  1. True, but then it wouldn't automatically start when the car is turned back on.
  2. Thanks Ian. One thing though, did it automatically stop and start the Ipod when turning the car on and off? For me, that is the biggest annoyance.
  3. Thanks Linas. Well, it is a shame that it is for the facelift only. No, I don't plan any headunit swaps. I assume that on the later models with the Lexus kit fitted it was full integration? Yeah, I have seen a few online kits about, which is why I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience.
  4. Yeah, it is very poor placement. Have you moved the fuel valve assembly? In that picture, it is still in place. Otherwise, yes, you can unbolt the filter, which might make it easier. I can't remember exactly, but I think in the end we might have removed the hoses from the other end because they weren't coming off the side the manual suggested.
  5. I am afraid there is no trick to it, you just do the best you can. Have you unbolted the filter? Are you also doing the sediment filter? As for the manual, does it look like this?
  6. Hello all. As you guys are no doubt aware, the IS is a pain for AUX integration since you have to manual start and stop it, and it has no car controls. I know there are some old threads on the subject, but I was wondering if there has been any advances recently for this? Also, I keep seeing mention of a Ipod Integration Kit from Lexus, but I can't find any info on it? Do Lexus offer an option? Thanks.
  7. You can check if your car needs a recall here: https://forms.toyota.co.uk/lexus-recall-checker I have checked yours and it seems there are no recalls outstanding.
  8. Welcome You really are a Lexus family, aren't you? Pictures are always welcome. Surely you have one with all 3 of you posing with your cars?
  9. My mechanic friend and I managed to do it on axle stands. It took 8 hours in the end! Although he did say that if he needed to do it again, it wouldn't take anywhere near that long. It is a complete pain of a job, I agree. It has been a year since I had it done, so I am trying to remember what we did. Can you post a picture of the bits you are having trouble with? Might help. Also, you say you have the official Lexus procedure, so is that from the workshop manual?
  10. Mine will run at 1200rpm when it is cold and the air con is running. Once it is fully warmed up, the will stay at 800. You say that after 7-10mins it goes to 1200 and stays there, but is that a short while after, or have you gone on a longer run with it? Mine can vary how often and long it stays at 1200, but to be honest, after a while I don't even notice it anymore. By the way, is that the standard sat nav?
  11. Well, I suppose if you didn't pay for the shipping, then it isn't too bad a deal. I am surprised about the rust though, since most cars that are a few years old will have some sort of surface rust on them. Seems very excessive to strip the interior out to have a look. Probably because they don't like imports.
  12. Congrats Alan. Any other pics of the car? Always like to see some more. As for the idle, does it go down to 800rpm if you turn the air con off?
  13. Wow, that is impressive. You must be quite friendly with the people at the dealer then. Can we perhaps know a bit more about it? Pics of how it is looking, how the mileage was racked up, any other problems apart from this one?
  14. Thanks for the picture. Same unit as mine, so good for using as a reference. They don't allow rust on cars in New Zealand then? Wouldn't it have been easier and less expensive to just get another one locally?
  15. They take the sat nav unit out as part of an inspection? That is extensive. What else do the remove? It must be annoying since it can cause niggles like you have experienced. By the way, I don't suppose you have a picture of the front of your unit? Always useful for reference. Thanks.
  16. Seeing a UK plated car in France is a little more unusual then just seeing one down the street. Perhaps Normski wants to compare notes on what the place was like? Or, it was just a surprising coincidence, which would be even more unusual if the person also happens to be a member of this forum. No harm in asking.
