Manual. The problem arose in two ways. Either: When the car started and turned the lights on (dipped) automatically, or I flick the stalk to full beam and then back to dipped In both scenarios, especially in colder weather, it seems, it would leave my offside headlight about half way between proper dipped and full beam, maybe 1 out of 4 or 5 times. I didn't update this thread since my original post, sorry, but I'm happy to report I did get it sorted on my car. I stuck some sheets of paper to the inside back wall of my garage, cycled my lights through the 'proper' dipped and full-beam settings and drew on the sheets where the light *should* end for each. I then recorded some video with my phone as I flicked several times from dipped to full beam and back manually and showed within about a minute that coming down from full to dipped didn't always work - it clearly stopped about half way between. I presented this to my Lexus dealer and they replaced the light unit under warranty. I did tell them I considered it a safety concern because it absolutely is, but I think they would have replaced it in any case as the evidence was clear. I haven't noticed any issues with it over the last two years.

The first time I needed to replace the tyres on my IS, I went for Dunlop Sport Maxx. I hated them! In cold weather (below about 7C) they skipped and juddered, especially when I was reversing and turning, even gently, well away from full lock. I considered winter tyres but here in the south west there are probably only 2 days in a typical year when full winter tyres would be really useful. So, when I needed to change them a few months ago, before winter set in, I decided to try Michelin Crossclimates. They were SO much better. As it stands I'll be sticking to them in future unless I find they degrade too quickly, but so far there doesn't seem to be any signs that they might.

Can confirm. I've tracked just over 31,000 miles in my IS300h on fuelly.com. Average is 46.5mpg. The summer months give about 10mpg more than the winter. I don't use Eco mode and usually have aircon running.

There's a funny (IMHO - though I'm sure it's not meant to be) instructional video on YouTube for using a Toyota paint set but of course it's actually the same thing. Me too! I reported it to Lexus a year ago after I'd had my IS300H Exec for a couple of weeks, figuring perhaps they were just set too high but was assured they were MOT-legal. Come into winter again now, of course, and have also had people flashing me angrily but have also come to realise the offside lamp does sometimes clearly light up higher and brighter on the road and the back of the car in front when it should be dipped. I haven't tried the dip-twice trick but will do so. Seems like I should book a new visit to Lexus Bristol, armed with this info, thanks!

I'm going to have to go and check re: route guidance volume. You could be right; it looks like I forgot rule #1: RTFM! I'll be down to just the one thing then. And on that topic, yes. I have done a little research and am fairly sure I can (and will) improve it by a few decibels but I believe human ears need about 3 decibels difference to notice any real difference so the improvement might not be as much as I'd really like. Sadly my local council have gone and resurfaced just about every road nearby with the typical cheap and nasty stone-chipping method. When I do get on a nice stretch of smooth asphalt(?) road surface it's a gorgeous feeling!

Seriously, the only things I think I could say I dislike are: - road/tyre noise because it really spoils the otherwise whisper-quiet drive, but that's probably more to do with the rubbish way our roads seem to be constructed and maintained than the car - satnav / entertainment system because a) the voice is a little too loud and b) I don't have the premium version so I can't update it myself and it does get caught out with revised road layouts from time-to-time. Um, that's it, I think. I can live with that!

Mildly interesting, maybe: I've had my IS300h for one year and one day today and have driven almost exactly 10,000 miles (just passed through that figure by about 20 miles this afternoon). I'm certainly happy with the fuel economy overall, though now we're heading into winter I know from last year that despite my best efforts it will drop by almost 10 mpg from where it is now. My poorest result, last February gave me 43.44mpg and my best, back in July was 52.93 (figures through fuelly.com) I received a 1-year courtesy call yesterday from Janet at Bristol Lexus, which was nice. Yes, I know she's looking forward to the point when she can legitimately start offering me an "amazing deal" on a new car but it was nice to hear from her.

I didn't think to record my fuel computer readings but Colin's figures seem to be pretty close to the ones I've been seeing: The computer does seem to overstate it by somewhere around 2.5 to 3.5 mpg. Having been tracking my experience on fuelly.com also, what struck me most was the enormous difference between fuel economy at (a very respectable) 43.4mpg in coldest part of winter - although here in the milder southwest it wasn't that cold, of course and my best in the summer at 52.9 - almost 10 miles per gallon difference. Wow!

