  1. Welcome Nice looking car there. Any more pics? My friend used to have a CTR. Good car, but the revvy nature can get a bit tiresome after a while. Oh, and perhaps I am reading this wrong, but it sounds like you were specifically looking for a IS that was pre 2006 and manual? If so, how come?
  2. Yep. I have an extended warranty on mine and it is very good. It has been used a few times, and apart from one instance, has been quick and hassle free in sorting out the problems. The last instance was a few weeks ago for a stuck rear caliper: The warranty company got back to the dealer within one hour of submitting the claim approving the work. Mine has paid for itself at least 3 times over, and if you need dampers, then it is really is worth your while getting it.
  3. When I spoke to my main dealer, the investigation cost was £86 inc VAT. The other thing is that if they do find a fault that the warranty company agree to fund, they will also pay the investigation charge. What I have done previously is call the warranty company and confirm with them that, if it the fault I think it is, they will cover it. In this case though, it might be better to go to a good independent.
  4. Hello. Funnily enough, I too have a 220d that I am thinking of trading for a GS450h eventually when my long commute comes to an end. The IS250 sounds a little strange. A main dealer selling a car that is non approved? Didn't think they did that? Also, the used approved warranty is £895 for 2 years, so where did the £400 come from?
  5. Don't get me wrong, I am not saying it is unsuitable; in fact, just the opposite, that is an impressive choice for a 20 year old to make. After all, it is a rather sensible choice. I wish I had that much sense when I was 20

  8. Welcome Nice looking car you got there. I was going to say I hope you got it cheap, but then I saw the list of things the dealer sorted out. I have never heard of a dealer going to such lengths to sell a car before. I am of the opinion that the 220d's aren't as bad as people make out. Yes, they are not as good as the 250's, but I think they are no worse than any other modern diesel car. Hopefully you will enjoy yours for some time to come.
  9. Well, I can't comment on Wolverhampton, but at my local in Reading, you are most likely to get s CT. They told me they have 6 courtesy cars; 3 of which are CT's, 2 IS's (including a 200t), and 1 NX. First time, I requested an IS and got it, but the second time it was the CT. Your best bet is to request it since the service guy told me they are allocated on the day.
  10. Very good guide Do you have any picture of the manifold or inlet after you took the manifold off? This seems to be a more and more common problem as mileages increase. Guides like this give me more confidence to have a go. Did you change the manifold gasket? Mine has 120,000 miles (hit 120k this morning ), so I think it might benefit from a clean.
  11. I have also suffered from this problem. My Ipod produces static interference as well as my phone, so I ask Lexus to look into it while it was in for a service. The technician came out and listen to the fault, and he confirmed it was there. However, when it came to collect the car, they said that it didn't do it with his device. The car had to go in a second time, so I asked them to look into it again because I had tested it on my phone and it was still doing it. This time the dealer sent me a video showing me that it didn't make the noise with the technicians phone. Thankfully the static on mine isn't that bad and you can only hear it when the music isn't playing. Oh, and apparently there is no UK TSB for this problem, and they will not consider the US one because they claim the cars are different.
  12. You can't just put adblue in the car, and I don't know of any additives that would affect the EGR and DPF systems. The best method is still a long blast up a motorway once in a while. That and taking the EGR off and cleaning it. Your neighbour probably hasn't used the car enough for it to become a problem yet, but I suspect it is only a matter of time.

  14. You mean Car Giant? Most of their cars come with warrantied mileages, so you can take it back if you found it was clocked. The problem with your example is doing 40k a year is quite rare. The average is still around 10k. So how much you going reduce that by? 5k? That wouldn't effect the cars value that much and wouldn't be worth the risk of getting caught.
  15. Hey mate. Thanks for the info. After removing the décor and bogwood, the ph in the tank seems to have stabilised. It is going down still, but quite slowly. In the meantime, it was another busy day working on the tank! Plumbed the UV Steriliser again cause I wasn't happy with, full clean of the tank and pump as well as changing the substrate from gravel to sand. Of course, this mean the tank is seriously cloudy now, but it is clearing up slowly. These fish are going to give me a heart attack Had to carry 30kg up two flights of stairs because of them today. Still, it is coming along, so hopefully the result will be worth it.
