  1. Hey, thanks for the link! All these little things help! Will give mine a shake'n'vac!
  2. Well, if I could find a Ser 4 for £8700......with that mileage, I might shed my ser 3, ser 4 having Sat nav, plus (important) Traction control!! "Worth" is a relative term. After all, if you'd spent £50K on it in '98, you'd have lost £41K in 7 years! That's £6K per year!
  3. good to see another CITROEN fan in here! Was a CCC member for 25years until this year. Agree re SM too.But the LS400 Ser 3 is pretty good....me to.
  4. Well, if you're 24, I guess you have a Mother somewhere (NOT in London would be good!) so you can use that address. Nothing to stop you 'visiting' your address whenever your car gets done-in! Or, it's irrelevant as you'll be in an accident elsewhere (Tesco) so where it's parked wouldn't matter!Looking from here, I'm just glad I don't live ....or even VISIT!!! ...London! 12 mph average speed....'Congestion' charging.....pollution; crime/car jacking....Well, I guess SOMEONE has to live there!
  5. This info should be put somewhere easy to find! Who'd ever think of a leaking sun roof when seeing wet boot?!!! I shied off buying a good LS400 a few years ago cos of rust inside wheel-well, which was probably this too! :zee:
  6. " I got a Lexus now; don't get out much...." Randy Newman, on being middle aged! Who cares? It's nice to feel smug while the 'followers of fashion' think beemers are 'it'!
  7. WoW!!! What bad luck! But as they say, you have to be down to appreciate 'up'? So life can only get better. There are two themes here I notice. One is....don't live in London (he said smugly in laid back Bristol!) and the other? Well, BOTH the guys on this link who got car jacked have VERY sexy ladies as their 'logos'....so SOMETHING must be comforting them in their lives!!!
  8. Hooray! At lasat I'm not alone here! As a 20+ years Citroen Car Club member.....(now expired) I share your background. Welcome to the smooth world of the LS400. I have taken mine to Rallies too (Citroen DS ones!). Loved the DSs but (drove one 3 weeks ago) they're soooonoisy and clangy. But I still love the styling. Wish I could fit a DS body on an LS400!
  9. Has anyone used/had experience of using Solar trickle chargers to keep their batteries topped up? My Ser 3 LS400 goes dead over about two weeks, if unused, so I'm about to investigate a solution (assuming no fault is in progress!) I don't THINK I can run one (Charger) directly into the/any of the/ cigarette lighters in the car as they need to be 'live' with ignition off to accept a charge, so it looks like a direct line to battery; MORE fiddling about with wires! Any input gratefully received!.
  10. :) WOW!!! I've spent the last 45 of my 58 years being a music fan and Hi-Fi 'buff' so; I must have heard mega-thousands of songs! At school with the Beatles: hung out with stars in sixties.....then Bristol selling food to Massive Attack..... SO.... MY favourite song is 'O gente da minha terra' by Mariza. Sends chills down the spine; the words are deep/human/yearning; great stuff. Closely followed by Milton Nascimento ; 'Cancoes e momentos', which is apt for this whole 'Song' concept as the words say 'There are songs and there are moments I don't know how to explain how the voice is like an instrument that cannot be controlled it goes on through infinity, it binds us all in one single emotion all the audience and the voice. There are songs and there are moments when the voice comes from deep within and I don't know if it's from sadness or when I'm full 0of joy. I just know that there are moments that create a union with a song the making of this marriage is what I live for'[/ Heard him sing this live in Barcelona and tears welled up in my eyes, (even though I didn't understand Portuguese then!!) Oh!?? You want something in ENGLISH??? Oh well. John Hiatt. 'Mile high' (extra track on 'Walk on'.) ( 'You are my Mile high') In constant thanks to my wonderful companion Carole, who has blessed my life these many years with contentment.
  11. Well, if I recall, the BHP was higher; AND 4 extra cylinders......to go wrong! My 850 experience was one of fixing the damn thing every few weeks! 27 sensors! Started telling me the gear shift (electric!) wasn't operating --in a traffic jam on M4; it reverts to 4th gear then. Pictures of engine burn out, trying to idle along in FOURTH! Until I realised it WAS changing! Just sensors ++++d up! Then....etc..Sold it at great loss, trading for my LS 400. Still costs a bit to maintain (at Lexus!) but, sooooo much more relaxing. And who needs ULTIMATE speed anyway? This is crowded UK!.
  12. Wow!! A ser 3 with a Radio screen that you can READ! Must be a first!. Good luck on your other issues! (Strange; I've had my battery out a couple of times, without any loss!)
  13. Definitely go for a Series Three (No separate Spots at front-M/N/P reg) They are better in many ways than the 2. Sad to say that others views on price is true! You CAN get them for under 5K! But don't forget they are STILL a £50K car, when you need to service them! I'm in Bristol too. If you see M54RKL Grey..jump up and down (and I'll accelerate away!!)
  14. What a coincidence! One of my middle names isn't Jellybean! But Skelton? You must be suave and sophisticated ( and totally self deluded like wot I is?) But...£1800 for a Radio? Surely you could get a whole new De Luxe Stereo (Levinson?) for that? My hobby is Hi-Fi, and I could put you a damn fine system (domestic) for £1800!! My LS400 stereo Screen is pretty knacked, too, but even £180 I'd think about. After all, I just stick in the CDs and press 'CD'. Radio isn't too brilliant, reception OR content! Middle name Fraser!
