  1. Very rare I see another lexus is on the road except for one I pass every morning travelling in the opposite direction on our way to work. We always give each other a smile and a wave. Anybody else ever had this when passing another lexus?
  2. Some cars respond better than others when using premium fuels. for instance my previous is220d definitely felt more responsive with bp ultimate and gave slightly better milage over a tank. My old vauxhall astra 2.2 Sri came to life when using bp ultimate unleaded . I've had a bmw 328i and a 320d and premium fuels didn't seem to make any difference what so ever. I'm still in the honeymoon period with my is250 and the moment and have used nothing but she'll nitro so far but sooner or later will switch to regular fuel and will post any difference I notice in response and mpg.
  3. Rebecca I've only had my is250 a little over 2 weeks and only filled up with shell nitro so far so I can't comment on better mpg or better response but it's nice to know the extra detergents added to the fuel will be keeping the v6 nice and clean. A posh lexus deserves to be run on posh fuel 👍
  4. That's good news Rebecca 😄 Be sure to give it a good run on the motorway whenever you can (keeping to the speed limits of course ) to keep the system nice and clean and prevent future problems. 2500 rpm or more for a good 20 mins weekly should do the trick 👍 Enjoy your lovely new lexus .
  5. Normski2 God only knows how you got that sort of mpg. I couldn't even get 40mpg on a motorway run at 65mph with cruise control . driving around town I was lucky to see 30mpg and I'm quite light footed. Now my new 250 has really surprised me. I'm actually getting better mpg. Just today I did a 20 mile motorway run at 65mph in cruise and got 43 mpg. Even driving around town I'm seeing 35mpg. I was expecting poor mpg when I bought this car but I'm delighted with what I'm seeing .
  6. Your right shahpor the diesel was the wrong choice for me concidering the low milage I do but when my dad offered me a 2008 lexus is with 60000 on the clock for 2 grand I simply couldn't refuse. Despite the problems I had I still loved the car because after all its a lexus is.
  7. I remember when I first bought my lexus is220d from my dad. proud as punch I was to own such a prestige vehicle . I fell in love with the car and the lexus brand. I then joined this forum and soon became disheartened reading about the various problems associated with this vehicle. Unfortunately the majority of the problems happened to me over my year ownership beginning with the head gasket but the head gasket can go on any car. Ive owned many cars over the years and this is actually my 4th car to blow a gasket along with a ford orion 16i, rover gsi and the car I owned before a vauxhall astra 2.2 Sri with only 40000 miles on the clock. My other 2 main issues with the car being the egr and the dpf. I put this problem down to my mostly city driving. short 6 mile trips daily to work and back and trips to the shops. My dad was the same. The car rarely got any good runs at speed on the motorway . I think if this car is used as it was designed for which is lots of motorway miles then it can indeed be problem free and reliable .
  8. Would just like to add regarding the smoke problem. When I first had the car the exhaust would constantly pump out a blueish colour smoke even when warm and it was confirmed the head gasket had failed and had it replaced . However towards the end of my ownership I too would see plumes of smoke just before the engine was up to temperature . thinking it was the head gasket again I took it back to lexus Wolverhampton who confirmed it was the 5th injector. They fixed this for me the same day by doing a reprogramming of the ecu and it corrected the problem and much cheaper than what the head gasket cost.
  9. Sorry to hear about your problems with your new lexus Rebecca and trust me I know how you feel along with many other members with the same car on the forum. I had a 2008 is220d for just over a year and the car was a constant headache . Head gasket failed after 3 months. rear brake calipers seized up. egr valve failed and to top it off the wastgate on the turbo stuck. also had the crack on the dashboard and found the gearbox and engine and total mismatch . cost me an absolute fortune this car did in garage repairs . Anyway enough was enough and with the members advice on the forum to buy the 250 version that's exactly what I did and and trust me it's the best thing I ever did as this cars light years ahead of the diesel. in fact it's awesome . My advice to you is to get rid of the car as sooner or later your going to run into other problems especially with the egr valve and dpf. and I virtually guarantee that when you need pads and discs replacing on the rear you will find the calipers seized. in my case I had to have the housing replaced. If you want to stick with the lexus is as it really is a lovely looking car I strongly advise you to go for the 250 with auto box. Trust me you won't regret it.