Not if I have to store the car at -30C for 5 days before every journey! Brrrrr.

Ford Cortina, Hillman Hunter (don't ask!), Renault 5, Renault 19 1.4 Petrol, Renault 19 1.9L Turbo Diesel, Toyota Avensis 2.0L, which I admit isn't an exciting car but it served me so well for twelve and a half years and over 112,000 miles. A few niggles and hiccups along the way, of course, but generally oh so reliable!

Ouch! If they're right about the Lexus IS (2013-) then I am very sad to hear that. I hope they're not suggesting that Lexus have 'managed' the emissions in test environments as per VW Group and it's more that the test environment isn't "realistic". Assuming it's the latter then presumably Which? are in a position of being hard-pressed to put any cars as "Best Buy" unless they're pure electric..?

The bad weather, especially rain and therefore lots wet roads has definitely dragged my fuel economy down - I try to keep the car computer showing more than 50mpg but that's been elusive the last couple of tanks' full, but I'm still holding at 46.9mpg average as measured via fully.com. I'm delighted with that and am really looking forward to seeing what I can achieve when (if) we get some nice warm, dry, summer months.

​I walked to the cinema to watch Star Wars a couple of weeks ago. When I left at the end of the film it was absolutely piddling down. At that moment I genuinely thought it would have been great if I could have called my car to come and get me. About a week later (and by then with me finally just about dried out) I read about Tesla's first part of that eventual goal, with the whole coming out to you from the garage thing now being a part of their programming. I'm looking forward to it, though for the next Star Wars movie at least, perhaps I'll have to remember my umbrella.

True, but we'd have to put up with all the (lame) jokes about "crashing" and "closing all the windows", etc.

That's music to my ears! I'm a Windows (phone) fan, would love to see Lexus support for it but won't hold my breath. I'll settle gladly for not having to see the Apple or Android logo every time I drive my car

​Only had my Lexus IS300h for a month. Had to drive my daughter's Citroën C2 at the weekend. Pulled away and a short distance later, approaching a junction, gently applied the brakes... and the car started juddering! Clutch! Oops. Forgotten how terribly complicated driving used to be.

I'd like to echo what others have said and send my gratitude to you, Rayaan. I only picked my car up yesterday but, with grotty weather the last couple of days and following a trip today to visit my mum who's out in the sticks a little, the outside of my car already needs a bit of TLC. I'll be following your guidance for sure -- thanks!

Hi David Yes, that's a very fair point. I am replacing a 1999 Toyota Avensis which I bought in February 2003 and have run through more than 100,000 miles in the last twelve and a half years+. Sadly, for the Avensis, it was starting to suffer from a few too many age-related aches, pains, whines and grumbles and it was time to let it go. (insert melancholic music here). I don't know how long I'll hold the IS but I'm still not committed to replacing a car every 2-3 years just for the heck of it, or to impress the neighbours! The most likely reason for me changing early will be when a PHEV or even full electric, when range anxiety is a distant memory for everyone, or Hydrogen perhaps(?) car that suits my needs, that I like the look of (sorry, Prius, that isn't you) and that I can afford becomes a real option for me. However, am I going to enjoy showing the IS off to everyone who thought the Avensis was somehow surgically attached to my body? You betcha! ​​

Guess what? I have a Lexus! YAY! Really nice handover from Jan at Bristol Lexus, once Richard had done the necessary to remove me of the burden of a sizeable chunk of money, of course! And as for the car . . . Oh. My. God. It's an absolute delight. I managed to creep through 57mpg by the time I'd got back to my home town (total journey ~35 miles), with the help of the "Pulse and Glide" technique. It's very logical and surprisingly easy to get to that level of economy. I am a happy boy

Kids are well known for that phrase of course, but I can totally relate to them all at the moment: I ordered my first Lexus on Monday - an (ex-demo - can't afford/justify brand new this time, at least) IS300h Executive and am picking it up tomorrow morning. Can't wait. Only one more sleep to go . . .