  16. Welcome Yep, the egr system on these diesel cars is not good. Wish I could block mine off somehow, but of course, it is not that simple. I am currently get 38mpg with a mixture of a roads and motorway driving. I cleaned my egr when I got the car a year ago, and then did 5000 mostly motorway miles on it before taking it apart for another look; again, it was covered in soot. As mine is about to hit 120k miles, I can't help but wonder what condition the inside of the inlet manifold is. If it anything like the bit you can see when you take the egr off, then it is in terrible shape. In fact, there are a few pictures floating about on this forum where the inlet port is almost completely blocked. If I knew for sure that this was the case, I would try and get it cleaned out, but it costs too much to just do without proof. What I really need is an endoscope with a small enough head and good resolution to have a look inside. Did try one a while back, but the head was too big to fit around the corner of the manifold.
  17. The tank has been setup and cycled for about a year now. The problem is, with the tap water at 30 and goldfish being dirty fish, keeping it under 40 would be hard. Tried for a while before switching to DI. Nitrates were at 80 at one point! Apart from the cloudiness, another problem appeared the other day. I tested the ph for the first time in a while and it was sitting at 4! Did a water change, which brought it back to 7, but then the next morning it was back to 4 again. Have taken all the ornaments and the bog wood out of the tank and did another water change and it seems to be hold at 7.3 for the moment. I am amazed my fish have been able to cope so well! They are not showing any signs of distress at all. I do appreciate you help Robb, thanks a lot. However, I am mindful that we are derailing your thread!
  18. Well, you know my opinion Yes, it would be eligible for the extended warranty provided it passed its visual safety check without issue. I am puzzled though; 2008 SE-L, with Moonroof, ML and Navigation/reverse camera, 63k miles, FLSH for £2800? How come so cheap?
  19. Unfortunately, I am on a metered water supply. I have tried some 'goldfish proof' plants that have been eaten, but never heard of onion plants before, so will have a look. Here are a couple of snaps: The two plants of on the far right at the front are the only real ones, and as you can see, there is not much left. The water is a little cloudy as well, hence why I installed the UV Steriliser at the weekend.
  20. Sorry, should have provided some figures. The nitrate isn't too bad at the moment, it is on 13. The problem is, it is going up by more than 1 point a day. Perhaps I am feeding the fish too much, but I have 2 1 year old comets in a 120 litre tank, so was hoping for a slower build up. If I could use tap water, I wouldn't have a problem doing many changes. It is just having to go to the aquarium to get it and then lug it up the stairs that is a pain. When I get home, I can upload a couple of pics of my current setup if you like? Thanks for the help, appreciate it mate.
  21. That is a great looking tank! Thanks for the video. I wish I could manage something like that. Mine is rather boring at the moment with only a piece of bogwood and some plants. Yep, got my bacteria going with 0 ammonia and nitrites, it is just the nitrates that are going up too fast! Currently doing fortnightly water changes using DI water since the local tap water has 30 ppm nitrates in it. Pain in the arse cause I live in a second floor flat.
  22. Got a couple of Comet Goldfish at the moment, so nothing exotic. Had a few bristlenose Catfish for a while. I inherited the Goldfish from someone keeping them in a bowl, so not much choice really I have only been doing it a year, and it has taken quite a bit of time, effort and money, but I do like watching them swim around. People make it sound so simple, but I have had so many problem with Nitrates, algae, fin rot, cloudy water, ph levels and so on, that either I am unlucky or it is not as easy as it looks! If something were to happen to these fish (have had a few casualties already), then I am tempted to convert to marine or cold salt water. Gone too far now to not have some sort of fish!
  23. Unfortunately, the warning screen can't be turned off, but you do get used to it. Just becomes part of the start up routine. Congrats on the car. Some come on, more details and pictures are required.
  24. Nice one. I used to get annoyed when manufacturers made you take off the inlet manifold to get to the plugs, but since it is once every 60k in this case, it is fair enough. It is good to get things done yourself. On a completely unrelated topic, it took me over 5 hours of messing around to fit a UV Steriliser to my fish tank today, and despite being a complete pain in the arse, you can't help but feel good when you turn it on and it works fine. By the same token, I do miss tinkering with my cars.
