  1. Is that a 60k service they have quoted for? That one is quoted as £445, along with a 100k service for £545. These are prices I found on the Lexus website.
  2. I agree with Rayaan. Considering that the AA cover is roughly £238 for two years, the actual cost of the Lexus warranty is only £257 for two years. That is an absolute bargain. Yes, you have to get it serviced at the main dealer, but that isn't necessarily very expensive. At the moment, it would cost you £195 for a minor service, and £345 for the major one. However, next year, you car would qualify for the Essential service plan for car that are 5+ years old, so then it would be £139 and £309.
  3. Good looking car you got there. If your judder problem is like mine was, then you are looking at a new flywheel. Hopefully that isn't the case though.
  4. Really? There were plenty of them with the nav fitted when I last looked. As for what to look out for, all you need is within this excellent post:
  5. This is a good point. Even if it was classed as wear and tear, can something that is hardly ever used wear out in this space of time? My understanding is that it uses a motor with cogs? in which case, which part is supposed to wear? I agree with John, complete nonsense.
  6. Hope it all goes well! That is a lovely looking IS. Shame you don't see more in that colour.
  7. Wow, really? I am going to have to investigate this. Thanks for the heads up.
  8. Has the Smart Cover changed recently? I know this is an old thread, and the website now says something different to what has being said here. For starters, it says you have 30 days from the date of the incident to claim. Second, it says that the bonnet and roof are covered for stone chips while the rest of the car is insured for scuffs, dents, scratches and chips. It also states a £500 claim limit with a total limit of £3000 for the cover period (although not sure if this has changed or not). So, with this in mind, is it worth getting now? Also, is it still £500 (per year I assume)? Thanks.
  9. Please excuse my ignorance, but isn't the point of the dye to see where the leak is? Couldn't the ATS guy have a look and see where it was when it was pressurised?
  10. I agree with this, and I am glad to have someone who see it the way I do. I wish I had an ultrasonic cleaner. Although, if you are driving it in London, might I suggest 6 monthly cleanings? As Phil has correctly pointed out, you only hear about problems on forums, not from all the happy owners. I have had a few failures, but nothing specific to the IS, just diesels and cars in general (dual mass flywheel and rear caliper). They may not be as good as their petrol counterparts, but overall I think the IS is a fantastic car, and very good value for money. One thing I would recommend is the warranty; They are not cheap when they go wrong. £300ish isn't bad, but the official one for £995 (went up recently ), is still good value when you consider it is for 2 years and includes complete AA breakdown cover, which would normally set you back £300. Looking forward to some photos.
  11. It should mention Lexus Roadside Assistance in the warranty paperwork you signed? Also, Steve is right, I got my membership card in the post afterwards.
  12. Welcome I can't really comment on the brakes, but on mine there is a little bit of travel before they bite. I actually prefer it that way though as it seems easier to modulate than the more overservo'd cars. What spec did you get? Having lived in London for a long time, I certainly agree that parking marks and dents are an unfortunate inevitability. Well, if you wanted a diesel automatic IS, then you are out of luck since they didn't make any Although the IS250 Auto is a great car by all accounts. Looking forward to seeing some pictures.
  13. Well, a good dealer should make life a little easier. Personally, I would query the headlight adjusters with the warranty people and see what they say. Nothing to lose after all. I don't think you are going to find a definitive guide to what is considered wear and tear. According to one of the technicians I spoke to, it can even depend on who deals with your claim as to whether it is accepted or not. Sometimes you do get some strange results. For example, I had a dual mass flywheel replaced under warranty. I was told by the dealer that it should be covered, but still, with my car having travelled over 110k miles at that point, I could see it being classed as wear and tear. After all, some manufacturers are claiming that it should be replaced along side a clutch change as regular maintenance. On the other hand, I had a claim for engine mounts that was rejected. Now, again, I can see how this can be class as wear and tear, but it was the dealer that told me that it should be covered, and in fact, in all the years the car has been out, they have never sold a set for replacement. I was prepared to argue the case based on what I was told, but in the end, the dealer came to the rescue and did a deal for me to get them changed cheap.
  14. I think headlight adjusters should be covered, and I would argue the case if it was refused. What is good about the warranty is that it does clearly state what is not covered. Most parts on the car aren't subject to wear and tear. Wear and tear items are things like brakes, suspension components, exhausts, lights, fuses, etc.. It should be common sense really, but sadly that is not always the case. That line you quoted, is it from Section 4.2? In which case, it is talking about the fitting of the part, not the part itself. So what they are saying is that you can't claim on the insurance for an item that might fail soon but is still working. The bit regarding parts is section 4.1. As you can see, that section doesn't mention anything about wear and tear.