  15. O.K Let's go on a more aesthetic road? CITROEN!!! AK400 Van (2CV, 425 cc!) Rolled it while retrieving Orange juice at 10 miles per hour!. Dyane. Flat to floor and change gear, 30 degree lean in corners. But, on VERY snowy day on M4, was trundling past abandoned Saabs, etc! Dyane.again. Also DS23 in parallel. STILL my favourite car to look at, and still a great ride (I shall find out after 18 years, this weekend, when I'm borrowing one to drive an old/dear friend to her wedding!!) If they'd put a flat six in it (as planned) it would STILL be in my garage! Several more DSs. inc.Safari. Also a Traction (Big 15) Commerciale. Toured Spain in this in 1984, to everyone in Spain's great amusement! GSA Estate. Great car, flat four, great ride, cruise at 90..... Several more. CX GTi. Lovely motor. Then CX Turbo 2 Auto. They never MADE a Turbo Auto; mine was a hybrid. Drove like a turbine. But...was out accelerated by a Mondeo once! Life catches up. (At least I LIKED the CX! A Mundano? No thanks!!) Then I had a Jeep Cherokee for 7 years. Like a powerful Armchair. Too pricy to service. On to a BMW 850! (you have to have owned a V-12 once in your life?Cost FAR too much to keep going and lost value faster than the Zimbawean dollar! So here we are; the Series 3 LS400. Great to drive. Comfort, power, silence.Quality. (Just wish it looked like a DS, or a CX!) And why no traction control?
  16. Yes, stick with Dunlops. The car was built to use them. You've got the quietest car known to mankind. Tune in the CD player and glide!
  17. Of course it's all right to drop down a gear or two. They're just GEARS, like a manual! And, YES, the LS400 WILL get to about 85 in second....there's a lovely long stretch of no-junctions/cameras/sideturnings on my way home where you COULD test this out, if you wanted to do so! My BMW 850 got to 110 mph here...and, guess what??? So can an LS! (NO!! NOT in 2nd!, but with 'Power' biutton on and foot flat! Freaks the Beemers out!
  18. Well to disagree! I've got the e-bay 'Chrome' stuff fitted to my Ser 3 LS400 and it looks great. You have to be very accurate fitting the stuff, but it makes the car look much more 'together' somehow, all chrome fittings. Was happy with the service, and, IF I knew how, I'd post a picture or two. e-mail me on Roycerolls@madasafish.com and I'll send a pic or two? Chris in Bristol.
  19. Well, guys. Back street fixers/computer whizz people may be able to get around it all? Watch out for 'boxes' on e-bay? Or, if you have an older car, just invest in James Bond style revolving plates to be photographed in?(oh, and a James Bond mask to drive in?) Address supplied but witheld by request......Zorro! Who wrote that name on here? Who he?
  20. It's more down to where you live i think. I've just got fully comp for my wife and i on my LS400 for £480 with Admiral. Neither of us had any no claims as we've been overseas for 5 years. I'm 32 and my wife is 26, but we live in South Derbyshire. Can you register a car at someone elses house? (eg. family member in the country) not sure if thats legal but the wife got a BIG rebate when she changed addresses from Blacon, Cheshire to Swadlincote, Derbyshire. Just move ← Ah but that's because Swadlincote is supposed to be HEAVEN on earth (But SHHHH!! don't tell everyone.
  21. Well, to be pedantic....the original 'magic carpet ride' was, of course, the wonderful Citroen DS series, and, even today, this 30-40 year old car will amaze you with its smoothness But. to return to the point. I also wanted to get a reliable and long lived car, which is why I got my low mileage Series 3. It's proved perfect in all aspects. (Apart from negotiating narrow city streets with whizz-around hatches assaulting your 'space'!). MPG is good for such a size (anyway, it's a 4 litre luxury car!! What did you expect?) It is so nice to drive, great to be a passenger in-my lissome partner tells me!- and...well, just very satisfying to own. Ironically, I may now be selling it as I should be off to Spain to live, needing an LHD. Perhaps I'll get another Citroen DS......? Chris Skelton.
  22. NO!! It DOESN'T! I have a Series 3. NO traction control. But never drive carelessly, but once...you CAN slide it as there's SOOOOmuch power at the wheels. But I bought it to cruise. Series 4 wasn't in my budget range at the time. It's nicely balanced though, once you get acclimatised to how it feels. (Don't over correct; the power steering is quite direct!)
  23. WHAAAAAT? A sentence with 'why watch...and Joanna Lumley in it???? Are you blind/assexual or have no blood left in veins? Wonderful woman!
  24. You've goto admit though, those tiny small plates on bike do look the business, if I must say so my self Especially the one i had.......it flipped up into the bodywork. :P ....of course, that's the answer to speed cameras, (AND one they deserve!?); have revolving plates!!! I already suggested this on a 'speeding' link here.... Take it one malicious step further? Get the local police chief/mayors number....you get the idea? Just make sure you see the cops well in advance, before you press 'reveal' or whatever...or we may never see you again?
