  1. Plastic orange but need removed the minute clear tarmac is encountered DD Ahh, Now I understand the austrians situation, once the snows came that was it for most of the winter, permament cover of snow
  2. Have you (anyone) ever tried snow chains, I knew an austrian girl once & there they literaly used them as a normal thing to do with 2 wheel drives & thought little else of it.
  3. Now booked in with Edgware - plus have opted for an intermediate service at reduced price of £150, mainly just to get the Lexus stamp in the book. Will get 10% off parts; Lexus man said i was already getting a discounted Labour rate, How much? I use it for spares occasionally
  4. Could I expect to leave it standing 2 weeks without issue? They are currently predicting (TV) it will go down to minus 10, if that is the case its best to disconnect the negative lead......
  5. 0K thanks, must say I had forgotten about the oil filter, probably better leave it to my mechi or change that every 2 changes instead of every time.
  6. Can anyone give me some feedback on oil extractor pumps, Im interested more in the 12v versions than manuals, they seem to start around 30quid & maybe up to 60, also where are we supposed to dump used oil?
  7. I dont think so, as i said earlier grove garage brighton gave me a quote of 569 quid inc vat & they do toyota & lexus parts, its probably as near to me as it is to you, im in london.....it was originaly recomended on here by somone Grove garage http://grovegarage.co.uk
  8. Malc The starter motor is also in that challenging area too dendonc I had to have it changed 2 or 3 years ago on my '95 & it was right at between bottom manifold & body, he had to take manifold off, big job
  9. I have been quoted 569 quid by Grove garage brighton for, belt, tensioners, pulleys, water pump &* coolant change, this includes VAT. Just the belt itself & coolant change they quoted 274 inc Vat. .
  10. mr2lad so in my opinion i say go get the 460 dendonc There used to be someone on this site who would check out 400's (at least), I think he was an ex lexus mechanic (not to sure though) for those who were going to look at one, it would be helpfull for anyone thinking of buying any of the top range oldies if there were a competant person to asses a potential buy.
  11. Well thanks for all your informative posts on LS460......boy oh boy am I lucky to have a problem free '95 LS400 LPG convert, sounds like the LS400's were the least problematic lexus ever made & the only ones worth having.
  12. Thanks Robert, I checked it & the fluid is cherry red, so sounds right, it does not say ATF anywhere but on the main front label it says "Power Steering Fluid (PSF)" as I have just written it......so I assume thats halfords alternative comment to ATF, so thanks
  13. RD Dennis hi , you should use Dexron 2/3 ATF for your power steering not the regular Halfords stuff Thats ineresting, I called 2 halfords to get a bottle, the first is a smaller store (Chiswick) they asked which car etc & said that they (that store) did not stock it & refered me to Isleworth (larger store). I called them & they asked which car and what the reg number was/is, so they were being specific, they then offered 2 for "that" car one was their fluid (just under 8 quid) & another at around 9 quid, so I went & got the halfords as I assumed the difference was only in the price & both fluids were ok for my car & year & reg (both of which they asked for)....so, when you say Halfords 'Regular' do you mean some kind of halfords standard, multi cars fluid or the lexus ls fluid they claimed is for my car & year & whatever the reg tells them??? thanks
  14. Yes a basters a great idea, I checked it again & it looks clear fluid but I doubt its ever been changed in its 21 years of life, it rarely needs a small top up & any fluid of that questionable age & maybe different brands is bound to be far removed in quality & kind compared to whats supposed to be in there, I'll get baster anyway & change most of it, halfords 1 litre fluid, suitable for my car, 1 was around 7-90, anyway thanks for tips
  15. Sorcerer I'd happily travel ten times that distance if I had to Denis I agree, I would do the same, I live in London & have heard some horror stories about conversions here, including from that AA guy I mentioned. Proffess S Wales are 300 & odd mile round trip & if I ever get a conversion again thats where I'll head to, if they were in Scotland I would do the trip without hesitation..
  16. Hi, I checked the level & it looks real dirty, that said, I just transfered some power steering fluid to a transparent plastic bottle and the new stuff looks really dark so that might be why the fluid in mine looks dark.....any useful comment welcome
  17. As with most things, there's nothing better than personal recommendations from satisfied customers and LPG conversions/servicing/maintenance is no different, so I'd advise anyone and everyone who has, or is thinking of getting, Me & quite a few other LS owners on here were using Proffess, S Wales I have had excellent running ever since (appx 4 years now), I also had the AA out for another reason, when the AA guy saw the conversion he made really good comments about the fitting of what could be seen, my own long term mechanics brother also went down to get his converted because of the excellent job proffess had/have done on my, 95LS.
  18. I've decided to change the power steering fluid, does anyone know how much I need to refile, thanks
  19. Tinonline As you face the engine from front open bonnet. left front, round silver tank with a black screw cap. Sits on top of power steering pump/pulley. Dendonc Ahh, yes I know that cylinder, problem with my cylinder is that it has (I think) nothing written on the top of the cap like yours has........I called Halfords today for the fluid & they say they have it for my car at one of their bigger stores not to far from here, Xmas thanks......
  20. It does sound like something is wrong, I have run out a couple of times but filled again as normal, who did the conversion? profess garantees their parts for life providing you do the services .
  21. OK thanks, another question, is the 16 number on the tyres what defines the wheel size? thanks