  15. Well, this is odd cause I just spoke to Lexus Warranty myself and asked them about the GS 450h hybrid battery. The guy I spoke to was absolutely clear that it was covered by the warranty. He even stated that they don't wear out. In fact, he told me that they had approved a claim for one today, which could very well have been yours Saul. He also stated that as long as the car was less than 10 years old and within 140,000 when the warranty was purchased, then it doesn't matter how old or used it is during the covered period. (By the way, my car is 8 years old and had 120k miles on it when I last claimed). I have made a couple of claims on mine, and they have been quick with no hassle, so I still think the warranty is worth it. It is just a strange, and hopefully a one off, situation that you have found yourself in. Glad it is sorted now though.
  16. This is nonsense. You need to speak to the warranty company directly since they are a separate entity from the dealer network. Do you have your terms and conditions paperwork? I have just had a look at mine, and it state the following: Section 1.1, subsection (h): (Eligible vehicle) is less than 10 years old and has less than 140,000 miles on its milometer at the start of the first warranty period if the vehicle was not purchased through the Lexus Approved Used Car Programme with the benefit of a Lexus Extended Warranty; So, as long as your car was not 10 years old when you bought the warranty, it is irrelevant how old it is now. Section 4.1, subsection (c): (Excluded parts and Operations) Any battery other than the high voltage battery in a hybrid vehicle that may be used for the propulsion of such vehicle. So only the standard battery is excluded, which means the hybrid battery is covered by the warranty regardless. Call them on 0330 100 3312 and find out what is going on. Hopefully they will see sense.
  17. The dealer didn't ask the warranty company. The reason was that, after investigation, they determined that the mirror was fine, but it was my non Lexus windscreen that was the problem. Yeah, my local (Lexus Reading) also hedged on whether the caliper would be covered, but I was pretty confident it would be since, like you, I have heard of others getting it done. Incidentally, within your warranty documents is a phone number to contact the warranty people directly. I have spoken to them a few times and they are always very helpful. If I suspect I might need something fixed, I give them a call first and they usual confirm whether it will be covered or not. Of course, they can't guarantee it is covered because they need a report from the dealer, but that should be just a formality.
  18. Had one of my rear calipers replaced a few weeks ago under warranty as well. Got a video report from the dealer showing me it was seized. Apparently, Lexus Warranty got back to the dealer in under an hour authorising the work. Bonus was that the dealer had the part in stock, so picked up the car a couple of hours later. From my experience, the warranty is definitely worth it. I have certainly had my moneys worth out of it a few times over. Although I am a bit surprised and pleased that they changed the rear blind for you. I would have thought it was interior trim, which they claim isn't covered. I asked about a possible rear view mirror replacement last time my car was in for a service, and I was told by the service guy that the warranty wouldn't cover it.
  19. A 65 plate car? You didn't have it long, did you?
  20. Welcome Gary I too was a serial BMW owner until I tried something different. Although I do still like the BMW's. Yeah, it is a real pain to retrofit the sat nav. From what I understand, it is not the unit itself that is the problem, but all the different modules you need to fit at the same time, e.g. GPS unit, microphone, steering wheel controls, etc... 40's and a granddad already? You don't hang around, do you?
  21. Thanks Ceri. I do need to give it a clean and get some pictures at some point. I love DC2's, although I have never been in one. The idea of a smallish, light and nippy car appeals to me. Also, high revving is more fun. Unfortunately, I think I have now missed out on the opportunity to own one. I did spend quite a few hours in the passenger seat of my friends CTR though, so had a bit of fun. He had a GruppeM intake fitted, so the engine note would shift when the VTEC kicked in, which sounded awesome. Although the Tein adjustable coil overs he had weren't so much fun. Can't remember exactly how long ago this was, but he bought it brand new, so it is over a decade. I am more of an armchair motorist now, so no more boy racer cars with rock hard suspension for me. Something tells me this is not a problem for you Ceri, since you mentioned being a kid when fifth gear was on.
  22. Welcome That is a clean looking IS you got there. What colour is it? Also, any more pictures?
  23. I have a 2008 IS 220d SE-L in Windsor blue with Ivory leather. I am afraid I have been lazy and don't have any pictures of mine, expect one: Mine is the one on the right, next to an identical spec 250. It has been just over a year and 11k miles since I bought it, and I love being in it. Not the greatest drive in the world, but a very nice place to sit for those long motorway journeys.
  24. Hey. If you bought it from a dealer a month ago, why not take it back for them to have a look at? It should still be their responsibility if something is wrong, so there is no harm in trying.