  17. No probs. I am getting a little frustrated with the Lexus Extended Warranty. Not from a personal point of view, since I have had my claims accepted, but from others having problems with items that should clearly be covered. We had one not to long ago where they denied a claim for a hybrid battery, even though it is specifically mentioned as being covered by the warranty. Took a bit of back and forth before it was settled. And now we have dampers, which again should be included. If you go through the documentation, it is quite specific on what is parts are covered, but of course, there is mention of serviceable items, which is vague. As you can see in the picture I posted, suspension is mentioned, so how can they deny the claim? As for the MOT protected parts, what I was told was that they are only protected if in a dangerous state. Normal wear and tear isn't included. The example given was a suspension ball joint. Apparently, if it just worn, it is down to you, but if it about to fall off completely, then they will take care of it. Strange one, and in practice, the MOT cover doesn't really do anything and is meaningless. Either way, I would pursue it all the way to the ombudsman if I were you, unless they can provide you with written documentation that states it isn't covered.
  18. First things first, prepare yourself for a torrent of replies telling you that it is madness to buy one If you make it though and are still determined, then read this thread: It is for the petrol version, but a lot of it still applies. Other than that, a few things to look out for: Make sure there isn't coolant sprayed over the engine bay as this is one of the signed of the head gasket issue that is well documented. If the car doesn't boost cleanly from about 1600rpm, then it has a possible EGR blockage. Also, although you can't tell by looking, DPF on these (as well as most diesel cars) tend to block up if you do too many short journeys. If there is a judder when moving off, it is most likely the dual mass flywheel that is knackered. Not a cheap fix. It's late, so perhaps I have forgotten something, but I think that is most of the major things to look out for.
  19. Sorry, perhaps I didn't make my post clear, but I haven't had the dampers replaced under warranty. I just thought that if you needed them it would be a good idea. Was your previous warranty also a Lexus one? I can't comment on the previous warranty, but under the extended one it is covered, which suggests it shouldn't be classed as wear and tear. As you can see, no mention of suspension in the 'not covered' section, but it is listed in the 'covered' bit. Of course, being a pre existing condition, I can appreciate why the new policy won't agree to replace them.
  20. Oi! fish tanks are seriously business! Congrats on the baby I do agree with Bob on the idea of another car though. I am sure you can use the IS to get away when it all gets too much
  21. Not much to see I am afraid. Standard looking Zenki. Here are some photos I have: When I got it, I knew the turbo was knackered, so replaced it. What I didn't know was that the cast exhaust manifold was cracked as well. Luckily, the dealer I bought it from agree to pay for a replacement. Unfortunately, that meant a standard Nissan one instead of s stainless manifold. I remember one time, when I was fitting braided steel hoses for the turbo oil feed, I was doing up the banjo bolt to the block when the ratchet suddenly lost its tension. That sinking feel occurred instantly as I knew I had stripped the thread in the block. Sure enough, when I started the car, oil poured everywhere. After a lot of faff, I got a local machine shop to tap and helicoil the thread, while also machining a new banjo bolt out of a standard one. Good old days indeed. Still, I do miss going around corners sideways I do envy your 'do it yourself' attitude. You build log in impressive, and I look forward to seeing what you do next to it.
  22. Just read the sxoc thread. You are very handy with the spanners. The car has had a lot of work done, and it is impressive how you have turned it around and improved it. You are making me miss my old one now even more.
  23. Been a while since I browsed SXOC I will have a read. Yeah, I had some rust issues too, but thankfully nothing too serious. It was my suspension that was knackered. Needed all doing including all the bushes. I remember one time almost whacking a barrier because my front right shock failed and did no damping at all. It is a shame they are getting so expensive; well, from a buyers point of view anyway. I bought mine for £3000, but we are talking over 10 years ago. 20 huh? You are doing well, aren't you? Insurance must be a pain. Someone welded the diff on the GS? That is weird. Yep, around Basingstoke myself.
  24. Welcome Nice looking car you got there, although I can definitely appreciate why you might want something a bit more comfortable Back in the good old days, I used to have an S14. Great car, and so much fun. Couple of small bits from Apex, not nothing major. I would love another at some point, but it seems unlikely at the moment I can see you have the front mounted intercooler, so I was wondering what else you have added?
