  1. I have not noticed it at all on the ferodo premium, just how 'slight is it' & does it only occure when stopping,or, as in inner//central london we are using brakes on off very, very, very often, it's almost a permanent feature of driving in inner & central......is it loud enough to get people stareing?......a "slight grumble" does not sound to bad, but....better just like a normal ford escort or 1950's Morris Minor, quite ie no excess noise at all Anyone know why the LS400 is like this with after market pads.
  2. Ive had a lot of probs sourcing ferodo premium pads, has anyone tried Brembo pads & are they a quiet alternative?
  3. Has no one used ferodo premium? they are smack on from the outset and silent (LS400)
  4. Thanks gkkes, below is what grove garage says they do,the £569 I quote I gave is for things they do below, water pump, tensioners, pulleys etc and includes VAT. I just wondering if the serpantine belt was included in all that, probably not, I think I'll call them this next day or so & get a quote for that, it makes sense to change it with the timing belt & rollers etc stuff whilst they can get at it easy enough, I note the £295 you quoted for lexus guildford but I want rollers etc done as well, which is what the grove quote is for & not mentioned in your post. Grove wrote I have attached two estimates, one for just replacing the timing belt, the other if you also want to replace the pulleys, tensioners and water pump as this is driven by the timing belt.
  5. Nice work woodsi, it always good to have these refs if theyre ever needed, thanks
  6. What exactly do they do for that? I mean is it just the cambelt change & nothing else? its much nearer to me than brighton
  7. thanks steve, i did think that lexus would not let a faker get away with it 'if they knew', yes the old stock makes sense, i dont take to much notice of feeback on ebay, had some probs with them, ebay is not as reliable as it was 10 years ago, thanks
  8. Anyone know if these are genuine lexus pads from an 'official lexus store', I note on the description it says : "New: A brand-new, unused, unopened and undamaged item in original retail packaging (where packaging is applicable). If the item comes direct from a manufacturer, it may be delivered in non-retail packaging, such as a plain or unprinted box or plastic bag. See the seller's listing for full details." https://tinyurl.com/mv7jfbm
  9. Grove garage brighton, i was quoted 569 Dec last, they have a v good reputation on here
  10. Tell me something (Im no mechi) is the 'serpantine belt' the same thing as the fan belt? & when was that quote?
  11. Thats a good buy by the sound of it, the 400's seem to be getting very scarce these days..than say only 5 years ago
  12. Thats interesting, do you have any leads to the case so it could be used as ref, not that I have probs but did have to replace suspension arms (I think it was that) a couple of years back.
  13. It's lucky Den Donk that you're not a barrister or you'd have an empty bank account as well. Your right, & barristers are also lucky they aren't snake charmers or they would not have a pot to hiss in to publicise their charms, http://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-snake-man-charms-court-busker-denis-carthy-was-let-off-a-fine-on-monday-20358331.html
  14. I read it (extract below)........... Below is an article written by John Rowland, Silkolene/Fuchs .............& what to is glaringly obvious that the guy does not name one single brand, sound quite wealthy & liable could just about empty his bank account, which is why I said before "any tangible evidence" John Roland is heresay..........'dendonc' said in a statement
  15. Shanra The problem is the manufacturers can label an oil as fully synthetic when it really isn't, of course that depends on what you think fully synthetic oil is! Ester based or PAO based? which most are not. Shanra, I don't know if you are aware of the custodial penalties under the various criminal deception laws or you are not, but, make no mistake whatsoever if some (eg Asda, Shell, BP, Tesco etc etc) start deliberatly deceiving consumers by selling goods which are not what they say they are the fraud squad would hit them like a ton of bricks. I think you should, (today), immediatly take your tangible evidence of whoever is selling oil labeled & sold as synthetic when it is not synthetic and give to your local police force - take into account withholding the evidence you clearly imply you have is also a criminal offence, alternativley stop talking tosh about a multi billion pound national scam by a variety of retailers & manufacturers........hmm, Asda & Kray Ltd WIKI, SYNTHETIC OIL https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_oil
  16. The key is to read the full spec, not be prejudiced. The only full spec on asda 5-30 is "fully synthetic", do mean chemical ingredients or something along that line of thougjht?
  17. To recommend a certain garage etc is OK but anything more than that would be considered advertising. I would not name my west london indi online, but I do mention grove garage brighton sometimes as they are well known and mentioned on here
  18. Something else i remembered, lexus edgware rd will do a part exchange refurb if you exchange for a genuine lexus motor -
  19. My last oil was Asda's and the spec was absolutely top notch. Probably made by Comma oil. Yes I've used asda oil for quite a while now, had it & filter changed around 4 weeks ago
  20. I think Shell's R&D into engine oil is just guesswork. I don't think they know what any of the number and letter combinations mean, it only there to confuse folk. Well there is one thought chain which thinks/assumes that the supermarket branded oils are actually made by the normal major oil companies (shell BP etc) giving those companies mass supermarket outlets throughout UK as well as their comparitively small garage forcourt sales, it makes sound commercial sense, the supermarket buyers would feel more secure in maintaining their reputation than buying Joe Blogs Oil PLC.
  21. I have an indi in the chiswick area, been using him since late 1990's, I also am due to book into Grove Brighton for standard cambelt & rollers etc change as that sort of thing grove has the best reputation I have ever heard of. But, for starting probs, I would (I have) use my Chswick area indi, I will say this - if it is the starting motor itself thats the prob then its a big job, the motor is between the cab & the top (or maybe bottom) manifold and cannot be properly accessed to work on without taking the manifold off..........any idea if it is the starter motor or is the engine just turning over & the car not starting???
  22. Glad you mentioned that, shell helix has some bargain prices at the moment from £22:50 for 5 litres, I have not ordered but but it seems that 'might'? include delivery, not sure what the ultra means but at a guess it might mean it takes higher temps when driveing conrinuously at speed for long journeys.....pure guesswork though https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=opera&q=shell+helix+ultra+5w-30&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
