  1. I had all this aggravation myself when I owned a 220d. No matter what I did I could never get it to run right. Seriously did my head in so traded it in for the 250 and it's trouble free happy motoring now.
  2. Never understood why a direct injection was used on the 250. Why couldn't they use the multi point like they do with the 350?
  3. I had a vauxhall astra 2.2 Sri a few years back which failed the mot due to emissions. The garage adviced me to put in a bottle of fuel cleaner and give it a good belting before the re test which I did and the car passed.
  4. Put a bottle of redex in the tank and give it a good belting on the motorway for 20 mins before the test. It could well get it through jack 😉
  5. Yes I pushed the calipers back with a g clamp and it moved no problem. The discs were in a sorry state though. Got the new pads and discs on now and it's nice and smooth and quiet. I was very surprised at how easy it actually was and saved a fortune in garage labour.
  6. Shahpor when I stripped it down there was a fair amount of grease on the pins and caliper moving freely. The passenger side pads had worn nice and even.
  7. these are the 2 front pads driver side. note the uneven wear. any ideas what could have caused this?
  8. Well I've put new pads and discs on and the brakes work fine. Problem is when I jack the car up and spin the front wheels both pads are slightly rubbing on the discs Is this normal or have I done some wrong?
  9. Any revs under 1600 rpm is a dead zone on the 2220d. Obviously it moves but very slowly until around 1800 rpm. As stated a remap will significantly improve things. I didn't have a remap but found after cleaning my egr valve, running bp ultimate and installing a kn panel filter it did improve.
  10. Is200 newbie I have some grease for the slide pins that won't perish the rubber. The copper grease I need to buy is to smear on back of pads to stop any brake squealing.
  11. Great advice is200 newbie. Much appreciated. I actually feel confident about it now and can't wait to have a crack at it Friday afternoon. Just need to pick up some copper grease and I'm all set.
  12. Madasahatter thanks for your advice. I don't have any brake cleaner but have a can of engine degreaser in the garage. Will this be ok?
  13. I've just ordered front brakes from euro car parts. 2x brembo discs £47 each Set of front pagid pads £36 £130 in total and saves me £100 in garage labour costs. Going to have a crack at it Friday afternoon. This is all going to go horribly wrong I just know it.
  14. Not completely silent Rebecca no. I've never owned a car silent brakes. With radio and fan off you will always hear the pads rubbing on the discs, even more so when coming to a stop. It's only if it's excessively loud, grinding or squealing you have a problem.
  15. Well I'm glad we put him off the diesel as it would only have been a matter of time before he was back on the forum reporting problems. You wont find a better cruiser than the is250. It feels right at home on the motorway and returns surprisingly good mpg for a v6 petrol.
  16. Dont waste your money. It will do nothing to increase power what so ever. A remap is your best bet. Many people have had the is220d remapped and reported positive results.
  17. Thinking of travelling to Greece in an is220d? You'll be lucky to make it on to the motorway slip road.
  18. Certainly not a car i would consider owning again. Had mine just over a year and in that time the head gasket went. Dpf blocked up. New egr valve fitted as the old one was beyond cleaning. Rear brake calipers seized up. Turbo wastegate stuck open. Problem with 5th injector causing masses of thick embarrassing smoke. Dreadful gearbox. Massive turbo lag. If you do buy this car make sure you have the best roadside assistance package as you'll probably need it.
  19. Just to add I don't have the confidence to tackle the job myself. I tried it once on my vauxhall astra and somehow managed to get air into the system and had to call out a mobile mechanic.
  20. My brakes are still the original lexus set. Although they are lipped would still pass the mot when due in November. The front right pad has worn uneven due to the object getting stuck or so I was told. At the end of the day I'm probably just going to get the new discs and pads fitted Friday. At least it will get rid of the brake noise and give me about another 25-30k before they need replacing.
  21. Would I be better off getting the disc resurfaced? The one disc is pitted due to a stone getting wedged in the caliper but was told there is still plenty of life left in the pads and discs and will easily pass the next 2 mot tests. The only problem I'm having is a rubbing noise when I press the brake. Should I change the brakes or just live with the noise. Can hardly hear it anyway with radio on.
  22. I will mention greasing up the pins to them but would have thought they did that anyway when fitting new brakes.
  23. Madasahatter I don't have the tools to do the job and would not know where to start. I'm certainly not going to start messing with the brakes with no experience. Would rather pay extra and let the experts do the job.
  24. I've booked it in for Friday. They did show me the disc and it was in a poor condition. At least I won't need to worry about the brakes for a few years to come.
  25. Is200 newbie not been to halfords but that's what they probably would tell me. Anyway I've been to a local independent garage this morning and the problem is that an objet such as a stone had got lodged causing front disc damage. I've been quoted £235 for new front discs and pads. Is this a good price?
