had a spare before, but then also a couple of hundred thousand miles since I had a puncture, so not over concerned, I wondered though is there any way to just use the pump on its own just to top up the tyres?
  18. As colin says get your 12v battery checked, I have just had similar on my 2yr old is, and it was a dead battery, the 12v battery on the is, is very small, once it weakens it struggles to start the hybrid system.
  19. I had a similar experience, I have an IS Premier, and last week had an "exec" loan car with 17" wheels, I couldn't believe the difference, the ride was much better, meaning I was more comfortable throwing it around, the noise levels were far lower, I think the wheels/tyres are chosen for style rather than comfort, I suspect as Colin says the suspension/wheels are just not suited to our roads, and effectively they have spoiled a great car for style.
  20. Why are you using the car to drive 900 yards? I am surprised you get 30mpg with use like that, it must kill the engine.
  21. I am surprised how low those figures are, I expected higher, my is does 55mpg @70 mph on a long motorway cruise, I'm sure when I had a ct200h as a loan car it seemed a lot better?
  22. Same colour as the loan car I have currently and in bright evening sun it looks stunning. Where did you get the flaps from?
  23. I have just picked up a loan car without the ML system, and have to admit the difference in sound quality is pronounced between FM and DAB, this time in favour of FM, DAB sounding quite muffled, so I think the difference is more down to the sound system rather than how it is received.
  24. Not all DAB is mono and 64kbps! Listening to Radio 2 for example is much clearer in DAB than FM. To me the content is ore important than how it is broadcast, DAB lets me listen to stations like Absolute, which again the quality is perfectly acceptable, realistically at 70mph wind noise and tyre roar drown out most imperfections.