  10. It's the same on my 250 when I start her up from cold. She revs high for a short time but soon settles down. The heater on my new 250 gets much warmer than it ever did on my 220d. seemed to take an age to warm up but the 250 heats up in no time.
  11. As far as I'm aware none of the se-I models come with paddle shifters. mines a 2010 reg and does not have the shifters on the wheel. Not as though I'm bothered because I wouldn't use them anyway. suspension has also been altered as my 2010 is250 definitely feels much better on the road than my 2008 is220d did.
  12. You won't be disappointed with an is250 trust me. I've only had mine a week and it's by far the best car I've ever owned. I love everything about it. it's soooo comfortable to drive. I actually think the in built sat nav is excellent . I've used it every day on different journeys and it works a treat. I love that posh ladies voice too lol. people say it's underpowered and it probably is for a 2.5 litre v6 engine. but it's far from a slow car. Don't believe the 8.4 seconds to hit 60. It's more like 7.4 seconds. I love my 250 se-I and so proud to own it. If I won the lottery I wouldn't swap my baby lexus.
  13. Good move balthane you won't be disappointed . Don't forget to post some snaps for us to see.
  14. OluD I took my vehicle to lexus Wolverhampton. Not sure exactly what they did but they changed the settings for the 5th injector on the ecu. The car hardly ever gave any smoke out at all as a result .
  15. You won't go wrong with an is250. I traded my 220d in for one last week and it's an absolute dream to drive. Trust me your in for a treat.
  16. I had exactly the same problem with my 220d. I found it very embarrassing when the car was chuffing out plumes of smoke most days on way to work. was told it was to do with the 5th injector .
  17. Just to add I visited lexus Wolverhampton today for a nose around and they had an is250 se-I 2010 plate for sale that also didn't have the paddle shifters fitted. I guessing they left them out for that model and year for some reason .
  18. Hi Normski2 it's the se-i in white. 2010 and only 22500 on the clock.it has lexus 18 inch wheels fitted which look absolutely awesome. has sat nav along with a lovely dark grey leather interior . I can't tell you how delighted I am with the car. I absolutely love it. Best thing I ever did was trade in my 220d. I'll be posting some pics soon to show you all.
  19. Normski2 your absolutely spot on. I've had a constant smile on my face sInce owning my awesome is250. It's a totally different car altogether than the diesel . I'm absolutely delighted .
  20. How did they come up with this figure? Yesterday I traded in my 220d with 0-60 time of 8.9 seconds for the fabulous is250 that claims to hit 60 in 8.4 seconds. Despite only being a 0.5 second difference on paper the is250 feels much much quicker on the sprint. In my opinion the 250 hits 60 in around 7 seconds with the power button on. Anybody else agree?
  21. Well today I traded in my troublesome is220d for the is250 se-l. I must say I'm absolutely delighted with the car but I've noticed there are no paddle shifters on the wheel. I thought all is250 autos had the shifters as standard . The car is 2010 plate. I'm not that fussed as wouldn't really use them but just thought it came with the paddles or am I mistaken .
  22. Roll on Friday I say when I pick up my lovely lexus is250 se-l in white. I test drove it today and as mentioned it really is light years ahead of the is220d. It's like a totally different car . This baby is a proper lexus. lexus made a major mistake in putting a tractor engine in the is.
  23. Did a 30 mile motorway drive today from cannock to Telford and back. constant plumes of white smoke from exhaust all the way. Never been so embarrassed in all my life. Sooner I get rid of this car the better.
  24. Shahpor I certainly am trading in my is220d for an is250. cant wait to get rid of it. I'm a happy bunny as I've been having sleepless nights over what's been causing my delayed turbo response . The car actually feels very responsive now with the new egr lexus fitted me Saturday and I'm actually seeing over 40mpg now. before that I was averaging 30mpg at best. Even so I've had my belly full of the diesel and I'm definitely trading it in for a 250.
